My List: 14 - The Cure (2004) 13 - 4:13 Dream 12 - Japanese Whispers 11 - Wild Mood Swings 10 - Three Immaginary Boys/Boys Dont Cry 09 - The Top 08 - Bloodflowers 07 - Seventeen Seconds 06 - Wish 05 - Faith 04 - The Head On the Door 03 - Kiss Me X3 02 - Pornography 01 - Disintegration
Started listening to them like 2/3 months ago, so I didn't listen to everything, nor enough to some of the albums, but this would be my list: 7. The Head On The Door 6. Seventeen Seconds 5. Faith 4. Kiss Me, Kiss me, Kiss me *Huge gap* 3. Disintegration 2. Pornography (Trilogy live) 1. Bloodflowers (Trilogy live) Really love them a lot, top 3 favorite band ever, fr.
Dang cant follow you all on Pornography being that high up. As a kid in the 80s it scared the heck outta me. Its way too dark and ominous. We did that the tape out from the cassette & flipped it so it plays reverse and that beginning parr of the song Pornography is just a BBC news presenter reading the news. That said Yes Disintegration is 1 fo reals
As I scroll down the comment section and see such a huge variety of different combinations of worst to bests, I have to say, I'm so proud of my fellow Cure fans! It's a testament to how diverse in styles the Cure's music has been through the ages (and man, has it been AGES now!). Everyone likes the Cure for different reasons. Different eras, different sounds appeal to different people - but all of it is good, and there's someting for everyone, I believe! Were it me, Seventeen Seconds would've been in my top 3 for sure, but so would Wish and Boys Don't Cry have been! Just goes to show you - the Cure has so much to offer for anyone who'd open up to listening to them! :)
You need to do an updated version with Joe and Ryan. I’m sure Joe would be thrilled. By the way, I’ve been a fan of your channel since you were solo. Keep up the good work.
Blue 💙 Sunshine 🌞 By The Glove was originally meant to be all Robert on vocals but Polygram said no. The Deluxe 💿 has Robert singing on all tracks on the bonus disc.
Appreciate your work here. The Cure were my dream band from the mid-eighties to nineteen-ninety. Their quirky pop phase really came out of left field, and caught everyone by surprise. Although I was familiar with stuff like "Let's Go To Bed," "Lovecats," and "The Walk", I just thought they were like some of the odd MTV video based bands at the time, which actually isn't a bad thing. I would've never thought from the look of them that they were as extremely accomplished the musicians they turned-out to be. "Disintegration" is really the last album of theirs for me. I had hoped for something more like "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" so I didn't welcome it immediately. I was like 'why are they going back to sounding like this now?' Also, who else remembers Robert Smith saying it was their last album and the resulting tour their last one?
4:13 is a banging record, please change my mind in the replies. The opener is my favourite cure song ever. All the songs he listed with the addition of the hungry ghost are absolute tunes.
one of my very favorite bands of all time!!! you're not afraid to buck the conventional wisdom, which makes your lists very interesting to watch...not sure i'd put Head On The Door at #1, but it's certainly in my top 3 cure albums...hope you can re-review with Ryan & Joe in the near future
My Top 5 is a bit different. Obviously, Disintegration 1, Bloodflowers 2 Wild Mood Swings 3 Pornography 4 Wish 5. Gathering from other people Bloodflowers is Marmite. I still today believe that Wild Mood Swings is vastly underrated, side 1 is a masterpiece where side 2 is very average. If side 2 was as good as side 1 it would be my favorite.
Wild Mood Swings is one of my absolute favorites, never knew until post 2000 that a number of fans had disdain for it, never understood why, some fantastic songs here.
Interesting rating. My top 4 are 1) Three Imaginary Boys 2) The Head On The Door 3) Seventeen Seconds 4) Kiss Me X3. "The Top" comes in at 6 or 7. Maybe the most influential British band behind The Beatles. So many bands wouldn't sound like they do without them.
Thanks for the vid sir. It's been four years and I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say we're awaiting a new, longer, more cohesive, in depth and up to date version of this video with you Joe and Ryan. Because lets face it. The Cure's not releasing a new album anytime soon lol. Make it happen please.
He just wants things to sound like a fucking K-tel compilation album, with no continuity in sound throughout. Not exactly what you look for in The Cure.
13 - Pornography 12 - Faith 11 - Seventeen Seconds 10 - The Cure 09 - The Top 08 - 4:13 Dream 07 - Wild Mood Swings 06 - Japanese Whispers 05 - Three Imaginary Boys 04 - Wish 03 - Kiss Me 02 - Disintegration 01 - The Head On the Door Listened to 17, Faith & and Pornography endlessly in the early eighties but as a mature adult they are now resigned to my bottom three... the Cure are my second favorite band of all time behind the Beatles, I like all the albums..
13. 4:13 Dream 12. Wild Mood Swings 11. The Cure 10. Three Imaginary Boys 9. The Top 8. Wish 7. Seventeen Seconds 6. Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me 5. Bloodflowers 4. Faith 3. The Head On The Door 2. Pornography 1. Disintegration
Mine would probably be: Self-titled, Blood Flowers, Wild Mood swings, 4:13 dream now here’s where it gets hard because I love all of them, Japanese Whispers, Boys don’t cry, The Top, Wish, Kiss me kiss me kiss me, Pornography, Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Head on the door and Disintegration.
you guys have much more music listening experience than me and I have much to catch up on, starting with this band. Have loved their singles album for quite a few years but am starting to notice they are very different as an albums band, will see...
My top 6? 😳 #6 The Top #5 The Cure #4 Disintegration #3 17 Seconds #2 Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me #1 Wish (We both have the top at #6😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳) btw I also love 4:13 Dream!!!!
@Listography: What exactly are your thoughts on Japanese Whispers/The Walk EP? The extended version of Just One Kiss is a must-have for any self-respecting Cure-head.
Not really a fan of Mixed Up. Its interesting to listen to once, but I don't think any of the songs really benefit from the treatments they're given. Thanks for watching!
My BIG 5️⃣ 1. Disintegration 2. The Cure 3. Pornography 4. Seventeen Seconds 5. Head on the Door And then... 6. The Top 7. Bloodflowers 8. Faith 9. Kiss Me 💋 10. Wish 11. Three Imaginary Boys Haven't listened to the others yet
1st, to Jason of 2022: this is a GOOD LOOK here, bro you gotta trade in the bowl cut for this do you have here! lookin sharp! Real nice, Clark!👌🏻 As a fan since 1985 I def think those mid 3 albums are best in rev order w Disintegration, Kiss Me Cubed & HOTD. In college when Wish came out we were VERY disappointed. Fell so short of standard they created. I couldnt go any higher than 8. Their B Sides off their singles from this album are fantastic "The Big Hand" is brilliant and my sister played "Halo" at her wedding ceremony & I had it at my reception! If you dont know it check it out! in 1990 when I finally got a CD player the 1st 3 CDs bought were Disintegration, Standing on Beach (the Singles compilation) & The Top. Still think Disintegration is about the GOAT for albums. Early early era Simon Gallup inspired me to take up playing bass
Well done mate. I've been a huge Cure fan since I first got The Head on the Door in '85. 14) Wild Mood Swings 13) Bloodflowers 12) The Cure 11) 4:13 Dream 10) Three Imaginary Boys 09) Faith 08) Japanese Whispers 07) Wish 06) Seventeen Seconds 05) Pornography 04) The Head on the Door 03) The Top 02) Disintegration 01) Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me
@@inaminute1826 It's just a question of volume. The top several Cure albums are loaded with 5 stars songs that a Cure album loaded with 5 star songs just can't be beat.
@@179rich straight facts doe. Cool list tho 😳😳😳😳 idk but I think Wish might be my favorite album from them but Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me is probably in top 3
I much prefer the US version (Boys Don’t Cry) over the UK version of Three Imaginary Boys. I actually made my own Deluxe version of that with the other songs from TIB and some oddities/b-sides as bonus tracks.
My running commentary on your list: BF: I see why. Overlong. Stand out for me is Maybe Someday. TIM: what? This rules. Def better than half of them. 17S: well, I guess we’ll see that we are different Cure fans from different sides of the arena. I love this. Top 5 for me. TC: agreed. This album has problems. WMS: this came out right after I got married and my wife and I played this incessantly. Therefore I like it more than most. Main issue: there are about four songs here that are like different takes of the same song. F: probably my least favorite of their early days, but it’s still pretty great P: masterpiece. Top 3? TT: mixed bag. I like all of the songs, but none of them are masterpieces. Nice call out to “Birdmad Girl” I love it. 413D: album is like a collection of b-sides D: your points are justifiable, though i wouldn’t alter any of it. KM: top 5 for sure. The cure’s white album. Ah, you just said it. W: I’m super partial to this, too Is Japanese whispers going to be 1???? Oh, of course. JW? THOTD: a fine choice Good list.
1. Disintegration 2. Faith 3. Pornography 4. Kiss Me *3 5. Seventeen Seconds 6. Wish 7. Three Imaginary Boys 8. 4:13 Dream 9. The Head on the Door 10. The Cure 11. Japanese Whispers 12. Bloodflowers 13. The Top 14. Wild Mood Swings Another discography that's really awesome, but very hard to rank. 1-5 are masterpieces. 6-8 are great, but very hard to rank them in that order since they are really great! I know that your number one is my number nine, but it's an awesome album though. The rest of the other albums are really solid and contain some really good songs.
You need to do a remaster edition with the cure. Anyway, The cure is my favorite band of all time, here's my ranking 13 - The cure 12 - Bloodflowers 11 - 4:13 Dream 10 - Wild mood swings 09 - The top 08 - Three imaginary boys 07- Pornography 06 - Head on the door 05 - Seventeen seconds 04 - Kiss me kiss me kiss me (this record frustrates me, you could lose 6 songs on there and replace them with the best b-sides of this era and it would be number 2 barely under disintegration, as it is it's too uneven, if nothing else 11-12 songs would have been enough) 03 - Faith 02 - Wish 01 - Disintegration
Disintegration Head on the Door Pornography Faith The Top Japanese Whispers Kiss Me Seventeen Seconds Wish Three Imaginary Boys Wild Mood Swings Bloodflowers The Cure 4 13 Dream
To me the top 3 are really close and all superb albums 1. Wish - this is the best album for me in terms of pulling off the long atmospheric pieces successfully with the most emotional resonance and intriguing compositional structure and focus like on the title track and From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea. Fantastic prog rock. It also has interesting variations on pop flavored songs like the sensual, funky and catchy Wendy TIme in addition to the fabulous pop song Friday I'm in Love 2. Head on the Door- this strikes me as the best and most cohesive pop record though it lacks the long atmospheric intensity of some of the selections on Wish. However, that said, if one wants a highly appealing, intelligent and innovative pop record without plunging to deep into darkness though it certainly exists. This album is also the most "natural" sounding with the catchiest acoustic guitar riffs as in the opener In Between Days. Even the few shorter atmospheric pieces that exist are better to me than a lot of the ones on Kiss Me Kiss Me and Disintegration, for example, the intriguing and authentically delivered eastern style on Kyoto Song with an instrument resembling a xylophone. 3. Kiss Me Kiss Me- This one probably has the most songs that I like a lot because of the great number songs and the quality melodic hooks and many moods. with the great singles like Why Can't I Be You, Just Like Heaven and in fairly quick succession. How Beautiful You Are is one of their very best songs with a great balance between pop and prog elements and great use of strings, guitar and intricate percussion to add a classical and jazzy texture and the vocals have a bittersweet.urgency and mix between brightness and darkness that is compelling. The closing piece FIght closes the album on a memorable high note filled with defiant but expressively beautiful anger,. 4. Disintegration- of all albums considered the best by a group my view diverges the most with the Cure.In my opinion, the long atmospheric pieces though good seem to go on for too long, a number sound similar and a there is kind of a pessimistic vibe that sets in. However, Love Song is a classic with beautifully memorable melody and atmosphere, Pictures of You is an intriguing and heart breaking song about loneliness, and the title track is the one atmsopheric piece that really gels wonderfully for me. 5. Japanese Whispers - Love the singles Pictures of You and Lovesong and like Fascination Street
Certainly an unusual list compared to what I see from everyone else but I think that's what makes it a good video. I have no real criticism to give on it since I've only listened to Three Imaginary Boys through to Japanese Whispers and Disintegration. I have a lot to hear still. So far my top 3 is probably Disintegration, Faith, Pornography.
Best piece of Cure vinyl... US mini-LP "The Upstairs Room" "Just One Kiss" "The Dream" "The Walk" "Lament" "Let's Go to Bed (Extended Version)" (only available on some later European releases) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NDN2ChRXxjo.html
(tie)1 Disintegration 1 Faith 2 Pornography 3 Seventeen Seconds 4 Kiss Me 5 Wish 6 Head on the Door 7 Bloodflowers 8 Wild Mood Swings 9 The Top 10 Three Imaginary Boys 11 4:13 Dream 12 The Cure Jason misses the point so hard that the Cure are best when they are cohesive, which is why Head on the Door is not that good. Plus being all by Robert, it just was such a pastiche of crap that he had in his head. Some of those songs are among their best, Inbetween Days, Push, and Sinking are easily in my top 40 Cure songs. And yes, I know that Kiss Me was also incohesive, but it featured songs contributed by the whole band, which explains the varied nature of it, and yet there is a through track on some of them, if you were to edit the album down, you could have a couple of different types of album. I just made an edit called "Kiss Me, Introspectively" that removes every single, turns The Perfect Girl, A Japanese Dream, and How Beautiful You Are into the singles of the album. It brings in Chain of Flowers and also the remix of Icing Sugar. I tried to fit in Breathe but I couldn't find any of the songs that have that feel that I wanted to take out instead. open.spotify.com/playlist/31wUVwEPGw4j0Lu57gscdD?si=5ae67dfb5f424eb6

Well, that‘s certainly an interesting ranking. Never heard of anyone seriously preferring 4:13 DREAM to SEVENTEEN SECONDS, FAITH and PORNOGRAPHY, let alone putting it up there into the Top 5, apparently considering that particular bunch of songs to be more „tuneful“ or in some inexplicable way generally superior to the songs on all the lower ranked albums. Definitely a headscratcher there, but hey, to each their own. 🤷🏼♂️
Might as well do it right now: SIGN O THE TIMES has at best a handful of inspired pieces of songwriting on it... I actually prefer the BATMAN soundtrack over that one, which is insanely underrated, 'cos it has super-tight and fun tunes from start to finish... And while HOUNDS OF LOVE sure bears a killer production and has a few great emotional deliveries on it, her early albums are WAAAAY more interesting musically. Oh, and 50 WORDS FOR SNOW simply sucks ass. There, I‘ve said it... for the millionth time! 😉😎
Interesting video. I would rate some of the earlier albums a lot higher, especially "Faith" and "Three Imaginary Boys". I wonder if you've ever listened to Siouxsie and the Banshees? An excellent group (Robert Smith also joined the band as a guitarist for an album!), and they put out a variety of records going from punk, to post-punk, to gothy pop similar to The Cure (though I would say, the Banshees are better! :P).

Stefan Marstrander Same! I wish Boys don’t cry was released over Three imaginary boys, I would only prefer TIB if it featured Killing An Arab. Also the cover is better.
My top few in no order are 17 Seconds. Faith. Pornography. Disintegration and Bloodflowers. The Top, Head On The Door, Kiss Me and Wish get a close runner up prise. The rest I can take or leave.
@@TastesLikeMusic I graduated HS in 84 there was The Cure developing their sound as I was a teen and it was all part of my soundscape. I really appreciate your YT page and I lost interest when Kramer left but I really appreciate your reviews. On so many bands in so many timeframes. Don’t give up there is a niche for this and you have an ear.
I Know that Japanesse Whispers isn´t a real studio album , it is a collection of singles , but it works like an album and I think it should be included in any list. My list: 1. Disintegration 2. Wish 3. The Head On The Door 4. Kiss Me 5. Pornography 6. Japanesse Whispers 7. The Top 8. Bloodflowers 9. Faith 10. The Cure 11. Three Imaginary Boys 12. Seventen Seconds 13. 4:13 Dream 14. Wild Mood Swings Greetings from Canary Islands (Spain)
I have to disagree with your list. I am guessing I am a little older than you so this could be why. And i wanted to right about it.here is my list and reasons why 1. Disentegration. I agree its a little long. But the 4 singles are fantastic. Probably far away the best set of singles from any album. The title song is one of their best heavier songs from the more popular period. Prayers of rain and same deep water is you are a few of their best slower longer tracks. Incredibly moving. Then plainsong and closedown are underated as well. Untitled the only eh track. 2. Kiss me kiss me kiss me. Although this is probably my favorite cure album for individual songs the production on distengration beats this. Amd i think mood wise distengration is the reason why its most fans favorite. It nails the meloncholly and beautifully goth sound. The snakepit, if only i could sleep, kiss me and torture are some of their best darker ones. Thousand hours, catch, one more time are fantastic and the best collection of pretty trqcks. Hot hot hot, all i want and icing sugar some of their most adventurous. Not a big fan of why cant i be you. Just like heaven is what it is. 3. This is so hard. Faith, japanese whispers and head on the door. All 3 could be 3-5 for different reasons and depending on mood. And thats the great thing abiut the cure. It depends on your moon u can choose different albums. Japanese whispers is so underated. Walk, lovecats and lets go to bed are all some of their best early singles.again if you just looked at the singles from each album and rated them together against each other Japqnese whispers' singles are in the top 3 easily. But as a dance music fan this album is ahead of its time. Just one kiss, the dream, upstairs room are excellent. Speak my language also. The only thing this album is missing is a ballad. But this album changed the cure in a 180. From a goth band to new wave band. From sad to happy. The b-sides are fantastic as well. There would be no friday im in love , why cant i be with you, close to me, wild mood swings type songs if it wasnt for this album. Faith has soem of their darkest. And i love head on the door for the concert live in orange that promoted it. 85 is when i became a huge fan and so head on the door holds a special place for me. If i had to chose. 3. Head on the door. 4. Faith 5. Japanese whispers 6. Wish Wish has some bad songs on it. Trying to hard imo. Unstuck was lame. Wendytime tried too hard. The opener and closer were below par too. Trust, apart, high, to wish and from the edge of rhe deep green sea all good. Half good half bad. 7. Seventeen seconds. 8. Pornography 9. The top 10. Bloodflowers. And the rest. Bloodflowers is a little better than you give it credit for. Good songwriting. And its a bit heavier than what they had been doing for the past 10 years before. To answer your question kn why 4:13 dream no being more liked. The artwork isnt different then the 2004 album really. And not enough gloom and in 2008the cure just wasnt on even the cure fans mind. They had really been dormant for a good 8 years since bloodflowers. And 2004 came and went. I just dont think cure fans really wanted to be dissappointed or care about the new stuff. Just probably into other music like i was. Good list overall. Glad to see kiss me and head on the door so high on your list. However i think the early ones need a little more love and thats even from me who doesnt rate pornography that high. And i think wish is overated. Wild mood swings is always rated so low by most. And thats fine Its got a lot of similar songs and no flow. No ballad or longer song to make the album have a better flow. Its just 4 minute song after 4 minute song. And i think that like 413 dream will turn off cure fans. we need that good 3 minute ballad or quirky song. We need that epic 7 minute one like disintegration has. Thabks for the video
@@TastesLikeMusic It's considered a compilation but I think it works fine as a regular studio album. None of those tracks are on any "proper studio album." So I included it in my list.
