They might look like just some cool dude exploring RU-vid for blogging, but they are shrewd businesspeople, with all the cynical marketing tools at their disposal. E.g. if they do a raffle, expect them to be cheating. If they use a comment random picker, that doesn't mean they don't add a filter list configured to their liking. The corporate crap we see plaguing the internet, they often do it all, too.

I guess it’s about perspective because if I were homeless I’d just be happy that someone gave me $100 not griping about the fact that someone else made more money off of it. That $100 could feed me for quite a while if I stretched it out. Sure it’d be nice if someone gave me more but as a homeless person I wouldn’t rather $0 over $100 just because someone else made more off of it lol.

A little bit related to the video, the man on the right side in the thumbnail is actually a fairly popular and mysterious figure. He was the face actor of Eli Vance from the video game series Half Life. The creators of the game pulled ordinary people to do face acting jobs. One of these people was the person in that thumbnail. His last known appearance was about 20 years ago, around the same time the games released. Nobody knows if he's dead or alive, or if he's doing well or not. As far as most can tell, that is the only known record of his face to ever exist. Nobody knows what his name is either. He just kind of vanished after that.

a "fraction" to the charity isn't what they want sadly, they will want a MUCH bigger portion of the finances if they choose to work with one of these RU-vidrs. Most charities will claim that they know how to properly distribute the finances and unless they have a lot of control over it they wont be part of it. Finding a good, local charity will often help even more than the big ones.

The best charity youtubers are the ones who give jobs and follow up with the same people to make sure they're on a good track. Giving cash or expensive supplies makes them bigger targets for theft and assault. And absurd amounts of money when you don't know someone's story means it could literally just end up going into drugs and alcohol.

I ran charities for many years. Feeding stray dogs in Thailand. Getting them neutered and spayed. I'm poor. Collected toys/clothes/books/etc for kids and people living in poverty.. For the first few years I never posted online but just asked people at local restaurants and bars to donate. Didn't get much. After throwing a donation party people asked me to post and share. I was reluctant. After I did we got hundreds of people donating stuff. Their time. Cars and transport. We started getting so much that we had to get people to donate space to store all the donations. I see both sides of it.

good on you mate. i make sure that i try to help regarding a deeper cause, there was a homeless woman near my home, i didnt shove a camera in her face or just throw 1000 bucks at her, i helped her with some neat and clean clothes, paid for her to get a shower, a hot meal and sat down and talked in a small cafe about what happend etc, then i hooked her up with an ngo so that she has a place to sleep at night. because of this she got an hourly job at kfc!! mainly companies dont give jobs to homless ppl since they arent clean and dont have a def place to stay but now she can work because she has a place to stay at night at a homeless shelter and she is neat and well dressed when she shows up. i rarely talk or tell pplp about this because i dont like to make myself good beacuse i did this lol, i just did it to help her period. and the best part is it barely cost me any money, it was around 80 bucks i think and this completely changed her life she calls me and thanks me every other week and gives an update! best sunday aftertoon i ever spent, it was just a few hours of work for me but it helped someone else, this is what i deem is good charity work not just throwing money at ppl for youitube views.

I spent 16 years working with the homeless, especially, those with mental illness. They are a very vulnerable population. I gave my time, food, clothing and sometimes money. I volunteered at a homeless shelter two nights a week as a screener and I served on the board of directors for two terms. Yet, funny thing is, I never thought about filming any of it.

I noticed a lot in these homeless charity videos that the RU-vidr is mostly asking for some small amount of money and then the homeless person gives them that money and then tells them they deserve "x" amount of money. I see this as slightly wrong and unethical because if the homeless person says "no" to giving money because they don't have much and need that money, that doesn't make them a bad person. I feel like videos perpetuate that the only homeless people who deserve huge sums of money. are those who give a small amount of money to people who don't need it (aka RU-vidrs).
@jigglie8077
@jigglie8077 8 месяцев назад
thats one of the unethical parts. its true that they are the people that are helping others so it most likely wont be used in a ... bad? way. but a lot of the people saying no are trying to get money for another person! so yea. lame.

I was an addict from 2007 to 2020 & would've fed that addiction if I'd been given money. Sure, food is more important, but most that have never been addicted to anything have no clue how strong that temptation is. you see so many look down on addicts or say "wow, what an idiot, just don't use any" essentially being like saying "just don't eat" to a morbidly obese person or "just be happy" to a depressed person. Doesn't work like that. Also, if going through withdrawal at the time of receiving the money, well, you'd DEFINITELY buy more. One would do anything to stop it.

There's an assumption that you and many other people in the comment section have that says "if you're homeless, you must have done something wrong. It’s your fault. My favourite of these creators is Just Knate. He never gives out money and instead keeps backpacks (containing clothes, toiletries, a medical kit and other basics), tents and sleeping bags in his car that he gives out to people. He then asks them if there's anything specific they need (like shoes, specific clothes, propane, a phone, a night or 2 in a hotel, a shower or just food) and goes and buys it for them. He always ends with a hug or a handshake which I interpret as an attempt to make the people in the video feel loved and like a human when they're often ignored by society.

Wholeheartedly agreed. Considering the obscene amount of money the 1% in our society make, it should be unacceptable that anybody has to go without a home and nutritious food. Unfortunately, people at large would rather sweep the homeless under the rug (and certainly most politicians), than enact policy changes that might solve the problem. Nobody wants to address heinous income inequality, access to health care, access to higher education, the bloated and corrupt real estate market etc.

If you'll give money to a charity instead, people have to really do their due diligence on said charity foundation because it's been found that many "charity's " will hike up the prices of the food or items they give out. Most charity, be it youtubers, NGOs , and sadly even churches at times are just using the goodwill of others to profit immensely. Oh and not oy that but unlike normal corporations, they don't pay taxes either. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that is actually against helping others. The issue is that people who are actually focused on helping others, generally don't make a spectacle of it or try to showcase it, rather they do their in silence because they are doing g it to actually help, not to make others think they're good people.

I just go with some Catholic Church sponsored charities, they've got charities where they send you personal updates on what they've done with the money including photos and give you options on what you want your donation to go towards. It can be anything from buying some clothes to installing a well in a small settlement that doesn't have access to clean drinking water. And just donating to the Church itself goes to funding schools, universities, and hospitals in addition to the Church. They're a good charity organization.

I’ve been an electrician for 15+ years and for the last 8 years or so, myself and a few friends within the trades have been working with a nonprofit company in our area that builds community centers, tiny homes, and other temporary or permanent housing for the homeless. We do this in our free time and donate our skills, tools, some materials, and have used our relationships with people in other trades to help get these projects completed when they come up. None of us have ever financially benefited from any of it or would even take financial compensation for it. We do it to help others. I have met so many amazing people, had all kinds of conversations with people from all walks of life, and the thought of one of these “influencers” trying to use one of these people as a prop in a video just angers and disgusts me. I couldn’t even imagine doing what we have done and somehow trying to make it about us and turning a spotlight onto us in the process. There’s a lot of people that need help, and being in a position to help them should be something that humans just do without needing to be compensated or recognized for it. I really hope one day people can start to realize that and make some changes but unfortunately I have very little faith that it would actually happen.

@@kuhpunkt that is a stupid arguement fed to you by the likes of mr beast etc, you see they make millions from videos but they give back avery very small fraction of it and they are not making content to "give back to the community" because theyre making it only for getting max views. if they really cared they would spread awareness and fight for the deeper issues, that is, what can we do as a bare minimum to help homeless ppl? there is actually a lot, many hourly jobs are open but they cant give them to homless cause they arent clean and well dressed, hence helping them with some neat and clean clothes, a hot shower and a meal for a start is an excellent way to help a lot of ppl because with 10k u can help 10 or way more ppl but giving it away to some potentially substance addicted man down on his luck is the worst possible idea.

The thing I dislike about MrBeast is how fake he is. Everything he does, he always tries to put a feel-good spin on it. He goes around saying that he started Beast Burger to help out restaurants struggling during the pandemic, but his manager revealed that they started working on opening the brand in 2019 before the pandemic even started. He always tries to paint himself as some saint even when he's doing a cash grab

Awesome video. I always think it's odd when people have to film when they do good things. Sure I can understand Jimmy Darts, MD Motivator and Peter Bond, they make this "charity" they own work in that way. The problem is that it stems from self promoting. I mean when I help a human or animal in need I never think of grabbing my phone first so I can show everyone how good I am. I mean it defeats the purpose, and are they really good at heart? I think they are the people who walk right past you when you lie face down on the floor. Remember those video's? Nowadays they would help you, but they would film you first. People don't want to help strangers, in fear of taking a risk, they won't do it, but if they can benefit from the deed by filming it then they would. It's quite an odd thing. I think most people are just sheep and they follow the crowd. If the crowd steps over an injured man so will they, if the crowd grabs their phone and films, so will they, if they film themselves helping that person so will they. So ultimately what those youtubers are doing is probably helping people to be nicer, albeit it being for the short term.
