I'm a nostalgic dude myself. Andy Griffith Lucy show, the Beverly hillbillies, Petticoat Junction are some of my favorites.

And, before that, "THE DEFENDERS" (1961-'65).

That was the general idea. Danny originally auditioned Mary Tyler Moore to be "Terry" that season- but told her, "With a nose like yours, nobody would believe you're my daughter." He *DID* remember her when he suggested to Carl Reiner she'd be perfect for the role of "Laura Petrie" on "THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW".

What’s funny is that they went to all that effort to recast, but they married her off after 14 episodes and we never saw Penney Parker again. Sherry Jackson came back for one more episode in 1970 to help launch the revival.

Danny had hoped she and Pat Harrington would "take over" the series {following Terry's marriage to Pat at the end of that season}, so that he'd be able to appear occasionally with the rest of the cast- but General Foods, his sponsor [and CBS], insisted he continue full-time......so Terry and Pat "disappeared"-- never to be seen again.

Not surprising, as Charles Stewart- who-co-wrote this episode- later served as executive producer and head writer of "PETTICOAT JUNCTION".....and also wrote "Is This My Daughter?" {September 9, 1967}.

I Love Lucy has more timeless comedy with a better cast and wittier writing, as well as Ball’s physical comedy. The Danny Thomas Show is more of a “warmedy” - with more gooey sentimental moments. The Kathy character isn’t terribly likable - kind of a pampered, sanctimonious goody two shoes (she was better in the early episodes when she was first introduced). And the acting from the kids is not always the best.

I liked them both. I don't know how these got released but I believe Marlo Thomas had something to do with it. I always loved Danny Thomas.

@Jared Linden Don't get me wrong. I Love Lucy's classic. And I. Have to? Push back on what you said about the kids. Rusty and Linda, I thought they're writing for those two kids. were excellent Angela Cardwright was a Scene stealer. Truth be told, make room for Daddy, is a different kind of show than I love Lucy. But they're all under the. Desiilu productions studio umbrella. When I was a kid back in the late sixties early seventies. I watched reruns. There are a lot of episodes. I still have not seen it. So it's good that RU-vid Allows it on their platform.

@@erickthefantabulous1 There is no right answer! Interesting to hear other opinions. Just an FYI - while Danny Thomas rented studio space from Desilu, Desilu itself had no ownership in the show or creative input. The actual shows produced by Desilu say “A Desilu Production” at the end, while those that just rented studio space said “Filmed by Desilu”. By the early 60s, I think there were far more shows filmed by Desilu than actually produced by them.
