I wish we'd have found out that the father had previously sold his soul, or had a flower bed of dead children on the property. I mean why was this hard working farmers soul so important to the devil?

Seems like the devil wounded the father and then picked off those who came to help him, turning one target into a half dozen. Maybe had nothing to do with "love".

This was one of the best horror movies I have seen in a long time. Watched it after your review... and it did not detract at all. Director, cast, cinematography were all simply jarring / haunting. Loved it!

So in the end the daughter is the only one seen really being attacked by the entity, because as her father died so did the only soul left in the world who loved her. As soon as he died, she was truly alone and unloved, and that is what the entity needed the whole time.

I'm not Christian, but I can see quite a few religious metaphors in here. The siblings and their mother start out as nonbelievers, not believing they need any spiritual assistance. But as the priest says, just because you don't believe in something doesn't mean it won't come for you, something they realize too late. The mother starts buying crosses frantically in hopes of salvation, but it isn't enough to save her. Before this she tries to tell her children not to come, but they don't listen, maybe a metaphor for people not listening to Jesus's warnings. After the diabolical presence becomes clear, the focus shifts from believing in it to remaining faithful. The nurse tells them that one of the worst things they could do to their father is allow him to die alone. Yet this is exactly what they do- Michael abandons them straight out, and Louise stumbles out of the house just long enough for their father to expire without her by his side. This could represent people trying to save their own skin in the face of evil instead of remaining true to God. Both of them are killed for this, in Louise's case after hearing Michael's agonized voice, presumably from his punishment in hell, and her mother singing a song about Jesus's love, something she failed to value in her ordeal and ultimately pays the price for. Other metaphors might include (I'm pulling stuff out of my ass here: -The priest is standing outside and they rip out the phone from the wall, thinking that it's the work of the devil, when in reality it's Charlie. This represents how when faced with evil, people will often turn away help from God in fear, thinking that He is one of them. -The siblings want to bring their father "somewhere safe," but the doctor refuses to unplug him. This could represent how people think that they need to "protect" or "save" God, when in reality all they need to do is stay with him. -The real priest is far away and had a daughter named Louise who killed herself. This might represent how God's son died, and he doesn't want others to suffer the same fate. -The nurse says that although all the siblings see in death is sorrow, she sees a lot of love. This love could have saved them, as well as their mother, but they couldn't see it. - The one goat that survives the massacre has one leg. Jesus said "If your foot leads you astray, cut it off, lest it lead you into hell." Naturally, the other goats are thrown into a fire like dry twigs, also a bible reference. -The lamb is probably also Jesus, or maybe just the last glimmer of hope in their situations, and Michael says that he will work hard to protect it. He forgets that, of course, and dies for it.

The reason the dad lived so long was because he was loved. Everyone showed up because,to at least some degree, they loved their dad. So until the end, when the daughters love for her dad died with him, he was protected. The devil guy simply lingered nearby, waiting for the family to fall to dispair, so he can claim them. He could also claim the dad's, as the daughter's love ended with his death. When what should have happened is that she keeps loving and mourning her now passed father. But she didnt.

Really enjoyed it. Slow paced but gets build up. Simple but very dark with such depressing energy (due to their grieving). This is kind of those horror movies that feels real in terms of the circumstance given, like your mind can play tricks. If the devil is real then this is one good portrayal of it. Makes you think suicide is definitely devil’s work.

I remember watching this at the movie theater the night it came out. The shower scene, the scene where Charlie committed suicide and the scene with the nurse had me trembling lol.

I wish RU-vid would give me the information on how long I've been a subscriber to Foundflix. I feel like it's been a few years or maybe longer. Lol. They should do subscriber anniversaries since it's because of us these channels keep running.

Ya know, in any horror movie where the house/land/structure is possessed or haunted I don't understand why the protagonists don't just burn the place to the ground. I mean, yeah it's a movie so they gotta do the dumb thing, but imo fire will solve most of these situations. Also, for anybody who plays D&D this has ALL the hallmarks of a Sorrowsworn Demon.

this had the style of hereditary.. a slow burn effectively creepy flick that gets under your skin..and same with the shadows stuff..u can miss things in the background first time...but also like the trauma demon from smile

My theory is that these people may be suicide victims who are trapped in a purgatory to relive their sins. Unaliving oneself is considered a mortal sin in some religions, and is the theme of all the deaths here. It would also explain the strange phone call about the daughter by the same name who committed suicide - I’m guessing that she is that person, and just doesn’t remember. Maybe this is just a specific circle of hell like in Dante’s Inferno, in which case “the dark and the wicked” refers to all the people caught in it, until they confront what they did. Hopefully doing so will release them eventually.

This is by far the best horror flick I’ve seen in recent memory. I’m not easy to scare and the devil isn’t something I’m afraid of, but something about that movie stuck with me after and i had to calm down after watching lmao

You should check out mercy on Amazon prime it's really grim it was originally on Netflix but switched to prime it's about a mom two brothers taking care of their grandma

Movie execs: we call it “ *The Dark* “ Other movie execs: That’s not enough Ok how about *The dark* AND *The wicked* .

Would have been a great end credit scene if the brother was shown in a hospital bed having survived his attempted suicide but was in a coma like the father. His wife watching over him from a chair and in the background they show the priest, out of frame, steering into the room from just outside the door.

Very powerful line that stuck with me from this one. “You don’t need to believe in the wolf for it to find you in the middle of the woods” It was a religious metaphor and it really got to me

If you are in a Devil occupied house, and the only reason you are there is to watch a dying relative, you should just ditch their ass and save your own
