Normally these things can be chalked up to the aliens not predicting us advancing in technology as fast as we did. We went from shooting metal and wood arrows at eachother to being able to literally wipe the planet clean with nuclear fire in a couple hundred years. They send a crew out when the planet was in the ice age, maybe even when humans had hit the endangered species list, having a population of around 28 thousand people, and they could have easily killed us and taken the planet. But their ship maybe took too long to arrive, or maybe their telescope that allowed them to see our planet functions like ours, in which they saw the past in which we were less technologically advanced and when they invaded, they hit an enemy that was overwhelmingly prepared for them, to the point that were trying to contact their home planet in a last ditch effort to say that they fucked up and were so unprepared for a actual fighting force.

To be fair they did destroy a large amount of Infastructure but I was also suprised at how neutral the aliens reacted. If it was really an invasion they definitely had the technology to just wipe out every one on the island- they'd have no real use for human lives and even at the end, the mother ship was ready to fuck up the mighty mo' till it assumed the battleship was disengaging- hell you see that like once or twice

Honestly, a world of warships like game where you have the us navy ships going against ailen ships would be pretty cool if done right

I did a playthrough last night and the game actually has pretty damn good graphics for whag it is. Youd be SHOCKED how much having a TV of that era helps with visuals on 360 and ps3. With my 360 on my modern monitor, the games dont even look like they are from the same generation as opposed to playing on my Sylvania 720p. Playin on my 720p tv makes xbox 360 games look like they cane out yesterday, just with lower framerates obviously

the main menu genuinely looks like something from 2007/06. reminds me of crysis and supreme commander

Need to make time to play it, but didn't the Treasure Planet strategy game turn out to be good (if REALLY unknown by most), think it had the guys who made Homeworld working on it.

@@benjaminbierley2074 Treasure Planet Battle at Procyon is a little too simple at times (movement would have been better if it wasn't point and click) but still a really solid fun game that captures the style of the movie quite well. Actually simple really isn't a good description, the controls and UI are simple, but there is actually a lot of complexity under the hood that the simple controls and UI get in the way of. For example: you can board and capture enemy ships if you hit them with a grapple line and get close, but AI teamates will continue to shoot with cannons unless you give them the "hold fire" command, but then they wont even fire the grapple lines needed to board the other ship!

The Battleship movie DID get a mediocre Advance Wars ripoff game tie-in... on DS and 3DS.

They just don't only use an 70 year old warship with their veteran crew aboard it. They also fucking drifted it like if the movie suddenly became Initial D and soloed the mothership of the aliens.

To be fair, that's not just museum boat, that's battleship Missouri. Japanese surrendered at that ship in 1945, it was a flagship for about four decades, last used in Gulf war. Not to mention it hauls nine 16 inch cannons, nothing quite like it was built ever since, it's like an STC from WH40K. No wonder filmmakers tried to make all movie goers to cream their pants with this ship on screen.

I mean, we do keep the Missouri more or less seaworthy and AFAIK it hasn't really been demilitarized... you don't just *find* ammunition for 16 inch cannons or tomahawk launchers though. And it hasn't moved under its own power in like 20 years.

No. This will always be a terrible idea. Battleship the video game, based on the movie, based on the board game, is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard.

The game actually uses the Call of Duty engine. So technically it and BO2 were being developed around the same time.

Well, shooting a bunch of working-class refugees, from this planet or some other, seems pretty in line with US foreign policy. I mean, a lot of the time they would send them back to wherever they were fleeing from so they could be shot by the corrupt and/or dictatorial regime there, but is that really so different? o.o

Fair use probably doesn't even factor in to it. The studios could plausibly have access to a shared bank of assets for rapid prototyping, etc. Only thing is that too many of those rapid prototypes end up as full retail products.

A batter version of this game would be Battleststions Midway/Pacific. No first person shooter bits, but a pretty solid hybrid RTS/navel combat game.
