the cumulative 4 minutes they let Christine Chapel have a personality 

She's the only character from SNW I like very much. Very beautiful and funny and true to the original one.

I love their whole way of modernizing the 60s characters into more modern ones while still staying true to them. I also don’t believe it’s untrue to Roddenberry: he had modern ideas for his age, so I don’t think we should turn back and insert 60s values into today’s Star Trek. That would actually deny the values of Star Trek. One thing for example that I love is how much more on par with each other Chapel and Spock are depicted now, and Uhura’s extended personality.

Honestly I felt a little uncomfortable the new one was trying to be "too cool" also. "I'M GONNA MESS WITH YER GENES, DUDE!" In particular, that first Uhura focused episode had Uhura, Chapel, and the pilot all gallivanting around with their accursed YOUTH - plus the transporter chief is just a kid too! So I came here to compare to the original. Turns out, all my concerns are assuaged - very similar snark levels after all haha. Just updating the style to 2020s from 1960s, pretty nice job.

That short interaction between M'benga and Chapel in this feels like it could have happened in SNW. They're doing a good job modernizing and expanding these characters

I really like how Jess Bush has been able to build on it. So much, too, especially her relationship with Spock, now looks very different.

I just watched Plato episode yesterday on Netflix, she really did a great job.

See this is where I get unsure how much SNW is supposed to be a reimagining vs a prequel. If Chapel and Spock got together in SNW, wouldn't the vibes in TOS about some unrequited thing not really make sense anymore? Same issue with T'Pring.

Nope. She was clingy as sh*t. No self esteem. If a man liked stalkers.. She's perfect. Even Marjel hated the way the character was written.

@@rashida7777 And Majel was right; with a very few exceptions (as seen in this video) her character was badly under-utilized and badly written. But the few scenes we see here show that she had a much better personality than most writers gave her ... they spent way too much time with her mooning after Spock.

Darth Serpentress: Yep, same here. :) I always hoped they would end up together, because we see here that there was a lot more to her than most of the episodes' writers gave Majel to work with.

@@Hodaris_Darlin The phrase...from Bones...you never give up hoping. She was indeed pathetic. When a man doesn't want you...leave off. If Spock said drop your drawers and show your goodies in a Jeffries tube and vid it for the entire ship. She would do it. A desperate woman is undesirable.

She, and Nichelle, were my lust babes. Starfleet uniforms fit purrfectly on them.

Lwaxana Troi was a much better character than Nurse Chapel who spent most of her appearances standing behind McCoy.

They hate her because of her love for Spock. It's jealousy. When The Naked Time was first broadcast they received mail whining about how she touched his hands & face & kissed his hands. They accused her of "molesting" him (which is absurd), yet at the same time they ship him with Kirk. 🙄

@@mnirwin5112 I even saw someone on tumblr saying she was "slobbering" all over him. 🙄 For the record I love Spock & Christine together. She loved him for WHO he was, NOT WHAT he was & didn't expect him to be somebody he wasn't just for her sake, like so many of his other love interests. I've also read that Gene Roddenberry wanted to marry them off, but because of the backlash he didn't; although I believe if there had been another couple of seasons he might have anyway.

You missed the point of the video - while Nurse Chapel did have a fair bit of screen time, she was horrendously under-served by the writers on Star Trek. To be fair, as was anybody not called Kirk, Spock or McCoy.

For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky. McCoy is terminally ill in it & Christine is upset believing he's going to keep it to himself, so she calls Kirk to sickbay to make sure McCoy tells him.
