So in regards to audio Nolan has gone on record saying he intentionally has the audio mixing be imperfect when it comes to dialogue. Why? He has not given a reason. Which is hilarious to me.
I remember reading an interview somewhere after Interstellar came out where he said it's not important to him. He felt audiences get more context from the visuals and characters' body language/reactions. Anyone else remember this? Still, I do not understand why he doesn't fix this. Tenet had the EXACT same problem.
@@gwagstaff8423 the IMAX cameras are super loud when they are running. They had to boost the actions scenes audio which contrasted poorly with dialogue scenes.
InReview should have a 20-30min. segment, where you just let Nick complain and nitpick every little thing to get it out of his system. Sorry Nick, but it's just TIRESOME to listen to you complain for 2 hours about so many non-essential little details. The KFcrew should talk to him about that, because we all know that he doesn't read the comments on YT or reddit. It just brings the whole energy down. Look at Greg and Tims face at 1:19:35. Thats how I felt 90% of the time Nick started complaining. The movie has a lot of flaws (a little overhyped imo), but does way more right than wrong.
They got the oscar thing wrong. The 2008 oscars were for movies from 2007. The film would’ve been nominated for the 2009 oscars (where Ledger won), in which Slumdog Millionaire won best picture
tim is a little off at the start, ledger won best supporting actor, phoenix won best actor, which was a feat also accomplished by de niro and brando for the role of don corleone
I'm surprised they didn't mention more about Cillian Murphy in that small beginning scene. Especially the exchange they had. Batman "I don't need help." Scarecrow "Not my diagnosis." Its such a small moment, but it was so damn good.
A crime drama that just so happens to have Batman as its central character. I still love it, over a decade later. As someone who grew up with the 90s era of the Batman movies and the animated series, “Dark Knight” still remains my favorite Batman movie, and is still one of my most memorable movie-going experiences.
So... Nick hates one of his top 10 favorite movies? Totally get that after watching a movie a bunch of times that you can pick it apart but holy cow it seems like he had an issue with every other scene. Love y’all and your content helps me daily ❤️ just my opinion from this review
They weren’t even talking about No Country. They said it was There Will Be Blood. Nick messed up by saying No Country. So, they were all kinds of wrong, lol:
@@hoemalone lol. Just watched it, and he still messed up talking about the dates, trying to correct himself. Saying it doesn’t make sense bc Slumdog came out in 2008, which TDK also did.
One of my favorite moments is when Batman is about to save the hostages in the Pruitt building at the end and Gordon says "Dent is in there with them. We have to save Dent. I have to save Dent!". And then Batman jumps of the building. Such an epic emotional moment. I love this movie. Thanks for bringing back the plot! I can start looking forward to every In Review again.
Jesus... Nick is a legit downer. You don't have to love every second, but it felt like he was trying to be a bummer! Love the review though! Love all you crazy boys!
Nick got a little too nit picky with this one. Kind of got annoying.like he was just looking for things to dislike And everytime he said something wasn't very batmany, it totally was. Batman doesn't just sneak everywhere. That nightclub is lifted directly from the comics. And the scarecrow scene functioned to me like a cold open with batman just being batman
Fantastic movie. Ledger is incredible. Some of the unnamed side characters are shockingly bad at acting, and some of the side diologue is cheesy as hell. The sound is also very weird. But Bale is great, lesser is great, Oldman is badass, and Dent (I forget actor's name) is such a compelling character. Ending is still a bit weird to me though.
Having never seen any of The Dark Knight movies before now, I can see why this movie is so highly regarded. This movie was clearly an inspiration for practically every interpretation in popular media that came after.
I love this show and I’m glad you’re listening to fans. That said, I’m having trouble with this one due to Nick. I feel like he dominates the convo with his nitpicks. I just wish he’d pick his battles a bit more and only bring up the ones that he thinks legit hurt the film. I wanted to hear a celebration of this film. I’m 1.5 hours in and I just feel dragged down a bit.
This was one of the first movies I watched (as a young person), where it felt like everyone working on this movie was inspired and trying to do something special.
Nick has done nothing but hype this movie for YEARS! And when he finally does an in review for it, he does nothing but nit pick it. Oh nick, I just want you to be happy.
My favourite movie of all time. Changed my life when I saw it. As soon as I walked out the cinema, I knew I wanted to pursue something movie-related as a career. Flash-forward 12 years and I'm a writer/video editor for a movie site. GET IN. Can't wait to watch it in GLORIOUS 4K for the first time when my PS5 arrives!
Slumdog Millionaire won best picture the year this would be nominated. Love these guys but its frustrating how much they get wrong while speaking with authority.
The thing that got me is that while I had seen the Batman cartoons and Burton/Schumacher films it had been 10 years since and I was a kid so didn't remember any Gillian's alter egos. I had NO IDEA going into the movie that Harvey Dent was the Two Face. So it blew me away when we see Dent in the hospital bed and turns showing he's half burnt.
Hard disagree. While its definitely the best comic book movie, its Ironman that actually changed the game and made the genre mainstream. No other superhero movie tried to be like The Dark Knight until Joker (11 years later)
@@rakino4418 He made two BAD movies that have nothing to do with the Dark Knight except being "darker" visually. DK is special because it feels somewhat realistic and gritty. NOTHING about BvS or Justice League is realistic or gritty. Joker is the only "superhero" movie that tries to be realistiv and gritty and actually succeeded at both.
@@X5J2UY I believe iron man changed how everyone looked at marvel films up to that point, dark knight was the movie that made everyone taking comic book films serious and not just kids films. So much the heads of iron man 2 and mcu said they wanted their dark knight. Changing the game.
@@dee85ist There wasn't even the concept of "marvel" films before. Hulk was just some superhero movie and spiderman was its own franchise. DK is more considered a Nolan movie than a comicbook movie. Everyone talked about Joker after that movie, not the genre itself. Ironman was definitely the superhero movie that made the genre mainstream and slowly replaced the classic action movie. DK is a great movie, but didn't do much for comic book movies.
The comments about Nick are surprising, is this the first kinda funny review you’ve ever seen? Nick is always harder on movies he loves, doesn’t mean he doesn’t like the movie he just analyzes it harder than any other movie.
I am one of the many who was not keen on Heath Ledger as the Joker, I wanted someone thin and creepy like Crispin Glover. However, of course I was very happy to be proven wrong, his performance was extraordinary, and he earned that Oscar for sure. Cracking film all round. And THAT opening, talk about setting the scene and the style for the whole film!
Tim's "fact" about Joker being the only character to win two Oscars for Best Actor is incorrect. For one, Heath Ledger won "Best Supporting Actor" for The Dark Knight (Joaquin Phoenix did however win "Best Actor" for Joker). Secondly, the character of Vito Corleone from The Godfather franchise has also won two Oscars; Marlon Brando won Best Actor in The Godfather for playing Vito, and Robert De Niro won Best Supporting Actor for playing a young Vito in Godfather part II. Love you guys, but you're wrong.
Greg mentioned Spiderman 2 in this review, so I went back and watched that review and Greg does a whole plot synopsis of Sliders haha. I love this show!
Awwwwww shit Unequivocally, undoubtedly the best batman movie. And ironically its not cuz of batman. Heath Ledger didn't kill it he murdered the role to where no one else will ever come close Guess there's no pleasing everyone. But damn man, I won't get to find out the rankings.
Vito Corleone is a character that got multiple Oscars for different portrayals by different actors. Marlon Brando in Godfather 1, Robert De Niro in Godfather 2

Disappointing that they talked a lot about Gotham’s look in the previous movies but make no comment about Gotham in this. Chicago plays the part of Gotham perfectly.
They should change these reviews to “Nick shits on everything” his criticisms are so far reaching and this is a movie he considers one of the best ever made. 🤦🏽♂️
I thought Andy was incredibly nit picky, the goons voices, the joker opening "...makes you stranger" line and the fact he mixed up two black actors without googling it first. smh
The depiction of Batman is nifty in Batman Begins - introducing him through the eyes of the baddies he's sneaking up on gives you that fearful impression. But that's what Batman Begins was about. It was important that they hammer that home in that movie. Dark Knight is more of a western, more along the lines of The Good the Bad and the Ugly.
This one's a classic, in large part thanks to Heath Ledger. Hard disagree that it should've won Best Picture though. No Country For Old Men hit that year and was a much better movie that coincidentally carried a lot of the same themes. It takes civility/law and natural forces and gives you a nice triangle of outlooks between the characters in respect to how they appeal (or don't appeal) to those things. Beautifully shot (especially those IMAX shots - a bit of an Interstellar situation with the 4K disc where the IMAX shots pop up sporadically and stick out for being exponentially sharper than everything else) and the score is really eerie and restrained. I think Batman Begins is like one big montage with how little room the scenes are given to breathe and how persistent the score is. This movie however establishes settings and characters before they start interacting, dropping music in sparingly by comparison allowing for talents like Heath to really sell what's happening. It's rare for Nolan to get such a captivating performance out of his cast, but scenes from this movie have really stuck with me over time. "You wanna know how I got these scars?" "No, I'm not" "In people's last moments, they show you who they really are..." Great dialogue, legendary performance. Love it, love it, love it!
Did anyone else think it was weird that when batman is in wayne enterprises giving Lucius Fox the phone monitor wall of screens, he talked to Lucius in his batman voice, even though Lucius knows he is Bruce Wayne
Aw man, bad time for this to go up in the UK, going to have to wait till after work for this one. Just came here to say the run time on this already pleases me greatly, so looking forward to this bad boy!!
I feel like Harvey just woke up and I'm going to assume things became more clear as he regained consciousness, so that's why he didn't recognize joker immediately until he removes the mask. I feel like it just makes sense if things are blurry when you first wake up? I've always felt it's a bit of a reach when people say "it makes absolutely no sense". I think it does. It's definitely for dramatic effect, but I still think it's in the realm of making sense.
I love nick but my god this episode was hard to listen to sometimes, for someone who claims this in their top 10 movies of all time it sure sounds like he hates every part of it
