The Cursed Buddhas At The Bottom Of The Mekong River | Dive Detectives

The Dive Detectives search the mysterious Mekong River in Laos - home to lethal rapids and a century-old mystery of a missing ship carrying ancient treasure. Removed in 1910 by Laos’s French colonial masters, these cultural artifacts were loaded on board the gunboat La Grandière in an effort to bring them back to France, but legend has it the golden Buddha statues and art objects also carried a “deadly curse” - one that would doom anyone foolish enough to try and remove them. The ship entered the rapids south of Louangphrabang and struck a submerged rock - sinking the vessel and drowning the crew.
The section of Mekong that claimed La Grandière is incredibly dangerous. Few divers have ever penetrated its violent current and zero visibility. With the churning water and jagged rocks, one mistake here could be fatal. The Fletchers take on one of the most challenging dives of their career. By employing cutting-edge technology-a special military-grade acoustic camera that will allow the Team to “see” underwater, the Dive Detectives attempt a nearly impossible mission.

I've hunted native american artifacts in rivers for 20 years. Once they are in the river, they tend to sweep down river until they get caught in a river feature or get pushed into a bank or gravel bar and buried again. I can almost guarantee you in a river like this, it got caught in a hook in the river in a sand bar or in a rock pile and buried with sand and mud during floods. Eventually, a flood will expose it again.

Mékong is not a Thai word 😅 The name Mekong was given to the river predated Thailand. The word Kong is actually derived from Gonga - Sanskrit word. And the word Mé is a Mother or Boss. The name of the river has been there for million of years and the inhabitants of the south east Asia have been there longer than Thailand. It was probably a name given to the river by the inhabitants in the area thousands of years ago.

Those scans don't work that way, for searching under water. That's why it's not used to find ancient sunken ships, the missing M370 Malaysian flight or the recent big case of the Titan submersible sub that imploded and killed all onboard. If it were possible, they would have used those technologies. As for the under river sonar scans that are used to search for cars in rivers: the scanner on a boat needs to be going slowly over the waters, in order to scan/pick up the objects shapes. This river is way too fast. So this dude in video had to dive with the sonar, thinking he could go slower & closer that way. So scary dangerous. 😝

When the ship hit the rocks than there started the sinking of the ship. Seeing the flowing speed of the water and the depth of the river taking 5-15 minutes to sink in account when the water stood high by flooding at the time of the sinking the ship must have still made a long way on the flowing river before sinking in the middle of the water flow of the river. You have to make a calculation about the search area to have more chance to find. In this case I expect Heaven keeps it still hidden till the appropriate moment in Heaven's policy by promise.

@NeekaSimon
@NeekaSimon 3 месяца назад
@@jsmoov2156 Laos was a Khmer territory and Laos was born 1300 years after Cambodia, Lao people adopted culture from Cambodia. Lao King Fa Ngum grew up in Cambodia, studied in Cambodia and married to a Khmer Princess Keo Kangnya in Cambodia, she became Queen of Laos and she brought culture from Cambodia to Laos. Wat Phou was built by Khmer and Wat Si Muang is a Khmer temple etc Me Kong in French is a masculine “Le Mékong” so the river can’t be a feminine, a mother, but it’s a masculine a big, or large or a long River.
@NeekaSimon
@NeekaSimon 3 месяца назад
@@jsmoov2156You got confused with an Indian Ganga in India, Ganga is a name of Goddess, a sacred River. Ganga is a Goddess River or a Mother River, it’s a feminine. But, the Mekong is a masculine (Le Mékong) a big or large or a long River that flows from the Tibet plateau across China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
@jsmoov2156
@jsmoov2156 3 месяца назад
@@NeekaSimonNo offense but I know about the history. The Mekong was originally called Mae Nam Khong from a contracted form of Tai shortened to Mae Khong. In Thai and Lao, Mae Nam ("Mother of Water[s]") is used for large rivers and Khong is the proper name referred to as "River Khong".
@NeekaSimon
@NeekaSimon 3 месяца назад
@@jsmoov2156 Yeah, but it’s wrong. The Mekong is a masculine, not a feminine. Thailand and Laos were born 1300 years after Cambodia. In the first century, the Khmer King Kaudinya of Cambodia was originated Indian from India, when the King was Prince Kumeru, travelling by ship from the sea passing by the Mekong Delta through up to Kok Thlok (First land of Khmer people) and the King called it Me Kong មេគង្គ Me Gang, it’s a Khmer-Sanskrit language. The French called it “Le Mékong”, the same Khmer-Sanskrit language. So, Le Mékong is a masculine, not a feminine, not a Mother, but a Father.

Or it would just pass right through it and you'd cruse the wall. Perhaps you could curse it and it would hold your darkness for you, so you could pick it up later when you were ready to deal emotionally with whatever was making you angry. I guess that is true poetically at least and possibly litterally too .

Are they literally holding the rope with only their hands? Why wouldn’t they clip onto it with a carabiner or something similar so could couldn’t be swept from the robe but you could still unclip yourself in an entanglement situation. I wouldn’t be caught dead in that fast and dirty of water just handholding a rope or maybe you would be caught dead if disaster strikes.

A rope grab. It used all the time in construction for example when somebody’s working on a stairwell that’s being constructed. That way you won’t get swept away.

This was a show about nothing. Outside of learning, there was a shipwreck. This show was useless. In the shipwrecked not gonna be where it was with that much water flow. You owe me an hour of my life back!

@donharrus9994 Let me guess, you believe in illusions. If you were content with your own beliefs, you wouldn't say bad about others. It's very telling.
