yeah........ pretty sure people were doing it in the 80s, 70s, 60s, 50s, etc. Then again not everyone was wrestling or even alive back then so they have to be taught.

Daniel W it’s hard to be sure through text but it seems like you mean that negatively. I think this is the best thing about today’s bjj. The adoption of techniques that work regardless of their origin. It’s grappling’s mma.

grappling arts and disciplines have been doing the same techniques since thousands of years. Greeks, Rome, Japan, Brazilian, Russian, USA, African and so on i think the difference comes from the objective of each technique in the specific grappling art and rule set, probably most of them were created even before any country existed cause Grappling is the natural self defence that instinct tells us to try even without training, ask Boxing dudes, they clinch and grab each other a lot when they are in danger, or street fights whatever (i hope you get my point ) sorry for the broken english, i hope it doesnt suck so much hahaha
