Carlos Monzón (August 7, 1942 - January 8, 1995) was an Argentine professional boxer who held the world middleweight title for 7 years, during which he successfully defended the title 14 times.
His glamorous and violent life was avidly followed by the media, culminating with his trial for the murder of Alicia Muniz.
Argentinians adored Monzon throughout his career. He was, however, accused many times of domestic violence by his two wives and many mistresses, and of beating paparazzi.
Sean & Johnston delve into the dark past of Carlos Monzon which included multiple incidents of domestic violence, an incident involving a shotgun, and the grisly demise of his wife.

Probably the most consistently dominant fighter, ever. I’ve watched thousands of hours of fights on RU-vid, and I can’t think of a single middleweight that I would feel comfortable betting on against Monzon. And please don’t bring up any of today’s “middleweights.” Carlos fought in the era of same day weigh ins as the fight, and never had the luxury of entering the ring 10 to 15 pounds over the weight limit. That being said, I would still bet on Monzon.

Carlos Monzon gets a bad reputation, but his close friends and female companions talk about what a humble and good person he was when he was not drinking. His girlfriends and wives were also to blame for his temper tantrums and domestic violence issues. Carlos Monzon like Roberto Duran was born into poverty and rose out of it. Some of his closest friends describe him as a good person who was often misunderstood.

But he was also a great MW champion, so let’s forget about his personality, his fragile ego, the DV and the brutal murder, ok? Let’s blame the victims, they are to blame, poor Carlos had to beat the shit out of them and strangle his ex gf before tossing her off the balcony. How are they to blame? You know, women .. BEN VEN OOOTEEE Liked the discussion despite the bad pronunciation. Also the stoppage of the second fight with Benvenuti was very questionable. It certainly was not a satisfactory end to a fight even if the conclusion might have ended up the same. Benvenuti was known to be great in return bouts and he never had a chance. Arthur Mercanti was supposed to be the referee that night but Monzones corner protested saying they wanted an Argentinian referee for fairness. In any event it almost looked like Benvenuti's corner was in on it as it was they who threw in the towel. Watching Benvenuti kick the towel out of the ring says it all
