i havent like heard this track in like easily 30 years!!!! i can still recall the lyrics....as a coloured youngster in South Africa i begged my mom for a keyboard for a Xmas present....and Close to me was the first song i like learnt to play!!!!!!! oh wow..this is amazin!!!! Hahaha I'm the same- haven't listened to the cure, the velvet underground or the smiths and so on in 30 odd years, but when I pop it on on you tube, I can still remember all the lyrics. Have a good day!
Robert’s voice is intact. Gallup’s bass lines go straight to your heart. Reeves Gabrels is a guitar hero. So glad tha Bamonte is back. Can’t wait to here this line up on record.
Awww his voice is still so good. I got goosebumps. So happy they are still playing and getting new fans these days. Pretty fun to see my nephew discover new old bands. I'll introduce the Cure to him tomorrow on Christmas! Darn kid already outplays me on guitar lol.
At first, I thought for sure the vocals were a backing track, until I watched him really closely as the song went on. The effects on his vocals help, but he sounds surprisingly similar to when he was younger. How is that possible? He definitely has 1 of the most unique voices ever. Even someone who isn't into The Cure couldn't deny the fantastically individual quality. While listening to him bop & scat around with his voice, I thought how amazing it must be to have such a cool voice, that you can just open your mouth in front of a mic, and just about anything that comes out sounds good. Breathy sounds, little yelps, all of it cool.

I guarantee, you'll wish you were this cool when you're 63. And the fact that he isn't overly concerned, makes him even cooler. Yeah, he looks older & put on weight, but he isn't doing anything different than before. Same clothes, same makeup, same hair, it just has the kinkier texture of grey hair now. He's got his style & he's still doing it. Can't fight aging. Shouldn't try to.
I'm not sure it's terrible, he was never a brilliant vocalist, his voice is ok but . . He's 63, you'd think he'd want a more peaceful life. Maybe this is his version of peace.
@@fujisamasensei7314 Autotune? Gtf you 🤡 I was 20 when The Cure started. I bought some of their stuff but Smith was never a strong vocalist. Music is subjective. You're obviously thick if you don't know that.
