The way you've brought this wisdom to light touches on such an essential truth of Stoicism-one that encourages us to focus on what we can control and let go of the rest. It’s in that acceptance that we find both peace and resilience. Your choice of this quote feels like an invitation to reflect on how much we unknowingly let external circumstances govern our emotions, and how liberating it can be to shift that power back to ourselves. Have you ever had a moment when you felt yourself reclaiming control over your mind in the face of external chaos? Would love to hear more about how this philosophy resonates with your journey!

You’re absolutely right-while many celebrate the surface-level discipline of routines, there’s often an unseen layer, an untapped wisdom that goes beyond what most people recognize. Marcus Aurelius, with his Stoic practice, may have cultivated more than just discipline; perhaps it was this unseen mastery of the mind and soul that allowed him to rise above life’s challenges. Your mention of Nixorus adds a fascinating twist, suggesting there are profound truths waiting to be uncovered by those who are willing to look deeper. What, in your view, are some of these hidden truths that most people overlook? I’d love to hear more of your intriguing perspective!

Daily Routine: - Wakes up early (out of habit, not routine), starts with tough tasks, and journals first, avoiding distractions like phones. - Stays focused at work, meets people, listens to feedback and criticism. - Life isn’t just about work; Marcus enjoys boxing, wrestling, walking in nature, feeling connected to it, and reading and studying philosophy in peaceful spots. - Takes regular baths, as Romans valued bathing. Imperial Duty: - Stays calm, even in stressful moments. Marcus saw stress as a chance to practice virtue. - Never lets emotions control his actions. Reading & Writing: - Reads to learn and improve, not just for fun. - Reviews his day, noting what went right or wrong, and journals to get better. - Memento Mori: Reminds himself of his insignificance in the grand scheme of things, believing that fame and material possessions aren't that valuable. - Whenever afraid of death, he asks himself if it's because he won't be doing something important anymore. - Thinks about each day as if it were his last, pondering what he could do better if given another chance tomorrow.

For year and a half I used to read that one page in the morning before I got out of bed - it helped my mindset and morning train of thoughts to be more concentrated and intentional. Hey Ryan, really enjoying these videos, like with this one on Marcus Aurelius' routine. Just want to say- I'm a Christian. As in, someone who believes Jesus to be God, and who lives with Him and for Him every day, too. I wondered what your thoughts are on Christianity? If you've you had much exposure to it or ever been interested in it at all? In the New Testament, there's a book called 'Acts'... It's based after the events of Jesus' life as given in the gospels, when the earliest followers of Jesus are trying to spread the word about Jesus and eternal life in Him across the known world at the time (like, mostly around the Mediteranean). There's this one follower called Paul, who comes to Athens to talk about Jesus. He comes across some Epicurean and Stoic philosophers (this is in Acts chapter 17, verses 16-34). These philosophers are intrigued by new ideas, like this one Paul is talking to people about- which is to do with Jesus having been crucified and now risen from the dead, so other people can live forever if they follow Him. They may die in this body/life, but there will be a new body and new, perfect world to live in for eternity, with God. This is what is called the gospel... that we are separated by default from God, because He is perfectly holy, and we are all messy/fallible people. So, Jesus (whom Christians believe is God) came to live a perfect life and then die on a cross to pay the price for all the bad stuff we do... And then came back to life, so that He took away the power of death and being separated from God forever (what the Bible calls Hell). This is for anyone/everyone who wants what Jesus has done for them... and lives with Him/for Him in this life. He basically gives us our connection to God back again! So yeah, these are the kind of things Paul would have been saying- in essence, the gospel! I guess these people were looking for more philosophical ideas, but in fact Paul is telling them about one to do with God and having this new and forever life with Him. The rest of this chapter is about how Paul relates to these Athenians within their culture, talking to them about the ways they seem religious, but then pointing them to know God, if they want to know Him. I would be intrigued to know what you thought of this chapter in Acts... chapter 17, verses 16-34. I find the Bible to be rather philosophical, especially like the 'wisdom books'... like Proverbs (which contains, funnily enough, lots of proverbs!), Ecclesiastes, Psalms. But yeah, just if you read this comment at all, I would be interested to hear how you found this chapter I mentioned from Acts! Thank you for your really engaging and insightful videos :)

These were some simple but deep concepts of being in the moment, being intentional, and not getting absorbed in yourself, for each of these lots of practice is needed. But, Guess what? there is nothing better to do with life than to do this.

*The daily routine that shaped Marcus Aurelius was not just a series of mundane tasks, but a deliberate practice of self-discipline, reflection, and purpose. Every morning, he would rise to confront life’s challenges with wisdom, courage, and virtue, knowing that the path to greatness lies in mastering the self. His routine was a balance of mindful action and introspection-journaling his thoughts, meditating on Stoic principles, and dedicating himself fully to his duties. Through these rituals, he cultivated resilience and a deep sense of inner peace, proving that the secret to true strength and leadership is found in each day's quiet, consistent effort. Embrace this same discipline; you too can forge a life of greatness, one day at a time.*

It wasn’t til I started being around like minded people that I realized my roomates statement to me was extremely arrogant and stupid. One time I was reading Epictetus and mentioned how crazy and amazing his teachings are. My roomate “tries” to be optimistic but he kinda thought for a second and then said basically that he felt like anything in the past is completely irrelevant and theres nothing to learn from it. This isn’t exactly what he said but it’s 80% roughly what he said and I just responded with “yea our society has greatly changed but us as people think and behave exactly the same. How can you think that it doesn’t matter or at least isn’t interesting?”
