I am 60 years old and have been a Cowboys fan my whole life. I loved some of the 70's teams but you are right, this 92 team was special and in my opinion the absolute best Cowboys team ever. Loved this video!!
I was born in 60 in Beaumont TX and remember all those great games from back then as well. Watching them on our little TV at home or even better, Pappy's big console floor model next door! Lifelong Cowboys fan!
I absolutely agree, they were balanced and dominant. As a Cowboys fan living in NYC, surrounded by Giants fans who won two superbowls, and after going 1-15, 1992 was just incredible.
"Coaches are hired to be fired", this axiom was unfortunately confirmed when Jerry Jones fired my favorite coach of all time, Mr.Tom Landry. At the times. I was not at all pleased by the way he put him out to pasture. But like a great historic organization, Coach Landry will always be remembered as the foundation corner stone, where the success rightly rested and where the blame was put on. Jimmy Johnson was a worthy successor who's accomplishments speak volumes of America's team. Especially that trade that basically pickpocketed the Minnesota Vikings, LoL. LC, as always thank you my friend for putting so much work into your quality presentations. God bless you!
I remember my idol Herschel at that time. I wrote him a letter to Dallas in 1989 and got a reply in the form of a signed photo from Minnesota in early 1990. Still got it. Was floating just as much when he came back in 1996. Superb analysis of this topic...you made a complicated arrangement far more clear.
@@thelogicalcowboy and from a different team and mailed to where I grew up in England! The picture is from that first game he played for the Vikings against Green Bay. Must have forwarded the mail. Youll forgive me for having what amounts to rival Vikings memorabilia. Ha!
Evidence of how well Kevin Smith was against Jerry Rice, in the mid 90's Rice named him as one of the three toughest corners he'd ever played against in one of those The Sporting News player ranking lists.
You took me back 32 years, LC, to the excitement I felt while watching arguably the greatest team ever. Because of your style and thorough research, I decided to subscribe.
I agree! The 1992 Dallas Cowboys were the best team ever in the NFL. I won $300 off a Super Bowl bet against a Bills fan. The Cowboys already had the game won a week before the kick-off. Pure adrenalin!
I cherish the memories of that time with the Cowboys. I was in my early 20’s and had been a Cowboys fan since I was a kid. Going through the one win season and then to the Super Bowl so quickly was just amazing. Watching this brought back a lot of good memories. Thank you for another awesome video.
The news and game footage you select for your videos are always spot on. To view the rise of the Dallas dynasty in the 90s through their draft trades and picks was pretty cool. Thanks for another awesome video.
60 yrs old, remember this team well. No one expected this a couple of years before. The '92 Cowboys were the Perfect Storm. Great Coaches, great QB, great WR's, All World RB, All World Defense, even Special Teams. It's arguable, but I believe the '92 Team was top 3 easily Greatest Team of All Time.
This team was epic. There probably will never be another Cowboys team like the '92 squad and no other team in the future will come close to matching them.
@@richardcoronado4081 you're bang on. And full disclosure - Eagles Fan here. You will never find another GM dumb enough to make that trade or an owner foolish enough to give you a Charles Haley. That team was a perfect form of stupid: stupid vikes GM and stupid niners owner
That 92 cowboys team once it got in the playoffs was mind numbingly dominant,I watched the replay a couple months back and when I seen an Allpro running back in Thurman Thomas goin,"damn, damn" repeatedly on the sideline I almost felt sorry for that team, they never stood a chance,It took me years of watching Dallas since to realize just how great of a team and group of coaches we were witnessing, great show as always!
One perfect trade and a coach that was great at evaluating talent and getting the best out of every player. Then the dynasty began and if not for a couple EGOS we had a real chance to win 4 or 5 superbowls in a row. When there was no cap no free agency Mr. Jones bought us the best. We were 2 starters deep on the O.L. and D.L. had the best coaches and players we could buy. Draft picks and players thats playing your hand perfectly
I don't know how anyone feels about Jerry Jones but for about two decades the vitrole he's gotten from the fans and media has been brutal at best. People tend to behave like he generated 3 Superbowl championships. Is he too involved in the day to day operations more than any other owners yes! Lol. He said "I own the team so I'm going to be involved in the teams operations" lol . Hey he has continued the relevancy to a much stories franchise. If you think about it he had a hand in drafting some great players not including the 92 - 95 dynasty Dez, DeMarcus Murray, Tyron Smith, Zack Martin, Tyler Smith, Sean Lee ( imo one of the greatest tackling LB I've seen) Dexter Coakley CeeDee Lamb, Micha Parsons, DeMarcus Ware, Dalton Schultz, Dak Prescott, Zeke Elliot, Tony Romo, Marion Barber, Jay Ratliff, Jason WittenI think people still have resentments that he pretty much forced Jimmy Johnson outta Dallas. Has he made mistakes yes he has, yet no one can deny that he has kept this franchise thee most talked about football team in the NFL and perhaps thee biggest fan base in the NFL
Much respect to your channel bro. This is the only "COWBOYS RU-vidr" ( and they're way too many now that just regurgitate each others videos) that i even watch. Your channel is unique, not just clickbait "breaking news". I get my COWBOYS news from the actual COWBOYS RU-vid channel, but what i get from your channel you really can't get anywhere else
Superb video. Superb footage that brought back a lot of memories. I was younger and and could follow the game religiously. The JJ-JJ Dynasty team was clearly good enough to win 5 SBs on the trot. Egos did not allow that. Hindsight illustrates the importance of consistency, discipline, process, focus, respect.
Fastest 40 minutes of my life. Brought back a lot of memories. You Sir are a Legend! I got to go to Super Bowl XXVII. I agree with you on the 92 Team. They had the size and speed to play against any era team.
Great video once again LC!!!! The main thing I remember while watching that '92 team was they were the first team I saw that not only had no weaknesses but were dominant in all aspects of the game. They just didn't make many mistakes. Their defense was criminally underrated to this day, despite getting 9-Super Bowl turnovers. It's hard to explain to fans who weren't around just how special that team was, and we knew then. Great Job!!!
This was very good I love your content and your stats are just incredible and mind blowing comparing the 92-93 defense to the 85 🐻 defense just mind boggling and nobody never put that together keep up the great work
I never understood why the Dallas Cowboys traded Herschel Walker, and I still don't like what they handle Tom Landry regardless of what they say, but I truly loved when Emitt Smith came to town, especially when it finally all came together, the triplets and the Gang. Thank You LC for breaking it down for us. THE SARGE
At that moment it was the right move for Minnesota. Those Vikings teams from 1987-89 were the real deal but just needed a running back. None of those 5 players were going to help the Vikings. Of course the Vikings front office didn’t think Jimmy would cut those 5 guys for draft picks. They wanted Walker that bad but wasn’t thinking about the future. If they win the Super Bowl in 1989 or 1990 it wouldn’t have been a bad trade. Jimmy just made the right moves afterwards. He still had to make the right picks and he surely did.
"They turned the draft from being an old man's sleeping club to a Game of Thrones match straight out of an HBO series." LOL! So true. And yeah, I think the 92, 77, and 71 Cowboys are all solidly in the greatest of all time argument, along with a few other teams from various franchises. There are several that are clearly above the cut of the rest, and the 92 Cowboys are one of those.
😂 😂 I was laughing when I said that!! 🤣. But you're right. If there were teams who could compare to that team it's the 71 or 77 Cowboys. Always appreciate you bro!
I remember in 89 Jimmys draft order was Aikman, Stepnoski, and Daryl Johnston. When asked why did he draft players in that order he said " Its important to draft players up the middle thats where the offence starts from. Fullback pass protection, of course Akieman who orchestrates the offense and Step the person who understands the trenches better than everyone on the field
It always sticks out to me that that 92' team had no defensive players in the PB and I believe the 93' team as well.(too lazy to go look) Seems like there should have been at least one. Just throwin that out there. Great upload LC.
@@michaelleroy9281 in my opinion, neither team was better than the 92 team. Good teams but not great teams. Jimmy Johnson checked out during the 93 season. He was looking for a way out.

There’s a lot to criticize Jerry Jones about, Lord knows I’ve more than partaken in my fair share, nevertheless, his firing of Landry isn’t one of them. Jeff Pearlman’s book has a good rundown of the situation. By the late ‘80s Landry was washed up. Many if not most fans wanted him gone. As did Bum Bright the former owner of the team and former GM Tex Schramm. They’d been trying to respectfully nudge him out for a couple of seasons, but Landry wasn’t taking the hint. When Jerry bought the team the worst kept secret, if you can even call it that, was that Landry was out and Jimmy was in. Rather than accept his fate and graciously fall on his sword, Landry skipped town and had to be hunted down on a golf course. Even then Landry didn’t make it easy on Jerry and Tex, he made it as painful and uncomfortable as possible. In short, there was no way that Landry’s exit was going to be anything other than what it was, a dysfunctional, uncomfortable, chaotic divorce.
I always wondered how unstoppable that O would have been if the jimmy smith situation would have been different smith Irvin and Harper with Emmitt and novachek !! Damn!!
1) Great video as usual 2) Add up Walker's yards from scrimmage from the USFL and then add them to his NFL yards from scrimmage and then see where he ranks on the all-time list. It's very high- 3rd last I checked. 3) It was great trade, but even better was what Johnson did with trading those picks for more picks. 4) But th best thing he did was allow his staff to analyze every pick ever made in the NFL since 1967 and then sign them a value- which allowed Dallas to have a huge edge in knowing what the real value of each pick should be. (until the word got out and then every team knew).
A lot of people forget that the Rams crafted a similar deal for Eric Dickerson. Unfortunately, they blew the picks. Jimmy was so in tune with the college game because he had recruited a lot of these players. Fortunately Cleveland got in the mix for Walker when Kevin Mack got into his drug problems and was suspended. Jimmy was able to play that against Minnesota and put them against each other extracting the maximum price from Minnesota.
Love this video! Alot of memories in the corner of my mind moving to the front Only things I may have missed The trade for Charles Haley, (saw the clip when he arrived in Dallas) the unfortunate injury Mr Bill Bates suffered (torn acl I think) Yet that defense was still all time great They stamped it in the Superbowl 9turnovers (still a record) won easily 52-10 (frank reich was over the line of scrimmage on td pass) Should have been 59 but I dont blame Leon Lett the others should have been looking for anyone hustling (shout out Don Beebe)
I’m excited that you presented the facts, That Jones and Johnson came up with that value chart on Draft Picks, (used to this day) because everyone will judge a players worth, putting their bias, and will rate a player increasing a players value based on those biases instead of looking at the facts and scraping away those biases. So sick of these weekend warriors (Mel Kiper) that will take money from agents to promote the agents players. Humm I wonder who’s interest Kipers supporting.
I don't feel that Jerry should be criticized for firing Landry he told Bum Bright when he purchased the cowboys he was bringing his own head coach so Bum should have informed Tom
Now just about every NFL team is trying to copy this trade. I remember when it happened and I was thinking that it was going to end up as a disaster for the franchise. I thought that without Hershel Walker we had no chance of winning not only in the 1989 season but maybe for the next few seasons. But this is one time where the gamble paid off.
Good point! I think what those early '90s Cowboys teams did was go against the status quo. Remember Jones was an oilman before owning the Cowboys so he wasn't a part of the boy's club. Johnson was a college Coach who never coached in the NFL before. So they were not set in the traditions of the league. They thought outside of the box. Because they weren't preprogrammed to follow the rules. That was a special time bro! I don't think we will ever see that again.
1992 Cowboys were dominant enough to beat any team past, present, and future. In the modern era with rules favoring WRs and offense these teams still couldn't hold up against the speed/coverage of the 1992 Cowboys. Plus Coach Johnson motivated the Cowboys like no other coach.
Another knockout episode LC. I remember this period in Cowboys history very well. The buyout of the franchise and the sacking of the best coach in NFL history IMO. I was beyond livid. Didn't know what to think about my Cowboys or their future. Then they traded Herschel Walker!! WTH is this bunch of morons doing!!! It turned out to be one of the most genius trades in NFL history. Of course it was. It took 4 years, but what a blockbuster. Starting in 92, Dallas won 3 Superbowls in the span of 4 seasons, something never done before. It took Coach Landry longer than that when he started his tenure before they even won 1 in a row. But not taking anything away from him. The 90's belonged to the Dallas Cowboys without a doubt. We finally got our revenge on the Steelers and beat them in Superbowl XXX. Larry Brown was named MVP with 2 key interceptions. That makes Dallas have the most DEFENSIVE Superbowl MVP's in history. Chuck Howley got MVP in SB V on the losing team! Randy White and Harvey Martin were co MVP's when they demolished Denver in SB XII. Great memories of all this LC and thank you for bringing all of this flooding back into my mind. Keep the content coming!!!
Redskins fan here. Hated the Cowboys with a passion. With the last of the three SB wins under Gibbs, there was a sense of concern that the Cowboys had sprung back WAY TOO QUICKLY. I believe Michael Wilbon sounded the horn about this in a Washington Post column. Since worrying about the Cowboys was only second to rooting for my Skins, I tried to convince myself that the Cowboys were still years away from doing anything remarkable in the post season. But I knew almost immediately that I was going to be wrong. This led to some dark days for me. In fact I stopped passionately following the NFL as a result of the ridiculous speed of the Cowboys’ reemergence; I remain somewhat distant to the league to this very day. I would end up cursing Herschel Walker and the Vikings for breathing life back into that Cowboys corpse. Excellent video.
Jerry Jones unprofessionally fired Coach Landry on a golf course. Basically, Jones told Landry who'd built the franchise through winning for nearly 30 years to stay on the golf course. Coach Johnson made Dallas winners. After nearly 30 years without a Championship I tune out salesman Jones.
Surely made you proud to be a cowboy fan around 92which you have to stick with them through thick and thin. Who else out there and misses the commentators during the games. It always sounded like they were pulling for Dallas. Sometimes they actually made the game on CBS. Pat summerall and John Madden
This is all we have now, memories of greatness. At 45, I at least can say I lived through the greatest (in my opinion) era of NFL football (1984-1999). Overall sports doesn't take up my time like before, often it becomes idolatry if we're not careful. I enjoy the memories, but to know the LORD Jesus Christ is where true contentment is found. God bless you all.
Great video again !❤ I don’t know why no one has ever mentioned this I’ve been screaming this for years that D was just as good if not better than the Bears that 92 D was the best. That Team would beat anyone yea Baltimore as well ! Beat channel on the net bro ❤
I was in college when Jimmy showed up. This is hard to watch because winning is no longer a priority of Jerry. We haven't won a divisional playoff game since then. Smh.
Great video, man, as usual.. you make the most compelling interesting videos out there.. it's just THAT good.. what a time to be a cowboys fan back then.. it was so crazy.. ppl don't understand back then it took a long time to build a team because there wasn't free agency, unlike today, where you can be great 1 year and terrible the next and visa versa.. I will say free agency KILLED this dynasty.. I truly believe with all my heart Dallas wins 2 more SBs if not fir free agency.. aaaaand they 4 peat had jimmy Johnson not been fired.. that's just my opinion.. theg became too relaxed and undisciplined under Switzer.. but there's always 1 thing that gets me all these years later, is that they basically gave up on WR, Jimmy Smith. As much as I loved Alvin Harper, Jimmy Smith was one of THE best receivers of the 1990s. I know he had injuries and different things early on which led to his release, buuuuut if they could've just stuck with him, imagine a Michael Irvin Jimmy Smith duo??? How dominating would that have been, because they never adequately replaced harpers production when he went to Tampa Bay
First of all... a great post. Secondly, Jimmy Smith was our first Moss of the Jerry Jones era. If Smith didn't get injured he retires a Cowboy legend and Dallas wins in 94 vs the 49ers. Fun fact tho. We could have gotten Rocket Ismail as well. At the time the Rocket was one of the most electrifying players in College history. Rocket didn't turn out to be what Smith was. But who knew back then?
@thelogicalcowboy woooow man!! I wish I could just sit back and talk cowboys football with you, bro. Lol that would be awesome 👌 🤣🤣 but you're right we missed on jimmy Smith by prematurely letting him go in the expansion draft (I think that's what happened lol).. annnnd of course the infamous moss debacle, which I totally understand why they didn't, coming off Irvins leagal troubles in 95/96.. but Kevin Williams, although a good player, was never Alvin Harper or Jimmy Smith..
@thelogicalcowboy on a side note off subject... can you believe what quincy Carter was throwing too at one point?? Lmaooooooo Joey Galloway rocket Ismail Terry Glenn Antonio Bryant??? How's that for speed 🤣🤣🤣 jeeeees what a collection of talent nobody ever talks about you bad the team around him sucked so bad.. 🤣🤣 any ways maybe you can make a video about that 🤔 🤣
@johncollins9989 I enjoy your post bro! You always seem to make sense. But yeah I agree. Moss was a scare factor for the Jones. No way were they going to draft him. It's unfortunate tho. Have a great night bro!
Even with this trade, it's possible that they don't have a dynasty if two plays in the 1988 season go differently. In Week 1, the Cowboys were trailing the Steelers by three, and had the ball around the Steeler 5. However, Steve Pelluer didn't get the play number right, and he rolled out to the wrong side and threw an INT. Then, later in the year, the Chiefs were trailing the Steelers by six at the end of the game. On the last play, Chief WR Kittrick Taylor was wide open, but DeBerg barely overthrew him. If the Cowboys and Chiefs win those games, the Steelers would have been 1-12 going into the last three games of the season, and they probably end up with Aikman. Dallas would have had a tougher time winning titles without him (unless they end up with Favre or something, although Jimmy Johnson actually wanted to make Steve Walsh the QB).
The absolute greatest performance for all the marbles would be the 2013 SEATTLE SEAHAWKS [LOB], as they held the record setting best offense in history to just 8 points >>>>>> which wasn't scored until the final play of the 3rd quarter. NO TEAM can match what those Birds accomplished on 2/03/2014 >>> not even close!!! 🇺🇸
Dallas Cowboys fans can be some of the most petulant on the planet. I should know, I am one! 🤣I don't think there was a way to dismiss Landry without angering the fans. Also... Buddy Ryan was a classless thug.
The 92 team was a GREAT team. If you do your research, you will find that the 1977 team is the greatest team the Cowboys ever had. #1 on both offense and defense. Defensive POY. Rookie of the year. And they only gave up 25 yards net passing in three vs Super Bowl. Doomsday II at its best. The 92 team had 4 HoFers. The 77 team had 7.
Here’s something for you Logical Cowboy. The #4 factor. Roger Staubach wore the number 12(4x3=12). Troy Aikman wore #8(4x2=8). In addition to this both Quarterbacks had 88 and 80 as receivers. Dak Prescott wears #4 Jersey he has an 88 but no 80. Jerry and crew need to get a #80. In addition to this Dorsett wore the #33 while Emmitt Smith wore #22. 11 down and 4 down as far as numbers. Follow the formula and the sSuper Bowls should come.
PREACH, let them know DC4LIFE. I've been saying the same thing about the 1992 defense but you already know how that goes with all the haters and bandwagons. You, Me, Us and Never Them We Are DCmob💯🏈 Oh yeah I almost forgot....EAGLES SUCK🖕
Such a great channel but there’s always distracting errors. Such as the generated headline “COWBOYS BUYER HIRES A NEW CONCH”! Lol. That would explain the 1-15 season. Fantastic videos you just need better editing. Let someone else check it for you first
I hear ya, man. I've been struggling to find an editor that's affordable. I really put in the effort with these videos, haha. I try to double-check everything after I'm done, but yeah, I'm no expert. I end up missing stuff that a pro wouldn't miss. Just trying to find someone decently priced, you know? Thanks for the input, bro. If you've got any more suggestions, let me know!
Jerry made this happen.. Herschel was gonna retire and wasn't trying to go to Minnesota.. Look at how dumb our fanbase was even back then.. Speaking of dumb.. Herschel Walker is one of the dumbest people in the history of human civilization.. He should have never ran for public office and exposed himself like he did..
It has been so long since the Cowboys have won a playoff game you have to go and post a video highlighting their past glory. But I ask what have they done lately the COWBOYS are the most overrated hyped team by the media ever . Just watch espn all they do is talk about the cowboys whe they should be talking about the Chiefs instead
Jerry Jones needs to fire his G.M. Wait, what? Oh Jerry Jones is his own GM. What has he done since he let Jimmy Johnson go. Short answer, nothing. Fuck the Cowboys! Overrated.
