My favorite aspect of Rakdos is that he forces roleplay among players. As far as enormously powerful demons go, Rakdos is much easier to deal with than most. The #1 rule in the Cult of Rakdos is "Rakdos = #1". Whatever else you might value becomes irrelevant when a colossally powerful 10,000 year-old Demon who embodies hedonism and has an ego rivalled only by Niv-Mizzet is around. This is the worst part about Rakdos but also the best part. If you play to that ego, or that sense of hedonism, Rakdos does not care who you are; if he likes it, he acts on it. The key to surviving an encounter with Rakdos is to make sure it does not become a combat encounter. You do not stand a chance against the Showstopper Lord of Riots and no one in Ravnica has the nerve or necessary backup to try and arrest him. Here's the thing though, Rakdos is the devil (or rather, demon) you know. Part of the reason the Cult has survived over 10,000 years is because the laws and structure of Ravnica have established a role for this collection of madness and violence. The Cult of Rakdos will accept anyone, regardless of race, background, or depravity. And it gives them a place to direct all that mad energy in the form of their shows. All the freaks and psychos have a place to call home, and the only rule they have to follow is to remember who runs the show. Furthermore, Rakdos is the first & only necessary line of defense against demonic incursions. Rakdos does not share the spotlight with any demon or devil. Any enterprising infernal threats get a personal place in the Jester's Crypt, where Rakdos himself tortures them. Best of all, Rakdos is prone to napping in his lava pit for months or even years at a time, meaning players can get breathers from having to appease him. My players actually convinced him to save Selesnya from burning because all of Ravnica would be watching. He created a fire break by flying along the wall and destroying it with fiery explosions; posing with each flight. They have appeased him twice, but are in no hurry for another encounter.
And I just so happen to just start playing as a Rakdos player last night. Gonna have to say, never been a chaotic player before, but I certainly love the freedom of crazy expression heh.
Rakdos best guild. I remember reading something in an old philosophy book that said: "The meaning of life is to seek pleasure and avoid the lack of it." I would have remembered the name of the person who wrote it if I haven't used the paper to roll a fat joint.
Best guild got a spotlight!!!!! And if you don't agree with me, I would reccomend that you see one of our shows. They're a "spectecle" to be a part of!
@@TheGoblinoid Don't hate it until you have some fun at one of our street performances. I have heard that Azorious make for wonderful straight men for our routines!
@@TheGoblinoid don't worry. The Azorious are our favourite people to insult and torture. They scream the hardest. (If you don't count the Selesnyan dryads when we pour oil over them and make them dance with devils.
The Cult Of Rakdos is interesting to roleplay I imagine. They are the beautiful lone bard singing lovely songs at an inn, but they are also the fanatical mob embracing madness for a night of spectacle pleasure and mayhem. Stranger still, is that even after a night of murder and madness, many citizens would probably have strong differing opinions about the guild, many saying it's a cancer while others saying it's the only real source of escapism and pleasure from the otherwise overwhelming stress of living in Ravnica.
My fighter/sorc Planeswalker just joined the cult after nearly dying to a zombie troll/devil team up by subtle spell major imaging Rakdos on his throne saying "I like that Planeswalker, make sure he joins us!" And having the Ring Leader ogre jump in and join the fight. Was great.
My characters have been 99% Good, alignment-wise, yet the Cult of Rakdos fascinates me more than any other guild on Ravnica. I'd love the opportunity to play a Chaotic Neutral Cult of Rakdos guild-member!
Close. Murder hobos who were a part of a giant circus which got closed due to high amount of torture, sex on stage, torture, murder, torture, orgy on stage, torture, blood, torture, sadism, torture, animal cruelty, torture, human cruelty, torture, demon cruelty, cruel animals, cruel humans, cruel demons, torture etc.
Thought about building a viashino rogue assassin who works with the rakdos cult as knife thrower who's out for blood over the death of someone he loved. Not sure how that'll pan out
I'm doing a tiefling rogue( chaotic good) who was basic tortured due to his tiefling nature as he was born from two regular guild members (I think simic fits best) and becomes disheveled because no guild will help him until he passes by the rakdos who merely look at him like wow you look interesting got any tricks you can do. And eventually embraces that laws can't help anyone only people's freedom to do what's best after they help him escape.
Shayne Rawls I love what Jeremy did with alternate circus ideas, I'm picturing a torture madhouse circus focused around simic seaworld with sharktanks and pufferfish jugglers 😈🐡
