I wanted to buy a 1980 Pinto panel wagon from a guy about 25 years ago. It was in nice shape even the paint was pretty good. All it needed to actually drive it was a transmission. It was a 4 speed manual or could easily be converted to an automatic. It was a cool little car orange/ wood sticker on the sides. Had a little round moon window in the upper rear corner. I offered the guy way more than it was worth at the time $1500.00. He wouldn't sell it because he said that it was his retirement project. Yep it's still sitting in the same spot it was 25 years ago. Now it's pretty much worthless and too far gone to do anything with.

I was driving down the highway just cruising along looked over sitting in a yard under a big oak tree was a 65 Dodge Coronet. I couldn't get stopped fast enough so I turned around went back for a closer look. Looked from the road at it for a bit, around these parts way out in the country I've learned not to take it upon myself to get to close, some folks get really upset when you ask about their old cars. I built up my courage and knocked on the door. A teenager came to the door so I ask him, is that car for sale, he said yeah its my dads I said is he home? He said naw he won't be home for a while but it's for sale. I said do ya mind if I look at it. He said sure go ahead. It had flat slicks on the back of it. I pulled the pins and opened the hood, cross ram with two four barrels & 426 Super Stock on the valve covers. The kid said i think he wants $500 for it. I said ok I'll wait in my truck till he gets here. So I went to the truck waited for a while and my wife started bitching about she don't feel like waiting... nag, nag, nag. So I ended up taking her home and went straight back to that house. Someone else bought the car by the time I got back to that location. Now she's my exwife.

If you were ever around dirt track racers...….Some old racers used to take a drill and oblong the holes on the cam gear and that was how they changed the valve timing. You put a locking shim on it when you get it where you want it, tighten it and bend the tabs over to lock it in place. Racing on the cheap.
@Motor-City-Mike
@Motor-City-Mike 4 года назад
@@tint661 That's still done to this day - and it wasn't just dirt track, that's how all us "old guys" lock them in after degreeing the cam in instead of paying more for adjustable timing sets. (I've been doing it for over 40yrs).

My Dodge Demon had one in it when I went to put a Direct Connection cam in it circa 1980 I took the timing cover and gears off... My dad and grandfather owned Speed City USA back then and I had to whimper at their boots to find out what the hell that thing was. Turns out my grandfather being a retired A&P mechanic worked with aircraft and those timing retard devices were quite common on inline aviation engines.
