The Cure For Cabin Fever

January in New England is synonymous with a sense of cabin fever. Getting outside prospecting this time of year is the only cure for the winter blues. There is something special about gold prospecting with snow on the ground. Its way better then sitting on the couch and eating cheez-its 😀. Hope you enjoy!

It’s summer in Australia! Love some Gadzie and Chris . Too cold for this old dude. If you find gold,it’s a pretty good indicator that there’s gold there 😂 Pioneer Pauly. I can’t wait til summer 👋🏻😎

Cabin fever plagues the entire northeast in the winter. Gearing up and embracing the outdoors is preventative maintenance. Another great video 👌

Without rubber gloves my fingers would freeze 😁. The green mountain gold trap is the right choice for the material in the creek. Get out and do it. right on, mate ⚒👍🤠

Thanks Peter! As long as I keep the hands moving and push the cold thoughts out of my mind then I’m good to go! You’re right, the gold trap works great there. I’m totally guilty of over feeding it though 😂. With that said though, it still performs like a champ!

I know that, like all of the Appalachians, the green mountains trend generally north/south. I do know through research on glacial erratics, that the majority of heavy glacial erratic that gets dropped, most is on the north facing side of the mountains because as the glaciers advanced, the heavy material piled up on the side of the mountain it ran in to. The lighter material is dropped on the south facing side as the glaciers retreated. That might offer some insight in situations where the streams are running east/west between the mountains !
@northeastexpanse
@northeastexpanse 7 месяцев назад
Great insight John. The clay compaction is quite heavy in this area. I come across a mix of pieces that are flour and then pieces that have some character to them. I’ve been mapping a lot of areas over the last year and like the challenge of finding gold in an area less traveled rather than spots that are popular.

@northeastexpanse I agree.... it's no fun "finding it", if it's already been found ! the small brooks and streams going down the north face of a hill or mountain have always yielded me more than any on the south facing side. Funny how us prospectors, chasing the tiny pieces, still need to consider the largest scale structures to increase the chances !
@northeastexpanse
@northeastexpanse 7 месяцев назад
Very interesting, sounds like east side of the greens if I’m interpreting that right.
@John-ir2zf
@John-ir2zf 7 месяцев назад
@northeastexpanse the greens run north/south(the trend of the mountains). Look for streams on the downhill, north facing side, between "peaks". Picture as the glaciers pushed over the mountains(from the north to the south) the heavy material was scraped off the bottom of the glacier and piled up on the northern side of any hill or mountain it went over. I did a quick Google earth look. The town of Goshen in VT, almost directly south of it is a large hill. That north facing slope is where the heavy erratics and gold would drop as the glaciers scraped over the top of it. East of Goshen a few miles is similar, there is a stream running through the valley. On the south side of that stream, is the north facing slope of another mountain. Any drainage flowing down that slope, towards the stream in the valley, will have more gold than the opposite side,or north side of that stream. An awkward analogy would be dog poop on your shoe LOL, as you scrap your foot forward (or south as the glaciers moved) all the big stuff comes off. As you drag your foot backwards (or north as the glaciers receded) the rest of the small stuff comes off.
