Extremely proud to have been involved in the development of this game. A great team whose passion paid off. I was pleasantly surprised to see Gamers cover this. I've yet to speak to someone who actually completed the game. Most of my friends gave up for it being too scary :D. If anyone wants to collect my ID I'm in Comms as 'D.Turner' (not my actual name).
Thank you for a wonderful game that is begging for continuation! It's one of the few games that was so good I had to play through to see what happens in the end. I love survival horror like dead space, but even those games I've not finished. isolation was another story, that had to be experienced through. We need another alien game similar to isolation but in VR!!!
OOOoooh, as a massive fan of this game it is always exciting to see one of the devs doing as much as even leaving a comment under a video on the game! It is my favourite video game experience ever and even after clogging up over 250 hours on it and learning how it works and how its elements come together, amazingly it is still incredibly effective! Say, what was your role in the development if you can share that with us?
Can't express my gratitude for your contribution to this masterpiece. I hope you all received the appreciation you deserve, it is quite obvious that this must have been a passion project for a lot of people involved. I got that wonderful art book last year and yes, I have finished the game - twice - including all achievements 🙂
You guys are great :). Always makes me happy to see others who enjoy A:I. You can actually play it in VR, albeit a little hacky. I remember trying on a DK1 and the map was projected on the floor. Very cool. A:I was my second industry job. I was at CA as part of their QA team before moving onto Total War. The A:I team were some of the most passionate and devoted people I've ever worked with. Thank you all for your kind words.
Arguably the greatest survival horror of the last decade. This game was literally a love letter to all Alien fans. The sound design in this game still blows me away to this day. No game has ever given me so much anxiety, stress and excitement all at once.
Its just too bad that it was too long, had long stretches of nothing made worse by having to sneak constantly, alot of backtracking and. the AI that hilariously people jerk off about while ignoring that FREQUENTLY the Alien AI would either get stuck in a loop or, outright break forcing you to quit and reload.
@@lutherheggs451 I do agree that while the Alien can be unnecessarily aggressive at times, it's still one of the best enemy AIs out there even compared to ones today. I also agree that the game could've executed the android plot a bit better as I only saw it as padding. They could've woven the android bullshit into the Alien plot instead of just using it as an interlude before the climax.
I think you mean it was figuratively a love letter. If it was literally a love letter... then it wouldn't be a video game, it would be an actual love letter.
I watched a playthrough when it came out because I'm genuinely too afraid to play. I could barely play dead space without using the attached flashlight when you ads, I guess I was 8 or 9 when i played the demo. Definitely a game I want to try but it seems really frightening
@@RossTheNinja well I mean it's supposed to be a horror atmospheric enjoyment, simply turning it into a monster killing shooter would remove much of the enjoyment of being in the character who is facing an OP villain's shoes.
I totally get it, like in real life you'd be terrified that if you didn't kill it outright it would fiercely murder you. That sliver of uncertainty is just enough to make you hold back. Speaks to how immersive the game was IMO
definitely nowhere near perfect. It was too long, the 2nd half turns into a shooter, the constant having to sneak everywhere combined with alot of backtracking made it a slog. The AI constantly either would get stuck in a loop or flat out break, which mixed with the garbage save system made it frustrating as fuck when you had to quit and reload because of the AI problems.
@@lutherheggs451 don't know what you played mate, 0 issues and it was PERFECT length. P E R F E C T, it is just a game for you, really that's how it feels :)
@@lutherheggs451 omg how many times would you reply with that same comment? if you're not satisfied then okay??? u dont have to shove your opinion on someone else's throat
I am a lifelong Alien franchise fan, but I couldn’t get through more than an hour of gameplay. It was too effective at being scary; and I don’t mean that as a criticism, quite the contrary.
Agreed. I'm still trying to complete it, but it's not something you can just jump into. Lights off, headphones on. Neighbours warned not to call the police when they hear me shrieking and begging for mercy. 🤣
I'm stunned by how much your production quality, writing and editing keeps improving so much. One of the channels I'm most proud of being a Patron of! Keep up the great work!
Go play alien blackout on your mobile phone, it's a direct sequel to alien isolation and while it's not as complex or graphically impressive, it's not too bad
Tell you what I want , give these guys the rights to make a game version of the terminator franchise and see you come to face with the relentless killing machine Of the original film. Running through the streets at night , hiding around upturn tables and destroyed walls in the police station, hiding in run down streets and seeing the red glowing sights of a 44 mag with a red dot sight near you . Fuck I get goosebumps, Sarah Connor being utterly helpless and alone ...
Legit one of the best games ever made. The experience was amazing and I still member it well to this day, hope to see these guys bring us more sometime soon, even if its a remake with Raytracing and stuff :D The graphics, the gameplay, the story all was soo well designed.
This game had a better story than many alien movies. My favorite horror game of all time. The sounds, the incredible voice actors, the tension that was build. What a masterpiece.
Not only it suceeds in any area, but this game is also the only “movie to game” that actually captures the exact vibe of the movie and also adds to it without detatching itself a single time, and with it being horror I think thats an extra hard theme to pull off.
One of the most underrated games of the 10s. I know lots of people played it, but not enough for a sequel and it kills me everytime. This was a true Alien experience and I was wowed by the intelligence of the beast. The perfect organism...
Not really underated... It was up for many game of year awards. It was before the plague that is pay walls...micro transaction... Live service games that slowly festered its way into the industry. Probably didn't see a way to con people game passes in a sequel. Gaming is dead
@@10secondsrule he's not to blame I don't think so anyway I mean horror games are a pretty niche market tbh and with the alien game before flopping hard I think that did more damage like anyone actually takes anything away from a ign review 🤣🤣
I love, love, love this game. Not just because the original Alien is my favorite movie ever made, but because, as someone who has consumed horror games their entire life, this one is by far among the scariest and succeeds in making me tense every time I play it. As much a horror masterpiece as the movie it's based on.
I would hold my breath playing this game, it was so good! The first long stretch with the Xenomorph after you find the flight recorder was one of the most tense gaming moments I've ever had the pleasure of playing. I've also never seen a more stressful saving mechanic in any game.
Sometimes it's best to leave the perfect organism alone. Though recently I've listened to three amazing aliens audio books. "Alien out of the shadows" "aliens river of pain" and a aliens 3 book based off of a script never used and in my eyes is cannon
No - but it left it's mark so severely that the new Alien game references Sevastapol and the events of the, now canon, Alien Isolation - some of it's enemies are basically Working Joes ... [the game itself looks like a mutliplayer attempt to put Colonial Marines right - set in the Alien Isolation universe, from what I've seen] For me - Alien Isolation is up there ... my favourite continuous story: Alien > Alien Isolation > Aliens
9:23 that guy looks just like one of the survivors in the game. Francis... the one who talks to Mahoney at the start of mission 7 i think. Come to think of it, the guy at 9:27 looks familiar too.. i bet many of the npc's are modeled after the developers.
As a HUGE fan of outlast and other survival horror games, this is by far my favorite. The atmosphere, sound design, and general feel of this game was AMAZING. You DID NOT run you DID NOT fight. You went into every single life as of it was your last and it's one of a kind. Genuinely I can not think of a game/movie on such a atmospheric tone.
@@bloodondope I hate you. I had spent two years never mentioning Ryan McCaffrey's name - and then YOU come along. I thought it was over. But you've reminded me that it isn't! Ryan McCaffrey's review for Alien: Isolation, my favourite ever game, was the worst review in the history of computer games journalism. A shocker that can never be forgotten or forgiven. [I don't hate you really - I do hate Ryan McCaffrey though.]
"This is Lingard, Senior Medical Officer, Sevastopol Station. I want to... (correcting herself) I want to state for the record that I have been place under duress with regards to the compromised Patient Zero. And Ransome, Seegson's head of operations, he... ...he made certain threats toward my career and certification, I want that on record. But God help me, that woman needed help. I didn't know what type of parasite she had encountered, but it planted something inside her. I am So Sorry. I had no way of knowing what would happen..." -Lingard's Report
We need a sequel for this masterpiece. Truly a genre-defining game! Even RE:7 borrowed some of its mechanics with the way Jack Baker chased you around the house.
Alien: Isolation's VR mod takes what is already a great survival horror game and elevates it to something truly otherworldly. After playing through it, I will never be able to look at the xenomorph the same way.
As I've said before. What I like about your channel is the background details you get like "All Your History Is Belong to Us" used to before Machinama killed most of their properties and MCN partners. Glad to see someone pick up the mantle. Here's to nearly getting half a million.
36 and just found this superb channel. Isolation was phenomenal (tad long with some niggles) and I’m re-downloading it now. It need a remaster with some tweaks adding in. Would be interesting to have an armed and dangerous mode for players who complete the core experience
Recently got back into this hidden gem, and I found out two things having a new 8k tv: 1. This game is stunning And 2.. it’s bloody terrifying on surround sound 😂🙈
Everyone remembers P.T. and the first Outlast, but this game is rarely praised as a survival horror game. In my opinion it’s easily one of the best survival horrors ever made. The sound design, AI, lighting, and systems all came together and made an unforgettable atmosphere of horror. I love the Alien as a movie monster but I was honestly never scared of it until this game! Sadly I think this game was overlooked due to Colonial Marines having released a year prior.
Alien: Isolation is one of the best PC games I've ever played (and I've been a PC gamer for over 25 years), and I've played it through 6 times. I'm really glad they didn't make it a 3rd person game, because if they had, I never would have even bought it.
Great video on a great game! Alien Isolation proves how trends play a very pivotal role in entertainment even if creators don't want to admit it. The trend in this case being most survival horror were in third person at the time, but Alien Isolation decided to buck that trend, and here we are, almost a decade later and now first person horror (RE; Amnesia) is all the rage again. Ironic, and I'm sure we'll swing back to third person as the '20s go on. Keep up the great work!
It surprises me that people still talk about/play this game to this day. I don’t mean that in a bad way, I’m glad to see that this game still gets recognized being that it’s so underrated/Alien is so underrated!!
I'll never get rid of this game. So many great memories. My kids came into the room and watched me play it like they were watching a horror movie. Surround system and dark room made for some HEAVY heart-pumping thrills and horror.🤣🤣 My kids would yell "Here it comes! It's coming! Shit, Dad! RUN!" I had to explain to them that they needed to resist the urge to run, lest they be overtaken by the xenomorph. They couldn't take the tension. 😅
Bought this game on 3 different systems. That's how much I love Alien Isolation. It's a gem right next or maybe even placed above Dead Space imo. Wish CA would develop a sequel.
Got this on my birthday right when the game was on a anniversary sale and trust me i loved it ,it can run on laptop if you have the right graphic stuff and put low on most stuff. Very spooky also.
I’ll admit. That 3rd person gameplay looked pretty cool/solid. I wish it was available as an unlockable mode upon completing the game on the highest difficulty or something.
I believe members of this team are currently working on a Jurassic Park/DinoCrisis style game using the Alien AI called Deathgrounds. (May be one of the other upcoming Dinocrisis spiritual successors)
I loved this game. It was so amazing to see a AAA game embracing all of these indie horror mechanics with great graphics and the alien IP. From finding Penumbra as a teen, to then play Amnesia later and getting to see it explode and award this small team I'd been following for years was so cool. And then seeing all these design philosophies they created lead to the reinvention of horror video games with this and more recent games like RE7 was like watching a kid you went to school with get famous.
I love the videos when it’s mainly about aliens, not sure why but this channel talking about aliens feels right. I still hope someday we’ll get the Aliens Crucible video back.
Absolute masterpiece. I highly regard this game, even though I've never managed to play more that around 10-15% of progress, I simply can't handle it, too scary for me. But I love everything about it, being a huge Alien fan (having books of H.R.Giger art and original soundtrack on vinyl), I consider this game as a second best piece in all alien universe (just below the original movie). The setting is incredible, I loved the premise and the story, perhaps the most incredible things being the atmosphere, music and sound effects. Great video, thank you!
I loved how unique the gameplay design is. Personally, I couldn't finish the game because (maybe have way through?) it got too intense and frustrating because the creature would always appear (scripted) and I HAD to get passed it and I couldn't. But the gameplay design was a tricky one to nail and devs did great with it.
For anyone that has or is getting this on PC. Not only are there mods to improve the game visually like having reflective floors and removing the lens flare. There is a must have mod that improves the Alien. The game only allows the Alien to show up/be in the area when its supposed to be. Also it has an invisible leash that means it's always magically nearby for the area you are in. The mod removes the leash. The Alien becomes completely unpredictable. It is way better this way and can sometimes make the game easier or harder. A guy I know who's completed the game a few times on console played it. He was shocked when he got killed by the Alien and told me it wasn't supposed to show up when it got him; guess he made to much noise.
fantastic video. very professional. i'm within days of completing Alien Isolation for the first time. On chapter 15 or 16 of 18 at the moment. Definitely one of the best games I have ever played and I will be doing another playthrough or two, getting all the DLC's, and getting some of the excellent mods I've heard about. Playing it vanilla for the first time and it's just been a great experience. Anyways, good stuff.
Incredibly well made video. It’s very informative and I love the footage and pictures of the game’s development and exclusive concept art. I’ve beat the game on hard mode first try over two years ago and I still play it today because it’s a super beautiful game.
What a fantastic game. Since the late 2010’s I haven’t owned a console, as I moved to another country and was too broke to buy one. This caused me to stop gaming altogether, as my laptop wasn’t good enough to run it. I’m no longer a hardcore gamer, but I do play video games from time to time on my ipad. This game was recently ported to IOS, and even though the graphics may mot be as good as a top end PC, the core gameplay remains, and it is fantastic. I’ve loved every minute of this game, and as much as I love Cameron’s “Aliens”, this game feels like the proper sequel to Scott’s film…
From a game design perspective, the sequel would need ways for the player to "escape by the skin of their teeth" that didn't include the flame thrower. As it was, the player's death animation started when the alien noticed them, and not when the scripted sequence started. Having emergency lockable doors, which the alien would then have to pry open, while the player found a hiding spot, would have gone a loooooong ways.
If they announce a sequel, it would be the only game I’d ever pre-order again. Absolutely the best single player game I’ve ever played. Bar none . I’ve 100% it on 360/ Xbox one, and now PC !
Yet, from what I heard, Sega somewhat stated that they did not reach desired expectations in sale with this title. Like the AvP titles and Aliens: Colonial Marines did it. Alien Isolation surpassed the sales of both probably. And is masterfully done, not some rushed crap like the others were.
I have it in my library but have never played it. I can handle horrors okay, playing STALKER to outlast, but Alien is the one film that has always scared me since a child, used to have nightmares with them in it. So having the idea of a unkillable alien hunt me down in darkness puts major fear in me))
Easily my favorite game of the last generation and one of the best horror games ever made standing proudly along the lines of classic Silent Hill games
Loved this game... It wasn't perfect, but it was a terrific experience playing it on my dark living room for a few nights. Could have been a movie, it would probably be the best Alien movie since the Cameron one.
I'm utterly baffled they had to fight so hard to make this a first person game. Honestly even games like the Deadspace games never felt "scary" to me and I think it's because third person detaches me from that experience. Having said that I'm mega happy they stuck with first person and that it did so well. Even to this day it's aged quite nicely
I complete agree with you that first person does that, since you got no idea of what's going on around you...btw they did such a thing with Dead Space, but it was only for the Nintendo Wii i believe.
