I have a similar farm and have taken a drone overhead photo of the entire outline of the farm. I have used Google Earth to map elevations of the key drainage areas and the measure tool to compute distances of atv trails. The human brain loves a Picture to logically relate the key elements , such as ponds, tent, trails, distances, streams and problem areas. We enjoy seeing the bigger elements of your homestead. There are more features than the area surrounding your immediate buildings. Great job with the videos and education.
if you can use photoshop or something you can put together a really large image.. places like officedepot will print you a 40x60 inch color poster for $55 or a smaller one for less.. I am sure there are other places too maybe better ones like a local sign shop or architect service but... not sure how big that file would be.. probably pretty big at high resolution. you'd have to check the resolution of the printer too.. but might be nice on the wall if the quality is good.

Something to think about Al & Gina is having your own fruit orchard. The older folks (great grands) would fence off a small section of land to keep the animals out and to protect the trees. I think if you haven't already planted some fruit trees do your research now and find out whats good in your zone. Also, not all trees are self pollinators so, another tree may be necessary just to get fruit off the main tree. It can get complicated but, having your own non GMO apples and or cherries may be a good thing. Build that root cellar and store a barrel of apple cider also. Plenty of space on your homestead to plant some evergreens also. Time to bush hog those trails before winter sets in.

I switched to an Ebike last fall after my bad knees couldn't take inclines any more. I have both an 27.5" MTB and a 20" folding fat-tire. Both are a hoot to ride, especially the 20 incher.

I was talking with my Canadian Cousin who lives out in the sticks said when they go out checking out their trails after excessive rain they have their side-by-side fitted with the snow tracks as it spreads out the weight better to prevent damage to the ground and possible culvert damaged areas.
@@ruthanderson1758 I know that, but my cousin has 40 acres of land and she’s had 7”+ of rain and vast areas have been damaged by the rainstorms so they swapped out to the tracks so they would do less damage to the land.

Hi Al and Gina. I have quite a big garden here in England. The fruit trees are usually very good but this year we only have apples. Damsons, Victoria plums, yellow plums and greengages have almost nothing at all. I also noticed I don’t get nearly as many insect bites. There is almost nothing flying. Have you noticed the rapid change where you are?
Athought about stocking your pond for fish when i was about 6 or 7 my father built a pond when i was about 9 for 3 week ends we went to different small streams like AL has we caught minnows (saned with a net on 2 poles about 5 or 6 feet long) put the minnows in a 5 gallon bucket took the bucket to the truck that had a 55 gallon barel on we poured the minnows in to and dumped them into it the pond I am 66 now and my grand kids still catch fish out of the pond to this day.

If you purchase a Garmin GPS device, you can start a track with the unit and it will allow you to save a trek along that you can save, download to a pc and print, so you have a map of your trails. It will save distances, elevation changes, etc. Very useful in the wild
Looks like the trail maintenance team needs to get busy. Lot's of mowing to do. Al you'll have to teach Gina or Olivia how to when your busy. Team work makes it dream work. There is where you can use all the rocks . To slow down the flow at the culverts and bridges.🤔😀
lunch, when i was working the back lands. it was beans. and beans yea and beans and maybe coffee. anything else the wild life would eat it. crows and other birds took the beans out.
The tent surprised me. I could’ve bet that you’d find it all downstream! Be careful on the e-bike. One of my friends wiped out on his, and he lost a couple of teeth and looked like he lost a bar fight.
The remnants of Debbie hit our area HARD. Our area (Upstate NY) had over 100 roads damaged, with several destroyed, 2 bridges washed away, one house washed away, and our own driveway was destroyed at the culvert where a small creek flows under it. The sheer volume of water flowing over it was tremendous. I was lucky and went outside just after the rain ended and got good videos of the flooding. The creek is generally just a few feet wide at most, but was over 60 feet wide in places. The noise was incredible (which is what caught my attention in the first place), so I KNEW our drive was a goner. When I got down to it, it was washing out, and after the flooding subsided, it had dug out a 5 or 6 foot gully around my TWO 24 inch pipes. I uploaded the videos of the flooding and the partial repairs we did the next morning. I've still got some work left, and the road fabric just came in yesterday so we can finish it up. If you want to see the damage and repair, I've uploaded them to our channel. Hope YOU made it through okay! You're just to the east of us.......
This is unusual..... Good evening y'all, I have been busy dealing with my wife's, health problems. Overall I have to agree with Al, not too much damage. With me being in a hurricane state I definitely have seen a lot worse, with less rain. I love seeing the "trails" again.
You really need a regular bush hog to mow the road and fields with. You can use the flail mower to do just the sides to keep the vegetation from encroaching closer to the road.

It is amazing how much you and Gina remember all that wooded land. I am so lost in the tall grass and trees. If I lived there, I would have to be dropping bread crumbs wherever I went...and you can imagine how long they would last. Glad there was no major damage for you to have to fix. The Dam washing-out was a blessing in disguise, it did cause the Culvert to wash away, ( not ideal ) but that collection of water was unneeded and now can return to potential usefulness ! Goal now is to Not let Beavers rebuild that Dam, cause the Beavers cut down trees and flooding kills trees !

Hey Al, my cats do that too when we go for a walk. One cat walks in front of my feet and another lays right down in front of me and wants to play. It is hard due to a cane and a full TLSO back brace, but I can't resist playing with them.

My friend has a Great Pyrenees and he takes off like a shot! He's a great runner. He tries to supervise the whole 40 acres around his home. His home is 11 acres and it just doesn't seem like enough to patrol for him. Have a great week!
