Each year hundreds of children die from drowning in pits filled with water that were constructed by the Sand Mining Industry in Nepal. Most of which don’t have proper license or don’t follow any regulation. Whenever someone questions or tries to speak against them, they are either killed or made silent forever. All this for some extra sand. So, What makes Sand Mafia so powerful and why is Illegal Sand so important?

Thank you for your bravery to research and speak about this issue. It really shed light to an overlooked topic that needs much attention and highlight. The control of our country, future is in hands of some lunatics and they are putting many people and the future at risk due to their greed , short term gain and most of all their ignorance. More people should speak up and become more active, and not sit back and watch in a dormant manner thinking it's someone else's job to fix it.

Dilip Mahato was the only guy from which this issue got ignited but he raised this issue to stop it.But its now there is also good co operation between local leaders and miners. We donot need people like Dilip we should be like him .I think many of us know these people exploiting in another level and these mafia could do anything like what they did to dilip. And these mafia are really growing their roots in politics.

Man!! Thanks for this information. I live in Rajapur Bardiya by the river Karnali, and we have witnessed sand mining on an unprecedented scale. The results are visible; the water level is up even near the bank. Although floods are common in my region, these days they have a significant impact. loss of biodiversity near the river. The list goes on. Even the most horrifying fact is death has been reported because of the pit that you mentioned in your video.

Yeah this might be the huge problematic situation in near future if the sand mining goes on the same way . So we can't ignore this . As a youth of the country and being a responsible citizen we all should share this problem ,let the issues reach to the government. Personally I am expecting for the positive feedback in near days 🙂

Truly outstanding informative video. I have been aware of Sand Mafia in India, recently I have had a chance for traveling around Nepal and I was truly shocked how many sand mines are there in every river. I highly doubt these are legal, but like you said any voice of concern is quickly shutdown or it might be dangerous to even speak against these. Until enough people are educated and if only we decide to act then these might stop. But for now this will go on.
