Looks to me like there’s still attachments for clips on the heat sink so you’d probably be able to use a standard fan of you wanted. But other than that I do agree. I prefer non-proprietary tech everywhere.
@@sooperspeedy False. What you actually meant to say was: _"I’d rather just have a dual tower that takes two standard 140s even if it performed slightly better"_
@@andrewvirtue5048 what i’d actually like from be quiet is a real competitor to the nh-u12a. A thicc single tower with a silent wings pro 4 fan that doesn’t cost $130 would be nice.
@@vincentvega3093 for the peerless assassin and phantom spirit, it can only fit 2x120mm fans. So get 2 p12 max. For the frost spirit and frost commander, they can fit 1 140mm and 1 120mm, so get a P14 PWM and a P12 max.
The only thing that baffles me is why they keep creating a third fan diameter for the coolers. Not only would the 140 mm outperform the 135mm, but this design also complicates the manufacturing process and drastically limits the customization potential. If the cooler came with standard fans, I'd definitely replace them with the Pro variants.
It's annoying but I'm sure cooler height has something to do with it. They don't want to put a 120 in the middle and this cooler is already about 5mm from not being able to be used in most compact ATX cases.
170$(in Norway) for an Air cooler and proprietary fans. No thanks. I'll keep mine Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 black and save 100'ish $ for upgrading CPU or GPU. Good video btw. Only one thing. What is your dBA above floor value? 30-35dBA?
I appreciate you using the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X as that's the CPU in my PC and it has a notorious reputation for being quite toasty to cool. I'm using the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 but air cooling is what I started off with and prefer it so I'm definitely interested in both the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Elite and Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5. 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Cheers. Yup, it’s a good chip to test as it’s thermally dense and still has a moderate high level of power draw. I think you will see similar performance to your 280.
Pretty wild how large coolers are getting to handle these reactor heat level CPUs. I do appreciate that they are substantial and fill out cases to help with visual esthetics/balance.
I saw another large channel review these coolers and while it performed fairly well on LGA1700, they were not very good on AM5 and were outperformed by ak620, Fuma 3, and the many thermalright towers. Apparently it seems to have to do with tbe contact with the IHS being at the center of the coldplate. They should have offered an offset bracket like noctua Something to consider when shopping for am5 cooling
Question about the mounting hardware. Did bequiet see fit to include offset mounting for AM5 CPUs? Both Noctua and Arctic have started doing so. If bequiet has not then it's a major missed opportunity.
Finally building a itx case. What power supply company are you using. I thinking cooler master or corsair. I watched your video and i was mixed in them. What ever you use I’ll be getting.
ah yes, you're measuring above your ambient noise, but someone with a better environment will be perfectly aware how loud these get at such a high speeds
Test it with the Ryzen 7000 series and you will see that this cooler work well. I ve a 7800x3d in gaming I has 78 to 80 C°, chaned it to kraken 360 and went down to 58 to 62 C°. I wnated to se it how the DarkPro work with my old Ryzen 3600 and wow works well with it. But realy dont buy a DarkRock5 or Elite for the Ryzen 7000 series. At least i find it strange that all tester are using old AMD CPUs to have great performence.
I prefer the sound emitted (if this is the right verb) by the Dark Rock Pro 5. I presume the DR Pro 5 would be able to cool the "new" 14700K... what are your thoughts? All comments appreciated 😊
Hi thanks for the good video, I´m thinking to upgrade to the Dark Rock Pro 5 and I have a 5800X. I have only 1 fan header for cpu cooler, do I need a fan splitter or can you connect both on 1 header? Grettings from Germany Lau :)
The coldplate is excellent so that's the key thing there. For the little power that the 7800X3d draws you can probably get away with fan speeds at 800-900 RPM max.
Nice treatment of these. I am a Be Quiet user and while they are definitely better than most in terms of sound, air coolers still tend to be louder in general than AIOs which has definitely caused me to migrate away for some builds. I will check out the Elite though.
Testing on 5800x is kinda a joke for such coolers & especially comparing performance. Pretty sure no offset mounting gonna push d15 far ahead on those cpus & it anyways probably will perform better than this without them. Not to mention the updated d15 will smoke this & everything else for next 10yrs & no proprietary fans & far better 140mm fans too. Plus the great support.
