Dude. This was eye-opening and makes me appreciate my local restaurants all the more. I guess one of the motivators is that you have to love it, huh? Good on you, dude!

Born into the restaurant industry myself. Now a proud owner 3 year old restaurant. I feel tired and burnt out but I have so much more in the tank. It’s not meant for a lot of people but I actually enjoy it at times. Mix emotions but I know I’m meant for this grind. Just opened my second shop!!!

Appreciate the transparency. I usually tell people I like- unless they’re passionate about F&B, don’t do it. People I don’t care for- I tell them “good luck” :)

Recently I was looking in to opening a ghost kitchen. At the end of the day I have learned that you still have to work 80 hours/week to make a decent living wage. Its a lot of work and in food industry you have to love what you are doing as a business owner. Thank you for your honesty! 👍 Cheers.

As a chef myself. To be owner and operator you must be built different and be able to handle the demand. If you thrive on high demand and can excel in the chaos one will succeed.

Mom and Pop shops are a dying breed because of these reasons. On the flip side why do chain restaurants excel when they have all the same problems? Its called systems, most locally owned restaurants don't know how to build and implement the right systems. This guy needs to remove himself from the business and look at opening a couple more locations, the profits generated from 3 locations vs 1 will give him the stability he needs and remove a lot of stress. Only the right systems will allow him to do this (it takes a ton more work). I've been there, I know how hard it is, I left the industry after being burnt out, but I learned from it, came back proved the system works and never looked back. Good luck to you Kostas!

Big chains work because they are funded by big banks who throw vast amounts of money at them. First reason is to crush the mom and pop stores. Secondly, no matter how many big chain locations fail, they will never go bankrupt because the banks will throw money at them to keep the system going. How many mon and pop businesses are capable of doing that? Dennys restaurant has not turned a profit for more than 10 years, and they have hundreds of locations. You can't tell me the investors are broke and doing it as a charity service.

It can get better once you create policies and procedures and can generate enough money to pay for management but yeah at the end of the day the buck stops with you.

Cops…truckers…chefs…all pretty much the same. I am still young and confused. Think sales is a decent option. Even if one doesn’t make a fortune, salesmen don’t have such miserable life. Yeah they have their ups and downs but comparatively it’s much much smarter choice, at of the day apart from all the passion bs people believe in mans just gotta work to make enough money to live comfortably.
