My wife keeps asking why Im always watching that white guy in the dark. So I told her "That's Mike, and he loves us". So now she's worried I've joined a cult.
“You play a lot of philosophical games and you come out with Stockholm syndrome thinking you had a great time.” This should be made into a door plaque.
Facts ... makes it more special to us ... Idk if Mike is aware but I absolutely wait for the "Bc I love ya" at the end and feel ripped off when he don't (like when I forgot I was watching an older vid 🤣😂)
“It is of no concern to me how accurate, or inaccurate my perceptions are, and therefore, I am always right.” Dude just needed Twitter this whole time!
Also check out Disturban. He’s an amazing narrator, always very compassionate toward the victims and his narration style is soothing and calming. He articulates very well and tells the stories in an interesting way. He also covers cases, that many other crime youtubers don’t cover. He’s great. 🙂👍
Tf? I must disagree with you there buddy. I tell my little brother that I love him 20 times a day and I tell him weekly how great of a kid he is. He is the most gentle, kind and loving boy. Not sure where ur getting ur info from but ur wrong. And when I have my own kids, I will also tell them how Perfect they are.
@@anak6940 telling him he's a great kid is different than calling him perfect and acting as though he can do no wrong and every parent should tell their kids they love them. Surprised to hear a sibling would say that though since my older sister was always mean to me, but it's a good thing you do.
This really is the way. Same reason why kids in the US grow up to be young adults right out of college and expect a job. When you remove competition and give everyone a medal, tell them they're all amazing their whole life, they're not prepared for the real world. And in the worst case scenarios, they do insane things like what Taylor did in this video because they've never felt what striving to better and struggling to get to that point in anything is. You know, I'd argue it's actually worse to constantly tell kids how perfect they are than telling them they're stupid now that I think about it. Not saying either should be done, but you get the point.
You don't know how many people you tell 'I love you' to who have never heard those words before. You don't know how many possible suicides you prevent. Thanks for doing it.
Thank you Mike for exposing some of the truths of the Mormon Church. There’s soo many facts that members choose to ignore. Living in Salt Lake City and being non-LDS,having read the Book of Mormon and doing a lot of research makes me feel sad. Sad that these folks believe everything they are told without doing the research.
It always hits me hard when old couples who are happy and been together so long and finally getting to enjoy their last years and the saying "growing old together and die together" , but instead ends up brutally murdered.... They were so close. I feel so sorry for them and every old couple who ends up murdered. Old people gives me a very sensitive feeling like they are vulnerable and I want to protect them, just like children almost. I cant imagine how horrible you have to be to be able to stomach hurting old people.
But they did die together. Neither one had to live for years without the other. We all die, and it's usually a mystery and prolonged. I envy them, they died quickly, and brutally means very quickly for old people. Their deaths at that age are only hard on the living. Death is not bad, it gives value to life. They must have realized at some moment they would go together and I can only hope they shared that moment of eternal bliss.
Mormons are pretty well known for believing themselves to be prophets. Or at best, they certainly have no problem following the delusional ramblings of a guy who declared himself a prophet. If you can follow one, you can probably follow others. This is probably where that comes from.
Just adding my most sincere congratulations to Mike on the success of That Chapter. I’ve been a subscriber for a long time and I’ve seen (I think) all his videos. Mike was always good, but lately he has jumped up to the next level and is now really hitting his stride to join the upper echelon of true crime presenters. Mike, you deserve all your success and I join your large and continuously growing fan base in wishing you all the best. Sending you all good vibes from deep in the heart of crazy Texas 🏵💐🏵
@@tiredofit1968 j disagree, this was full on generic issues/ disorders pushed by his own familial growth and the rest of those "parental figures" pushing his already screwed up mind to get where he was. No wm excuse on his side but he was doomed from the beginning. Just in my opinion
I also disagree, schizophrenic voices are typically angry and full of rage trying to get the person to do harm, to themselves or others, destroying their self-esteem and self-worth in the process. Paranoia is quite common too. I think he was just hearing his parents voices echo off his hollow brain pan. You would never find a true schizophrenic who feels good about himself.
@@aaronpolselli3691 he may have been genetically predisposed to being messed up and his family didn't help. but anyone that can beat teeth out of a human head is just crazy and soulless. he wasn't abused that could turn him that way. he had a diseased mind. he couldn't have been rehabilitated. people that are that violent and have no conscience do not recover empathy.
Holy crap, how the hell have I never heard of this before? This all literally happened in my hometown and I went to the same high school as these guys.
Great job! May I suggest doing a story on one of the many missing cases of indigenous American woman? It’s secretly an epidemic that isn’t talked about. Love your channel! Would love to see you do a story on this? Not many content creators touch on this.
as a woman that is enrolled with the Navajo Nation.Thank you for thinking about indigenous people. older generations just think we should only exist in textbooks or be all dressed up in regalia like we do at Pow Wow's.
“See when he was down there, he was spreading the word, and the word is the bird, and people began to flock to him” Mike 5:11 is the my favourite that chapter verse What a way with words you have Mike keep it up brotha
JUST to be pedantic, Elvin BIshop's biggest hit is "Fooled Around and Fell in Love." He also wrote and performed "Mississippi Queen" which is a really rockin' number, and did an epic guitar solo for "Twin Peaks." That's just a miniscule smidgen of his discography btw. Me was a member of the group Mountain that did quite a few hard guitar rockers.
Sat watching this video on my own. Minding my own business.... and then out of nowhere you hit me with the bird is the word and out loud I said wow what a low blow 🤣 why do you hate me so much 🤣🤣 what did we ever do to deserve having this song stuck in our heads for the next ten years after we JUST got it out of our heads 🤣🤣🤣🤣 If Im sat watching your next video and I get rick rolled im starting a mutiny 🤣🤣 love the videos keep up the great content ^-^
I was browsing another channel recently and came across a “poll”. Come to find out I’m not the only one that finds That Chapter an exceptional channel, as well as my favorite. It was heartwarming to see all the great comments about Mike on someone else’s channel. To me it speaks volumes about him and how incredibly talented he is. Keep up the great work Mike! “We love ya”
“Fooled Around and Fell in Love” is a fu*king classic that doesn’t get as much play as it should on classic rock stations. I think I’m going to put it on right after That Chapter
The singer is Mickey Thomas of Starship fame: "We Built This City on Rock and Roll." Blew my mind when I found that out.... But I first heard "Fooled Around..." in high school, and have loved it ever since. Elvin Bishop is Southern Rock royalty.
If a pair of Mormon missionaries had ever knocked on my door and told me “bird is the word” I may have given them the time of day hahaha. Good one Mike!
Hey Mike! Thank you for always putting out such great content! I really appreciate the way that you honor the victims in such a respectful way that isn't tacky or in poor taste! You are truly a gifted storyteller! Keep up the great work! ❤️
@@ThatChapter how could you even assume we're not all subscribed already 😅 checking nervously for a new video every Tuesday and Friday 🤣 love you Mike, great job, keep it up 👍
Hey Mike, I owe you a big THANK YOU. I discovered 'That Chapter' back in March of 2021... Not only did your sense of humor, overall stellar and unique narrations get me through a 9 day hospital stay, I've officially added "SHITE" to my daily lexicon!😅Keep giving it a goo and again, thanks! Sincerely, Mikey --- from Cincinnati Ohio... ( yup, OHIO,one of your favorite places on earth...)
Hahaha, I've been using ' shite ' since I saw Trainspotting!!! Been one of my faves, along with ' bollocks' ! Ppl ask me where the f am I from lol ( I'm actually from Australia, but I'm half German & half Canadian) 😅 😄 😂 I'm a human rubix cube 😝
Imagine being the correction officer who saw this prisoner with pens in his eyes, blood gushing down his face and this chaotic situation. Then the officer's shift ends and he goes home. How do you brush that off as just another day at work as you are laying in bed before falling asleep?
I honestly love your channel, it gets me through my work day. I listen to you in between calls or doing things around the house. You truly feel like a good friend telling some awesome stories.
Was having a shit Tuesday...then I got online and remembered "it's TC TUESDAY." Once again, my day has vastly improved thanks to 22 minutes of fantastic storytelling.
Also having a shit day. Just took out my contacts and put my glasses back on because they were dry from crying. I hope we both have a better end of our day!
@@bowtiejess80 I remember that, not being able to wear contact lenses because of swollen cry eyes. There's always a shift in mood/circumstance and you'll be grand. Bathe your eyes, and put something cool on them.☘
Thank you everyone for the support and kind words, we're ALL going to have a better day tomorrow because we are all f'n awesome!!! I feel like we're all lifting each other up and that's a beautiful thing.
Mike I just want you to know, that although your videos are such a dark subject matter, it is YOU, your unique personality & humor, that somehow make me feel good watching. I don't believe I'm alone in stating that you've brought me back from the absolute brink of depression & anxiety. You are a gift to this world. I love ya right back! 💜 Heidi
Me 3. Who would think that some of the darkest material could help people like us feel a little better? For me personally, it was hearing these poor people's stories, and being grateful, that even though I was down - I wasn't out yet, and had plenty to get out of bed for. And Mike was like a gentle father, with his " I love ya's" on the end.
That was a lot to pack into 1 That Chapter - Well done! Also, I love what you do because I love how you do it. Your delivery is always on point, and your sincerity always shines through. So, thank you.
I love your comment and completely agree with you! Regardless of it all, even though Mike enhances the story with his amazing and brilliant 'wit' he also is truly forthright and very sensitive towards the respect of those who've tragically suffered within his true stories, he is an incredible host and investigative journalist! I'm the one who constantly writes, "Crushing on Mike yet Again." My husband knows, there is something so truly unique about Mike and he seems to be such an awesome person and very 'cute' I might add.
I'd never heard of this one, and as far as bizarro-world cults go, this one took the cake home as a prize. Wow. The killings were horrific and tragic. Those poor people. Thanks, Mike, for sharing this. We love you back. Hugs
I find cult’s fascinating, Jonestown, Heavens Gate, Waco etc. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of The Children of Thunder. Great job Mike. Another fantastic video.
I've studied cults for many years. I've even written books on hyperreligiosity, grandiosity and hallucinations in religious practice from a psychiatric and spiritual perspective. I do believe in Divine experience but a lot of stuff is just mental illness. The interesting thing is how the 60s generation got duped by these Eastern gurus. If you look into them about 90% of them were very materialistic and abusive.
@@magmasunburst9331 TBH, it makes sense. If you're a psychopath with no morals, religion pretty much makes an ideal cudgel to wield. You can use it to dupe a lot of people into doing damn near anything.
I really appreciate all your hard work, Mike! This one was wild! I follow a lot of true crime channels, but you always find the most insane cases, that I've never heard of! Thank you!
Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" was truly a huge hit back in 1975. It was often played on mainstream radio stations for years and years after it had originally come out.
This song was a huge hit for Bishop and it propelled singer Mickey Thomas to stardom. I saw Elvin Bishop and his band perform it in '76 at Disney World of all places . The vocals of Thomas outdid Bishop's guitar playing, which was really good. I saw Thomas some years later singing with Grace Slick in the band Starship. Btw I was not a fan of the band and only attended the concert to hear Grace Slick sing Somebody to Love and White Rabbit.
Damn, another old person! I'll be 60 in Oct. But heck yeah the 60's and the 70's and even some of the 80's music was magical. I loved the music of the 60 & 70's the best.
I know right. Mike's presentation is always so on point and so entertaining. He's absolutely the best True Crime RU-vidr. Also just love how he says three... one-two-tree, ha.
"He was told since he was a baba that he was hot shit, he was just shit" that last hilarious comment from Mike beautifully summed up the insanity that is this case. On a side note, can it be called a cult with just two followers one of which is a sibling 🤔 I feel it would be too nice to call it even a gang 😅
Wow, 63K views in an hour.. Says a lot about Mike’s storytelling prowess. We can always count on him to give us an excellent balance of information, entertainment and a sprinkling of snark. Cheers mate.
Yes, Elvin Bishop is worth a listen, kids. And a fun one to research as far as his contributions to sixties rock and beyond. He's still at it, keeping his head up and moving forward. His recent work is also pretty timely. Thanks for the whole story, Mike. I remember the headlines, but it was so horrible that I didn't follow up.
Did anyone else think that photo at 10:10 was a little umm...confusing? Something has changed with this telling...you've upped it up a notch. Doing a great job, Mike. That Chapter, and True Crime Loser are my personal must-subs. Take care and thanks for all you do!
I saw Jesus making an orange juice and kale smoothie in my kitchen. What was odd was my Nutribullet had been broken. After JC left it worked fine. A miracle! On the minus side my fridge was *packed* with fish. I like fish, but not for every meal.
What a heartbreaking story! First an elderly couple living their best life, then a sweet woman, and THEN HER MOTHER? Oh. My. God. I just. Maybe I wasn't prepared for this, today. But holy hell this is the cursed-gift that kept giving and I'm jamming my foot on a brake that never existed.
I've recommended your unique channel to about a dozen of my friends. All have thanked me; not one was disappointed. Thankyou, my friend. Your episodes are an integral part of my week.
All this time, I thought it was pages of gold metal with writing only one guy could read, who couldn’t read normal writing. Another illusion shattered!
When I was a freshmen in high school I did an "Impact" program with a friends local church. I was so proud of the shirt they gave me cause I liked the shade of blue it was. The program was fine overall and I did have fun hanging out with others my age. That was 20 years ago and this is the first time I have heard anyone mention it since.
When they killed Selena, they held her head over the bathtub while she was still alive and said "spirit says you get to watch" and slit her throat as she watched herself bleed out..can you imagine?! But Damn I can't believe you finally covered this story! I’ve been trying to get it covered. Awesome job man, thank you
"I could start with the shooting . . . I could start with the police being called to such and such . . . " That's really good writing, man! It hits me just now the writing here is fantastic throughout.
This is extremely reckless youtubing. Don't come crying to me if some time in the near future you happen to pre-emptively hit 'like' on one of his uploads, but then subsequently decide that, on reflection, the video in question was not entirely to your liking. I will not be there to mop up your tears.
As someone who converted and then left the LDS faith, their weird way of seeing the world almost invites this kind of thinking. If you can believe Joseph Smith Translated the Book of Mormon off of gold plates, you can believe anything.
@Rita Jo You're right. Having lived in Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, and animist cultures, I have seen a lot of magical thinking. It seems to be part of the human condition, perhaps showing how disempowered we feel as a species.
Haha it's always some cultists or another. A lot of Mormons are sweet, but it's still 1800s scientology, American exceptionalism as a religion, really goofy stuff. Had a lot of offshoots that were pure apocalyptic insane oppressive fringe groups too
I just looked it up, it’s CRAZY that Chad’s kids are still convinced he’s innocent when he quite literally murdered his own wife for the same reason Lori killed her kids??
