I have an all black spyder. Black top, black interior and black paint. I love it. I converted it to AWD and built the engine to a stroker 2.3, I love it. Convertible for summer, AWD for winter, and Turbo for the mountain altitude
The 97-99 GSX is my first love. I had one back in the day with a 6bolt street build with a 20g. Really fun car. Now that I’m 40, and have the money, I’m looking for a clean well maintained one and it’s impossible. Currently budgeting around $15,000 just for the car. I just want to make it into a fun weekend car to drive and keep polished.
I am currently trying to figure out how oil keeps getting on the underside of the hood right above the timing belt cover on my stock 97 GST spider! You are absolute right about them being finicky though. When the OEM spark plugs were due for replacement, I put in split fire plugs (remember those?), and boy did it hate them!
We have a ‘97 my husband has owned since ‘97. Great condition but the clutch keeps hitting the floor. 4 mechanics later and still unable to get it working.
Check your through out bearing and clutch fork. After years of driving the fork may bend slightly and cause bad engagement or the pivot ball will wear out and need to be replaced. If it’s a hydraulic problem replace the stock clutch line with a stainless steel braided line. Check the slave cylinder and the master cylinder for leaks or bad seals. Any air in the system at all will cause the pedal to be useless. If at all possible a gravity bleed works well or a suction bleed is even better. If your in the San Diego/Los Angels area I can help out a fellow Eclipse owner
This happens all the time. Try adding clutch fluid while having someone else pump the clutch pedal. Also sometimes even when its hits the floor..just pull it back up and keep pumping it. Air in the line will cause this but it's a pretty easy fix either way. Both of the things i just explained happened to me and and the recommendations worked.
I'm from the burgh, i dated a girl who had this exact same car. She picked me up from work with the top down, her hot girlfriend riding shotgun. All my co workers were like dang!! Loved this car. Body style is timeless!
I have a 97 automatic gst spyder and it’s been very reliable since I’ve owned it these past 4 years and I barely hit 120k last month. The only drawbacks I have right now is the alternator placement for when it rains and the high pressure return hose on top of the power steering pump leaks sometimes and that can also kill an alternator.
