The Current State of FIFA 23 Ultimate Team 

My biggest issue is no longer FIFA, but the actual player base. There has never been a FIFA with this many affordable beasts, yet every game is still just playing the same Mbappe, Jairzinho, Sergio Ramos, Zidane, Vieira etc. Even the new friendly mode with a max of 1 89 rated players, everyone just makes 5 subs immediately and brings on those exact same players. Makes the game so boring and is its biggest problem imo

Every week just feels like the same thing

The one feature the game is missing that would take FUT to a different level, is the ability to level cards up properly AND SELL THEM. Example You want a 4*WF Kante, buy Gold Kante and score 100 goals with his weak foot. You want a 5*WF Kante, score 500 goals with his weak foot. You want a much faster Kante, make 1000, 30 yard sprints with Kante. You want a Kante who can pass better, make 500 passes with him, you get a +1 on that type of pass (long, short, through). You want the Outside Foot shot trait, score 100 goals with outside the foot. You want more stamina, play 100 games without being subbed to get a +1 stamina. You want Kante to be able to get chemistry as a LM, play him as a LM for 100 games and now you can switch. Put this on every player but most importantly let us sell that player. Imagine you take the time to build the best Kante possible. Good news, you can sell it on the market and the 100,000 you spent on 3*3* Kante was a great investment because now you have built a 5*5* beast and he's worth 6million coins to someone.

For me the biggest issue is the pack weight. For example, if you get a FUT birthday guaranteed pack, then ALL FUT birthday cards should have the same possibility, imagine how cool and exciting would be to know that you have the same chance of a Vinny J and a Kaer, but when you see that 99.9% of the player base gets Kaer and Onana is very discouraging, and the same with all types of packs like Icons, etc. And for those who say "BuT tHeY CaNt JuSt GiVe OuT ThE BeSt CaRDs LiKe ThAt", why not? this is a YEARLY game, in few months none of it will matter anyways and all of us start over, so who cares?

HOT TAKE: the people who do swaps and sbc's asap are almost always rewarded worse then casuals.

I think deep down, everyone who has been playing Fifa hopes someone will make a game better then them one day.

All I really want is for fifa to go back to when there was a grind all year round! Not as many promo’s, TOTW were special to pack, and by the end of the game not have a rainbow of cards in your team, and having gold cards, TOTW and a few promos, a constant grind

I play FIFA 23 everyday, no complaints at all. Love this year, love having a great squad. Love all the game modes, especially Friendlies when there’s squad restrictions. All modes give you fodder if you play the game, lots of SBCs that have been useable and offerable. YES you can’t get every SBC, YES if you play 4-6hrs every day you have “achieved fifa” but the goal of a video is to play the game. TLDR: FIFA23 is in the best spot it has ever been

Spot on Nep, we’ve all been victims of impulse purchasing fifa points, majority of the time regrettably. With no way of achieving value over time, we’re pointed in the direction of “quick fixes” Edit: getting a lot of “we” comments, perhaps I don’t speak for the f2p players, although I’m addressing the customer base that keeps EA afloat

I had no real luck all year on my main account and decided to start a second one at the beginning of dut birthday. I crafted the icon pick and got prime ronaldinho. I was so upset because I would have liked to have this card on my main but there I get constantly shafted with the icon sbcs. Within 3 days I had a team I could easily play champs with and get maybe 11 - 14 wins but there it stops because I know the curve goes up steep and then you reach the point where you can't upgrade anything for weeks.

They probably realised that with League SBCs people weren't spending on FIFA points. At this point I had around 2500+ players in my club, right now I can't get past 1000. When you have fodder, and can grind the menus easily, EA doesn't make money. It's simple as that.

Also the pack weight is 100% affected by your playtime, record, account age and how long since you last logged on. I had an Xbox account I played from fifa 10 to fifa 22 and the best thing I ever packed was a tradeable mid puyol, this year I switched to ps5 and already on this account I’ve packed, toty modric, toty militao, mbappe twice, toty icon makelele, FB icon desailly and a load of the mid to high range players that sell for around 500k from the various promos. I have a better untradeable team now than I’ve ever had tradeable on any other fifa (outside of the end of the year when it’s stupid) and I’ve also noticed that a lot of the high end cards I’ve packed this year have come when I log on after not playing for a couple weeks. The regulars who will play anyway get shafted cause there’s no need to try and pull them back into the game

They butchered ultimate team when they capped the market, Being able to sell any card for any price allowed many avenues to trade on the fut market place, Then they capped how much players can sell for and absolutely handicapped a lot of freedoms with trading and earning gold without buying it. FIFA was out on a leash back in 2015-2016, it has never been the same.

you could also farm by doing bronzes-silvers-5 common golds through that upgrade why are you not mentioning that? that's just as time consuming as common golds into a 2 rare gold player pack

I’m not sure what you want exactly. I get people being able to start the game and get a ridiculously good team. But it’s that way with any game that comes out every year. If you just wanted the best team possible, then you would just play at the last two weeks and get every card in the game. People are playing fifa because they enjoy the grind of the game. If you get frustrated with someone having a better team then you after 2 days, maybe you are not managing your account correctly. Now this doesn’t give in to play people with incredible pack luck at the start of their account, but it’s like that with all RNG pack kind of games. That’s my stand on this and sorry for the paragraph

I agree with you Nep.. the goals and even assists should be continuous past 500. NHL 23 for example you get coin 2500 for every time you get 100 goals and also for hits.. For EA FC 24 they should reward people for scoring more than 500 goals with packs and at the very least coin

My issue with FIFA23 is the gameplay. The menus can be as fantastic as you like but I've always played fut for the gameplay and I really don't enjoy it this year.

I don’t even play anymore. I have mostly every SBC card. There’s no point of playing I just like collecting the cards anyone feel the same?

There needs to be a way of getting all the best players and top fodder without having to play the game or buy FIFA points. Until then the game is dead.

Lol I don't necessarily disagree, but I'm rocking with a 30m coin club with all my players being good enough through the rest of the game cycle for the first time really ever, so I'm chillin. My luck has been better this year than any other year in the almost 10 years I've played, I've gotten 3 FB Icons just from the Daily Login packs, FB Best being the best one, and for the first time I've barely bought FIFA Points and play maybe 6 hours a week and have accomplished it.

It’s such a shame because I feel like ea actually listened to the fifa RU-vidrs. They complained about not having a competitive gamemode so they added some, they complained about everyone using the same players so they flooded the market with hyper players that ALL LOOK THE SAME. Like fr every base player will get a 4* 4* insane upgrade because every week there is a new promo. I think the reason this game is so boring is partly because of us who asked for all this stuff (but don’t get me wrong Ea also f*cked the game a lot by bad servers and sbc etc. I’m not just blaming the players lol)

Game needs more rewards for playing and preferably playing full matches, like in div10 to 9 you should get 1 common bronze for each full game (and if opponent leaves) or something, in 8-7 then rare bronze, 6-5 common silver, 4-3 rare silver, 2-1 common gold and elite rare gold (could be capped at 84 or something, don't care). Make objectives and all rewards not win based but point based. Centurions was my favourite promo even though most people hated it because of TOTY but objectives were great and should be expanded, every season you should get those 100 games, goals, also assists, clean sheets? Successful tackles? I want upgradeable players, your favourite gold player gets TOTW card? Let me upgrade him with fodder. Everyone would run insane teams? No, imagine consumable card giving you +1 dribbling at a cost of prime icon lottery SBC, people would grind that shit like crazy. Your favourite player gets a promo card? Let me grind my way through all versions of that card, gold, TOTW, second TOTW and finally centurion or something...all through SBCs that would unlock for you the moment you pack such player and play let's say 50 games with him.

Will agree about trading in the most part, though I don’t tend to do too much but its not about the mental capacity to trade but all about my time. Trading in general takes time. Sbcs take time. I would have liked to think that when you buy a game its because you want to play it, not spend that playing time grinding content like sbcs or listing players and sorting out dupes. Something like Efootball has a far better approach, daily rewards for logging in, rewards for playing via gp coins, efootball coins, efootball points or nominating player contracts, and even free players like Messi and Neymar recently. Standard players have a set price to buy, then experience points are used to develop that player. Chance deals for special player lists or just via efootball coins you earn or even efootball points to get legend players, and all players have a one year contract. Yes a lot dont like this game but I find it more relaxing to play, less grinding and more playing, and you dont have to spend a penny to get anything good in the game.

Spot on. Always purchased fifa on release day until this year. I realised over the past couple of years it’s pointless putting time and effort into the game. I got the game on offer the week before christmas, have a crazy team and am bored of the game already. I purposely keep myself in division 8 to do objectives now when i used to go to div 2/1 but the rewards are pointless. There’s no incentive to play the game or be good at it.

At the start of fifa I had awful pack luck must of done so many sbc's, weekly rewards etc... I started a new one boom. Pack luck is insane. Neps right.

Milestones/Certain Objectives should be refreshed the same way that the Season Progress tab is. I agree, Its annoying that I've done the goals and assist milestones but why do I have to wait for the next FIFA game to try and hit those milestones again... it just doesn't make sense and defeats the whole "Ultimate Team" purpose. If the milestones were refreshed after you reached the targets, I promise you people would actually start using Promo Cards from lesser leagues or fun cards more often than not. I have soo many loans and special cards but I at most use 13/14 of them. The rest are just not good enough with any online game mode but if milestones were refreshed, I would have happily used cards from MLS or Saudi to play Squad battles and hit new milestones etc

I have been playing ultimate team since fifa 13 and watching your vids nep since 2012. I haven't touched fifa 23 UT since toty ended and honestly I feel like life is much better 😂. I have time to play other games that are much more rewarding and entice me to come back. Fifa became a chore for me and honestly I didn't realise how much time I wasted on it until I stopped playing. What they do is they squeeze us till fut birthday then they turn the game in such a way that new people buy it cause oh look its fun and so easy to build team with 91 ederson with 99 reflexes

Man….we all rant about the game and content but honestly, the main problem is this community. We are the problem, the way we play, the toxicity, the celebration, the leaving game at 1-1 or 0-0. Maybe the game sucks but we make it way worse…all I face teams name now “rat” “rat leader”

Agreed. More grindable ways to get packs and rewarded for time invested would make me want to play more than I do now. Better moments rewards, more objectives, better daily login xp objectives, anything that gets people to play the game and doesn't require spending money. It's so obvious that everything is meant to send you to the store to spend money on shit that should be unlockable by just playing the game casually.

I started this fifa 1-2 weeks ago and I have basically caught up…

I have played every week fut champs/rivals div 1 and elite/11-14 wins depending how much I can be bothered to play. I haven’t packed anything from rewards that goes into or anywhere near my team only overpriced sbcs get close. pack weight is awful for the good promo cards just pack the dead ones over and over they have just tired push everyone to the store packs in hope of packing any of the good promo cards!

I am stopping right now, I am done with fifa, the last straw was the gamble player picks, I didnt even get a single card worth more than 300k, I feel like there is no reward, is a waste of time and is sad. Imagine seen new accounts pack Pele etc etc and here you get moore, like wtf!

I would be nice to have league specific game modes where you build a ligue 1 team or prem team and get rewards for playing with these players which is more casual and rewards for games played rather than games won all the time.

The only way I get anywhere is if I spend all week dedicated to the point of exhaustion because I also work and it is rough. Makes the game a job more than what it should be.

Silver lounge is the only mod i enjoy playing the most for some reason even if it can be tough sometimes. I like when EA put the requirements in some of the friendlies too, like "89+ rated playes max 1 or 2, or squad rating limit" and this should be in the starting 11 and the subs too to avoid cheating. It is more fun like this and it exposes the people who lack skills. It also gives us a chance to try the players that we usually dont use.

yea the centurions milestones were nice but once you do it, its done. there hasnt been shit since and i started playing the game in like January lol. id also like earnable silver packs from silver objs to do any menu content that uses it as well.

The game has way too many promos now its killed the game fully for me. Used to be exciting to get a totw player for example. Doesn’t feel special anymore having a different card to rare gold because there is so many different cards.

The thing is EA are thinking from a business perspective and them getting new customers is more lucrative than them keeping customers, it's honestly just good business in their eyes...it's a shame that we are not appreciated as loyal players of the game since way back...

You play the same teams because most people only get good players via SBCs packing good players that make the first 11 has been impossible for me since toty. Not one packed player has got anywhere close. My icon and hero pack luck has been atrocious

I hate trading... not that i cant do it. I just dont have the time... i come home from work, have a few hours then i just want to play for fun... if i accumulate fodder i will do an sbc.. then the cycle just starys again..still enjoy the game when i can though.

Can’t agree more nep… startet playing again at fut birthday after I quit because I lost halth my coins because of the first lengthy patch. I basically startet from scratch and have a 3mil team by 2 Weeks with prime etoo mbappe xabi Alonso drogba and some other good players. The problem is i know that from there on it will be so hard to improve my team because there is nothing to grind and the gap between good and elite players is not achievable without pay to win. I think it’s really sad

I can confirm this, i just started since fut fantasy promo and I’ve packed gold mbape, maldini fut birthday, gold messi and gold neymar. And I’ve only played 20 games

There's too many promos, too many hero/icon picks and packs and now everyone has a god squad so there's 2/3 good players each promo and the rest doesn't make the team, none of the birthday SBCs make anyone's team. They really need to slow down the power curve next year

It should be more rewarding to what you call the "new players". If you play this game non-stop every day - of course, at one point, you will complete everything. No game is made to be played that much. It's not passion, it's mental illness.

You can get a competitive team real quick. I know If I was to start a new account, in a month I could get a team on par with mime now. Getting an elite team is where it is hard. Pack luck, trading, coin management and being good to get higher ranks plus shit loads of time is needed. Just not worth it for the casual. It just isn't a casual game if you want to win consistently

I usually agree with Nep and most of the video is accurate. The section about the premium electrum upgrade however is nonsense. I grind each cycle at the cost of 1000 coins. You put in 22 payers and get 24 back, 12 of which are tradable. Very easy and quick grind. Each run through takes maybe 2 minutes.

I think ea should be making the game fun for silver teams. Give more sbcs and objectives which are easy but grindanle to go into games for rewards. I want a break from my meta players in champs but being rewarded would be great

I just think they should work on the gameplay first…. We have been experience bad gameplay since FIFA 17 and all we alway care about is FUT content. No wonder they don’t give a faq.

Sorry Nep… out of all the problems with FIFA, grindable content is not one of them. “Oh Marquee Matchups was great back then” … but do you remember the price of the cards back then? Now you have a HUGE pool of OP cards selling for 50k which you get by reaching rank 8 on WL. I do not miss paying 350k for an 87 SS Lucas Moura in May when today you have Bamba for 45k in April. What needs to change is the garbage copy+paste gameplay with the same issues and poor game mechanics.

I have no cash to waste on some ps plus subscription just to play div rivals and fut champs. Yet my team is GOATed from a few lucky packs and like 1.5 mil coins. I'm no regular on this game. He is absolutely spot on. EA never reward their loyal players. Finished company.

Couldn’t agree more. I used to spend fifa points when I got to the point when it was just so hard to upgrade players to that next level. But even then it took like a few hundred bucks for one player to really upgrade him. Now I just start a new account which is far more rewarding and much more fun because playing the game gives you actual value, whereas playing on a account with a full meta team is just not. Funnily enough it’s actually harmful for a RTG to get like very good cards very early on because it immediately takes away the chance of upgrading that card within a reasonable amount of time in my opinion

Last fifa I played was fifa 17. Last night, I saw fifa 23 for the first time.. this game is so ridiculous, so many hand outs, making every big player cheap and easy, fifa UT is not what it isued to be where having a sick card was rare... its easier than ever, not worth as much and its just mind blowing to see how easy it is now a days absolutely sucks. This represents the bigger issue in society today, everyone wants it the easy way, give me give me... pussies

I gave up on the account I started in November a month ago and started again and my 1 month team is Miles better and I have more coins but now a month in its grinded to a halt again

They give too much too fast also. In a sense that mbappe is end game potm early on... u can get world cup viera or cafu for free (well not time) early on and there end game. So u build a god squad very quickly and anything else after just dont feel satisfying much... Theres no engagment rewards as u say as well... its boring...

I want to also mention another game mode in fifa that has been terrible the last few years. Career mode is so awful to play now. I used to play it non stop on previous fifa's, but ever since they changed the way that positional ratings work and training, it is basically unplayable and tedious as hell. Also the transfer market is fucking stupid

Nep, in this vid, you explain that traders are a tiny, tiny percentage of people... then 2 minutes later, you're having a pop at EA for nerfing the profit traders could make from marquee match ups. When you stand back and think about those two statements... EA have made it better for the masses, because the masses are no longer being exploited by traders.
