Saw the Damned on August 26th 2016 in Dublin, I'll never forget it. They sounded amazing, they had such energy and were so into it. Dave even came down to me at the front row and get me to say the iconic starting line of New Rose. He wandered through the crowd during the intro to Smash It Up as well and I got to shake his hand. Amazing night. My favourite band.
I'm really surprised how much he has grown as a guitarist. Strated out on the bass, but never got my attention back then. Must have been woodshedding a lot.
@@harvey1954 I first saw The Captain playing guitar when the band played as The Doomed at The Factory in Manchester in early 1979 just before they were legally able to use The Damned name again and of course went onto record Machine Gun Etiquette that year. I was blown away by the quality of his playing and thought " blimey he's kept that quiet" He's has gone on to be, in my opinion, certainly one of the best of the Punk generation if not any era and indeed massively underrated. He is top class player with great energy switching between rhythm and lead effortlessly.
They did a lot more tracks I would have loved to have got, but didn't want to piss people off behind me. Can't see there being many gigs now what with covid, always gonna be there.
The black album . Seguls .double album .my brother bought it for me as a birthday gift. It was my last year at school I was 14 I would walk 2 mile every day at lunch time to listen to it at home. I hated school this was my education I'm 54 live in the sunny south of france because this band gave me some inspiration not school.
They are just still an amazing band. I have grown old with them and The Stranglers and they still send shivers down my spine 40 years later and Paul Gray and Barry masters doing do anything just brilliant. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure. Unfortunately if the EU Parliament get their way with passing Article 13, all this stuff will be gone from RU-vid. Our internet will he like north Korea, China, and Iran. Fuck the EU Parliament!
If you could discern his bass a tad better it would help the over all sound, it's not bad just not that prominent and The Damned sound amazing with a prominent Bass sound. My example for this is Jon Priestley's Gallien Kruger rig, Paul Gray's bass gets washed out too much and I think that has a lot to do with his Ampeg rig.
Un final de folie!! Eddy and the hot rods. Mince , je viens de réaliser que Paul Gray avait joué avec eux et que j'adorais déjà son jeu et le son de sa basse , une rickenbaker . Merci et hommage à Brian Master qui est mort depuis. Krik

@@PunkLiveInLondon You're welcome, mate, thanks for the excellent 'Damned' video. It was great to hear tracks such as, 'Lively Arts', 'Ignite' and 'Generals' being played live and then having Barry coming on and joining the lads for the encore was top class.
@@wolfenstein6676 I would love to have got more tracks, but was concerned I was pissing people off behind me. I love the Strawberries 🍓 album y'see. 🙂👍 Cheers.
I'd like to mention another English bloke named Dave Greenfield of the stranglers he passed away March 3rd I believe of the coronavirus, he will be missed!
Great!! Paul seems to be trying to dance like Jimmy Page but his steps are not in time to any of the songs! (His bass guitarism is wonderful, though!) Dave Vanian forever! ;[
