My mother (R.I.P.) was one of the biggest Marvin Gaye fans EVER. We met him at The Warehouse Record store in Baldwin Hills back in the 80s when I was a kid. He gave my mother the shades he had on and she screamed and cried. When he was killed it shattered her. She played his songs for DAYS throughout the house on the record player. My mother passed away in 2017 and every time I hear a Marvin Gaye song I get emotional.
Your picture of the actresses in sparkle are from the wrong version. You have pictured the most recent version while you’re talking about the the original version with Irene Cara, Lonette McKee, and Dwan Smith.
So great these artist were I miss them all I sure the deaths are far different than the press release MG lived in LEXINGTON KY he was in Harvey Fuqua group 1st BERRY Gordy brother in law he married his Sister Anna Gordy he was a guy that had a very difficult relationship bc his Dad was very jealous of him and his Mother's close relationship the way they told the story of MG being physically abused by their Dad many times. MG had a book written by David Ritz titled Divided Soul which was finished days before hus demise I never heard of the one mentioned in this vid Mary Wilson and Flo Ballard were my fav THE Supremes D Ross was never my fav as far as the group she did have a nice voice but not my type of sound THE Temptations group w the best falsetto tenor EVER Eddie Kendrick! David Ruffin Melvin Franklin Richard Street were the best of the group ever to me out of MOTOWN This is so wrong for the negativity you keep spewing out on the AI voice you do not get any likes from me on this VID BERRY GORDY he had many ties w others that was kept hidden you do no honor to any these ppl were in a quandary that they could not get out of the pit of darkness I still listen to their music and it is the best that other ppl enjoy worldwide so your vid is crap still MOTOWN singers still are the best after 60 yrs these pplnwere young 15 yo and up to late teens w no knowledge of the music law so wrong they were treated getting no fair pay for sells of their recordings still love Them all

DeBArge's father was even worse, he was a white man and abused every single one of them both sexually and physically. It's easy to focus on Gaye's father and Joe Jackson all the time like most people do. But Debarge's father gets a pass...
Marvin Gaye was on drugs at the time, so that was definitely a factor. It was said they argued over insurance n Marvin would have physically beat that man to death if he hadn’t shot him. Sad story but BOTH were wrong.
@@theoillady6076no I was told that it was the dad jumping on every one in the house even the mom and Marvin Gaye got sick of it and push his dad and I was also told that his dad use to abuse him to no point of return hell some said Marvin Gaye Dady made Joe Jackson look like a saint I honestly don’t know why some people family are like that they know that people is abusive and toxic but they sweep it up under the rug like it never happened Marvin Gaye was tired of his dad abuse towards his mom and him and the mom loved him, but she also loved his dad so she was always at a rock and a hard place just a sad situation to live in
@@christinajames6115 That's the message I got and it seem to me in the movie... the dreams was acting as if they were the Supremes. " They just couldn't say that "! Actually Diane lived on Erskine etc.. I met her at her house when I was young around 10 yrs it was a lot of people in the back yard young and older. She tried to get me to sing a song but I was to shy so this young boy Said , " I will sing it " she laughed and said you will he said yes and the rest is History. not only the many mispronunciations that make me think its a robot, but saying Florence Ballard in 1986…(when she passed a decade earlier) just bothers me more than it should
I was a manager for ASCAP and Motown was a publisher in the ASCAP organization.( Joblett publishing) Berry Gordy didn't pay a lot of the artist their royalties for performances and record sales. He took that money and just built Motown. People like Mary Wells and others didn't get monies that were owed them. Smokey Robinson is an ASCAP composer, he got his royalties but many of the groups that were supposed to get performance royalties from selling millions of records never saw a dime. That's the one thing I hate about Motown it's a secret that most people don't know and the royalties of the performers built Motown. Even Holland, Dozier, and Holland the songwriters had to go to court to get their fair share of their royalties. We remember that case. This is behind the scenes story that most people don't know about Berry Gordy & Motown. When you don't pay people for their record sales and their royalties you have nothing to build on in the future. Where is Motown today??
Tammi Terrell’s death devastated him March 16, 1970. He fell into a drug habit bad. Barry Gordy paid for all Tammi’s hospital bills. But only Motown people that Tammi’s mother allowed at her funeral was Marvin.
Motown sold to MCA, (I believe). But if u are asking the question to label Motown as a failure, your perspective is failing you. Fact: Motown rode the top of the charts for essentially 20 years, that's enough in this business to label you a success. Motown was never a full fledged "record company'______as they started out with a production deal. The money they had to pay in 'payola' in the early days, and the percentages they had to give up to distributors hamstrung their company. In addition, Motown knew these artists essentially had no where else to go back in the day, and that played out two-fold. One, it allowed Motown to play a little loose with royalties, but it also enabled Motown to pay their artists consistently_______whether or not they had hit records or not. You have to understand this in the context of the 60's as the only jobs freely available to black people were janitors, service people, and jobs on the low rung of the total pole. At least in Detroit they could work in the auto industry if they were lucky, but it was only so many jobs there (for proof, look at what happened to Detroit when the auto industry left in a big way). The Spinners, The Isleys, the Contours, The Temptations in the early years, The Undisputed Truth, Edwin Starr, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, The Marvelettes, Brenda Holloway and others received steady, above average, paychecks ALL of the years in which they didnt have hits. They were all from the projects, and Motown cleaned them up, trained them in performance, constantly vocal trained them, and kept them ready for stardom. THAT COSTS MONEY AND A LOT OF IT. Smokey, in many interviews has tried to explain that, but it falls on deaf ears that are prone to believe this victim bullshit.
@@fostermac7170 so if you work all week and then at the end of the week your boss tells you well I'm only gonna pay you 25% to 30% of what I owe you you're going to be happy with that?? Motown made millions and you have to pay your employees, that's why they're out of business. GREED!!!!
@@garrison7888 Why are u discussing this issue with "whatabouts" and theories? The data is there so please don't waste time with that nonsense. The deal that Motown offered these artists is that number 1, they would have a job. Number 2 they would become stars and have a career. Very few of these artists wrote their own music and if Motown put their potential performance royalties up to their recoupment responsibilities, I would wager your argument would be neutralized. You mentioned HDH, and if u understand the music business, you know that they have access to mechanical, composition and other royalties that a mere singer does not. If it's not in the contract, the singer doesn't get anything from any form of airplay royalties either. So here's the deal, the artists weighed their potential royalties against the salaries and benefits that Motown paid them and made an executive decision that they could live with. They then made their bones in concert (by the way, Motown managed the tours and artists, and they also provided the musicians and arrangers and choreographers, etc) A lot of talk for instance, is made about the Spinners, who were with Motown for roughly 12 years WITHOUT a hit or any real royalties to lay claim to. The Spinners were paid an above average salary for all of those years. No recoupment to be paid, and a backing band provided for any concerts they performed. Their are plenty of other examples, and I wager that you don't know the whole truth about Motown, or black artists or business in general. Motown SOLD in 1988 to buyers who could make millions (billions?) by transacting the catalog in various methods. It could be argued that Motown's catalog was essentially in the top five of catalogs in music history. Nothing stopped Motown from doing that except the willingness of it's owner. Berry took the present day cash, rather than bank on future earnings. This idea that Motown was forlorn is a figment of your imagination.

Several of the DeBarge family spoke of their father SA them in their early childhoods. That experience is most likely the root of their troubled lives.
Omgosh how I adored Marvin Gaye. He had a rough childhood with his dad and of course ending as well. Talent isn’t a strong enough word to describe him and such a gentle soul. Even more respect he was candid in the early 80’s in an interview on RU-vid he had bipolar and having it myself I can’t imagine dealing with the fame and family dynamic with this cruel disorder. This was when people didn’t talk openly about it before the “end the stigma” modern society. He had 3 suicide attempts in the 70’s. RIP Sweet Prince The world is a far lesser place without you.❤
Motown was a black hole where artists were mercilessly exploited. Dee Dee Warwick also collaborated with Motown, recording demos for Diana Ross and Martha and the Vandellas (sometime in 1964). She called this cooperation “a very big mistake.” But at Motown, Dee Dee met Mary Wells, for whom she recorded background vocals for Love Songs To The Beatles (1965) and Mary Wells (1965)
Dee Dee Warwick recalls working for Motown Records in Detroit, Michigan Now, what year did you go to Detroit [Michigan] and start--I mean you were making records here in New York [New York], and then you met two producers and you--they decide they want you to go to Detroit. Yeah. What year was that, and what was Detroit like? That was the year of the big mistake (laughter). That was a mistake on my part. Detroit was Motown [Records], period. As a matter of fact, I recorded at Motown. But it wasn't my style (simultaneous). (Simultaneous) Before you go any further, tell me about Motown and recording at Motown. Motown is an icon. Oh, yes, oh yes. Well, I had done demos for Tamla [Records; Motown Records, Detroit, Michigan], which was Motown in New York. So, they were well-aware of me. And it just didn't work for me. You know, their sound, their rhythms, they were different from ours that we used on the East Coast. What was your first meeting with [HistoryMaker] Berry Gordy like? Oh, very different; very, very different. As a matter of fact, I had met Berry when he was first writing, like I said, on Tamla Records, which I used to work a lot in the Brill Building in New York. And Tamla was right downstairs from where I used to work, upstairs with [Jerry] Leiber and [Mike] Stoller. And I met him there at Tamla, and he wanted to sign me. And I went to lunch with him and with the manager I had, and they offered me five hundred dollars a week for the rest of my life. I said, "I have to go to the ladies' room." And I left, I went home (laughter). I mean I'm making like $250,000, $200,000 a year doing background. And he's going to offer me $500 a week? I didn't know what he was talking about. So, I left. So that stayed right there. And well, not too long ago at the Pioneer Awards he was there, I saw him there. He said, "I still want you to sing for me," you know, which was very complimentary. So, the Motown, at that time--talk to me about--you know, there were certain--there was a particular sound coming from Motown in the '60s [1960s]. You had the opportunity to work with some of the Motown artists. Who were they? Well, I worked with, well, I worked with The Supremes and Martha and the Vandellas. What was it like working with The Supremes? Well, it was rather strange. Because see, we were East Coast, and they were Detroit. It was something like what the rappers are going through now. But it was not, it wasn't violent. It's just that we said, "You are you, and we are we" (laughter). And that was the whole story with that. We didn't mix that well.
I absolutley hate the fact that YT makes creators censor their vids at the risk of demonitization... especially when it's content is historical. History had a lot of ugly parts, but they should not be censored. Parents, do your job and don't let that screen babysit your kids. RU-vid, do better. The fact that the song title ''Sexual Healing'' had to be censored annous me to no end. This is in no way a shot at creators. They have bills to pay too. I just wish RU-vid would let them have the freedom to speak on historical facts without having to censor them. Besides YT's annoying policies, great vid and great misic.
Thank you!! I'm so glad you brought that up. It's so obvious on ALL documentaries about Motown that they leave The Marvelettes out or gloss over or marginalize their contributions to Motown's early beginnings. They were also a fantastic and unique live act with great choreography, compared to other girl groups, and were favorites at places like The Uptown, The Regal, The Fox, and The Apollo, etc.!!
And they say we are pushing OUR lifestyle on THEM? Excuse me.... It's y'all honey. Always trying to convert somebody and influence them to think like you do.... 😂

Im sitting here crying into my damn coffee listening to all the horrific tragedies all of my favorite artists suffered through. I am so saddened by Tammi Terrell's tragic life and her early demise, she was just so beautiful and had a voice like no other. It also brought back memories of the night Marvin was k1lled by his father, I remember just having laid down to sleep and was listening to the radio when the announcement came on by "Frankie "Hollywood" Crocker" on 107.8 FM, and I jumped out of bed and ran into my mom's bedroom literally sobbing uncontrollably unable to verbalize what I had just heard. I remember crying for days, and to this very day, I cant listen to a Marvin Gaye or Michael Jackson song without falling to tears. So many talented beautiful people taken from this world too soon. I pray they are all in a better place somewhere out there in Eternity, and pray that their Souls are finally resting in Peace and LOVE. 🙏 ❤
To @LeenaStark: I love and miss all of them. I have them in my music collection and I know how you feel. I no longer get sad at their passing. Their music makes me happy and we can enjoy the gifts they left for us. So go ahead, play your favorite songs by them as they would want you to. The De Barges had older brothers who had hits before the younger sibling. Bobby was the musical genius of the family and had a tragic life. There was a reason thet were all messed up. A lot family abuse . The8r story will make you cry and make you sick.
exactly....most people like to focus immediately on Joe Jackson as one of the most "demonic" entertainment fathers of all time (others even like to throw in Marvin Gaye's father as well), but IMO most side stories pale in comparison to the abuse(s) the Debarge family suffered from their white French father.

I remember watching a video about Florence it's sad I think in Dream girls Jenifer Hudson was playing as her. Florence died at 32 but some people think her death was planned because she was supposed to make a book about what happened about Motown
Your absolutely right Florence Ballard's sister says that she believed was allegedly murdered because she was going to sue Motown again and make public some alleged secrets she had on Berry Gordy.
What Berry did to Florence was a crime. THE most successful Motown group and the most successful American vocal group. She founded the group and named them. Berry gave her over 100k severance pay knowing she'd probably be broke in a short time. Made her sign an agreement forbidding mentioning she was a member of the group she founded. Folks praise Berry Gordy for his business success. 🐍. He could have handled that situation much better.
I know that but they have similarities but the movie really didn’t tell you the whole story of dream girls it is loosely based on dream girls @@kenj280
The Supremes had a lot of problems because they secretly didn’t get along with Diana Ross. They all felt she was craving attention for herself. The Jackson 5 was very successful with #1 hits and then they left the label because Berry didn’t pay enough attention to them. Stevie Wonder at one point almost left the label, so he was the only artist from the 60s era to stay until the late 2000s era. Smokey Robinson was their main artist who had a lot of songwriting credits on the label. Mary Wells also had a problem with the label, so she had the right to leave. Also, they only care about who made the most money with the company. Tammi Terrell also had her problems with her health, so she died so young; therefore, they really did her wrong. David Ruffin had a problem with his ego that led him getting kicked out of The Temptations. The Temptations were always having problems with lineup changes due to Otis Williams being the leader of the group. The Jackson Family also deal with serious issues with their father Joe who kept his children from playing with other kids and forced them to rehearsal 5 hours a day. They were forced to call their father Joe instead of Daddy. They didn’t like calling their father by his first name. I find it disturbing and distasteful. It’s weird to me.
You do a lot of glossing over the facts. The Jackson's left Motown because their contract was up, and CBS was paying a whole lot more money (the same as they did with Diana Ross a few years later). The Temptations did NOT have problems because Otis was the group leader. David Ruffin loved cocaine, Paul was an alcoholic with an incurable illness. Motown didnt "do Tammi Terrell wrong" , she died of cancer (what were they supposed to do, cure her cancer?) I'll leave the rest alone. You guys need to drop the conspiracy bullshit.
Jacksons left Motown for CBS because they wanted to write and produce their own songs. David Ruffin was addicted to drugs and was being kicked out of The Temptations. I’m still figuring out any artist from Motown that most of us don’t know about and why haven’t they been mentioned. The DeBarge family dealt with some personal issues in their lives, who were signed to the label during the 80s. Diana Ross left the label for 8 years before she returned for one final time. Florence Ballard was treated horribly by Diana and Berry Gordy. Mary Wilson was the only one who still talks about her, so Diana barely mentions Florence. Diana Ross was very cut-throat and she doesn’t have the best reputation either for those who worked for the label during her time there. I heard Marvin Gaye refused to do a duet with her at one point because he didn’t feel comfortable around her. Rick James was signed as a solo act who later became a successful singer/songwriter/record producer who always worked with Teena Marie and The Temptations.
@@blakebrown84 The Jacksons' left for the huge contract from CBS. Indeed, CBS made a move on damn near ALL black acts after Motown showed they could get to the top with these artists (translation: the artists crossed over). The Jacksons gave Motown an opportunity to counter, but they couldn't match CBS' deal, and to boot, the Jacksons would be able to record their own music with CBS. Diana Ross left for the biggest contract in the history of the industry. Marvin left during (after) his divorce from Anna. The Commodores, Rick James and Switch came with their writing intact, and Motown figured out how to coexist with out a producer "farm" system.
I knew Marvin Gaye left somewhere around the mid-70s just like the other Motown acts from the 60s. Marvin Gaye went to Columbia Records. The newer Motown acts like The Commodores and Lionel Richie, and some of them who were signed with the label had moved to Los Angeles, so some of the local acts stayed in Detroit. They basically wanted to crossover with different audiences who always wanted to hear the Motown sound. I felt the Jacksons were forced to change the name because the label own its rights to the name. They were very successful with songwriting/production duo Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff, who have written songs for The O’Jays in their respective careers. Jermaine Jackson left the group to stay with the label as a solo artist. However, The Jackson’s youngest brother Randy Jackson joins the group in the place of Jermaine.
How in the hell would the Supremes be ranked #97 out of #100? Who the hell are the other 96 musicians ranked above the Supremes? These ranking systems are truly insane!
That ranking is low. To this day The Supremes are still the best selling girl group of all time. Only The Beatles sold more than them as far as groups in the 1960s
white people view the USA and European countries (mostly britain) as ONE AND THE SAME so they have a more extensive category from which to make their lists and decisions whereas Black AMERICANS are the ONLY true Americans and therefore do not readily consider music from other countries as it fits into their everyday lives. As such, American (Black) music always ranks ridiculously "low" on these unknown systems commonly heard of.
I grew up on all of these folks music. That’s when black music was for us as a people. It’s changed so much, I can hardly listen to much of what’s circulating in our culture nowadays.
So glad that I'm talentless. Fame brings pain, and tragedy. Share your talent, at what cost?? Is it worth it!? In 2024, the entertainment business, is something to run from! No celebrity has a positive story!! So sad, to have talent!
Really, it's always been a nightmare. But there's always been ways to avoid the pain and tragedy. Mainly to love people and music and not be overly concerned about fame and riches. Then you could possibly avoid the traps and manipulation.
Their talent is not natural. All these people are born into elite families, and are trained and conditioned since birth. Many use demons to do the performance. Truth is stranger than fiction.
Stop it. You have talent in a different sector. Their talents were blessings, they 'sold their souls' for wealth and fame. Everything works out for good when we go God's way.
A belt or tree branch for punishment was very common in my generation, I think our generation gen X was the last generation to get the belt or tree branches used on us because we understood that it wasn’t necessary. Removing all rules however is the problem now.

I'm interested how and when Harvey Fuqua of Harvey and the Moonglows meet and married Berry Gordy's sister Gwen and then introduced new Moonglow member Marvin Gaye too Berry Gordy's other sister Anna Gordy who he eventually married. It's rumored that Ànna held back the release of Marvin's version of "I heard it through the Grapevine" because of his infidelity so she opted to release Gladys knight and the pips version first
It was Berry Gordy's sisters who helped Berry Gordy to establish Motown. Gwen Gordy and her husband Harvey had their own record label named Harvey/Hi fi with such artists The Spinners and Junior Walker and the All Stars. Sister Anna Gordy had a label call Anna with artist and composer Barrett Strong in 1960 Harvey and Gwen dissolved their label and Anna dissolved her label and joined with their brother under one company Motown/Tamla.They brought their artist with them so now you have on Motown/Tamla the Miracles Mary Wells Marv Johnson Marvin Gaye The Spinners Junior Walker and the All Stars And Barrett Strong soon after came The Marveletes the The Primes and the Primets Martha Reeves was helping doing Office work and PR until Marvin Gaye started recording The Vandellas was Marvin's back up singers they received credit on Stubborn Kind of Fellow Hitch Hike and Pride and Joy. Junior Walker biggest hit of course was Shotgun the Spinners biggest hit on Motown "It's a Shame" the rest is history.
George Osmond, the father of the famous Osmond brothers singing group was just as much of a hard task master as Joeseph Jackson. But that s never mentioned.
@@WillieBowen-w2d And They Wearn't On The # 1 Record Label Of Motown Records Either And I Also Met Donnie Osmond And Sat Down With Him To Chat Did U Ever Meet Him At All ?
I so love Marvin Gaye, one of the greats! Such a tragedy what happened to him, and by the hands of his own father! May he be at peace in God's kingdom.
Berry Gordy changed many of the names. The Supremes became Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Miracles became Smokey Robinson & The Miracles. It was done to get them better bookings - a solo artist plus a group. That's the whole reason behind it.
Let’s not forget how the Jackson 5 also influence the Osmond brothers and also the Sylvers Michael is perhaps the saddest Motown story, even though he is arguably the most successful artist to come out of Motown in my opinion. His status as the king of pop is unbreakable, but the amount of mental trauma he experienced we all witnessed right down to his facial Trans. Formation, especially his obsession with his nose I read an interview where he was attempting to erase Jo’s face. From his own. Can you imagine his anguish every time he looked in the mirror and saw his father’s face looking back at him? This is a guy who used to throw up when his father entered the room. He must’ve hated himself on some level, looking at his face his obsession with children forced and rumors of pedophilia that is still the stuff. Of discussion and speculation even today
There is no rumors of pedophilia. Michael went to court for that and everything was threw at him involving the 2005 "victum" and the 1993 "victum" being investigated by the FBI for over 20 years and STILL NOTHING. F@@K rumors I go with facts.
The Osmonds were on tv way before the Jacksons. Osmonds Brothers Alan Wayne Merrill Jay were on the tv series The Travels of Jamie McPheeters with Kurt Russell in the 60s . Also the Andy Williams Show in the 60's
I'd guess people deal with depression differently because despite MJ's agony dealing with his dad, imagine if you were sexually and physically abused by your white father like DeBarge? Not trying to weigh or compare abuses, but Joe Jackson's hard nose discipline kept his boys (pretty much) thriving.
This type of life is often desired. When you hear stories like these, it’s nothing you ever dreamed of a really want Hollywood with wallet, glitz and glamour absolutely corrupt and ruins the souls of people I’m convinced I can’t even count on one finger success stories I know that route there, but it’s so outweighed by the avalanche of stories like these that I can’t remember any.
Most of the people associated with Motown the artists and in the business end, were from middleclass families. Detroit had a very large black middleclass community, before the US auto industry took a dive in the mid 1970's..
Marvin's final words to his brother are heartbreaking. I still think Tammie got tumor from David Ruffin, hitting her on the head with motorcycle helmet. Florence Ballard was treated so bad by Berry Gordy and Diana Ross, she died broke and alone.my all time favorites were Marvin, Tammie and Florence May they Rest in Peace.❤❤❤
As always, you do fine work but why did you not discuss the Debarge's brutal life with their father? You included this in The Jackson's segment. You did not address the Temptations either; I am not referring to the David Ruffin/Tammie Terrell story.
because Debarge's father was a white Frenchie and most content creators feel it is better to highlight the ills or degeneracy of that stemming from the Black community and ensuring that whites receive less as presumably possible, as the idea is to demonize the former thus appeasing the dominant society.
@@jewellmayo5585 Berry Gordy and Diana Ross have three children together. She got married to someone else. Had a baby shortly afterwards. The husband wondered why the baby had NO European features like him.
So many people get caught up in famous celebrity lives, when you really have to understand and realize that they are just as you are people, with their own life circumstances some more pronounced than others only on a high profile "Public stage" but never the less no different than many. And even in many circumstances quite worse! A gifted mental or physical talent doesn't at all signify righteousness or even a well rounded individual only the love and obedience to God Almighty remotely does and even that is a life long journey of a process. Many not all of the famous celebrities were sinners and lived corrupt lifestyles and we're not at all living for God. Many people of the world worship these celebrity artists, athletes, actors, politicians, activists their cultural ancestors and the like etc. But none of that worldly behavior will earn anyone salvation in the Kingdom of God. God bless.
If they had God, in there life it would have been better, but no they chose the darn devil and still do till this day just ashamed. If you don't have God, you don't have nothing
Everywhere we go ad black folks we sent trends & the bar high to the heavens. In Detroit....they had "Motown" or "Hitsville USA". Here in Philly we had "Philadelphia International Records". In Los Angeles they had "Soular Records". Soul Music of the 60's, 70's & better part of the 80's was the height of young black cool. The music painted a picture with love stories, pain, courtship & partying. I didn't matter what artist was your favorite..."Motown" catered to every style of fan. 🎧🎵🤔🎧🎵🤔🎧🎵
You left out the Osmonds, the song ''One Bad Apple" was a hit because a lot of people thought it was the Jackson 5. I didn't find out until I went to buy the record.
That could have been the 5th number one hit for the J5. Berry didn't think it was in his best interest since he wouldn't have publishing rights to One Bad Apple.
@@cjsvoiceworks6008 yeah I know. The person who wrote One Bad Apple intended for it to be recorded by the J5. Donny Osmond did an interview and said they basically switched songs. Ben was supposed to be sung by Donny , but he had other contractual obligations. So Michael sang it .
Wow When It Comes To The Jacksons Our Name Is Never Mentioned And We're The Only Group That Made One Of They're Songs Hit # 1 On The Billboard Charts...Wow So Sad Anyway One Love Fam.
Motown here for an amazing season. Here for a purpose. Thought provoking as to what life was like in Motown. I grew up listening to everyone of the artist. No mention of Smokey and the Miracles. I still have many of the 45's. What a wonderful time in music in the 60's and 70's. Thank you!!
unfortunately Debarge's section skipped straight to the drug abuse and neglected to mention that almost every one of them were "ABUSED" by their sadistic white father, which in turn must have in some way influenced what was to follow in terms of downfalls.
That was really nice of Bobby Bennett to sit & watch Tammy Terrell get better up by woman beater James Brown & then go tell everyone about it. Cowardly him & Brown.
Heck Berry Gordy described " MICHAEL JACKSON AND THE JACKSON 5" Even though Joe doesn't even like the title he said there's no main star in the group it was supposed to be the Jackson 5 or The Jacksons Basically the Jacksons deserves more respect just like Michael
I loved your stories but there is much more Gris for the mill. David Ruffin, Rick James and the temptations all have such tragic story’s. You can get a good two hour movie on this subject.
Shut up. They didn't "minimalize" anything. This video wasn't only, or even primarily, about the "JACKSON 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Okay?! It profiled the group with the same amount of time it did the other acts. More wasn't needed. Stans are so damn annoying in their cult-like obsession.
I beg to differ. The Supremes were the most successful Motown act. 12 #1 billboard pop hits. The J5 had 4 #1 billboard pop hits. They ( Supremes ) are the most successful American vocal group.
Yes they were totally devalued monetarily as most musicians were back then and even today. A great musician or producer is a dime a dozen in the music industry, they all can be replaced! There's always many waiting in the wings that will do anything for fame!
What about the tragedies of the Marvellettes. Why are the Marvellettes so hidden in Motown's illustrious history. Arguably the most soulful female group next to Martha &the Vandellas.
Right. The Marvellettes made Motown its first big hit--Mr Postman. When lead singer Gladys Horton was replaced by the more seductive and soulful lead of Wanda Young about 1965 under the direction of Smokey Robinson, the Marvellettes became less crossover and more soulful, and were more soulful than the the Supremes, as was the Martha and the Vandellas.
To top it all off, most of the singers begann in the church. GOD graced them with all these talents and they took it to the other side. Put your trust in no man. We were no better because we literally idolized these people that we didn't even know. Sad world.
I’m tired, I understand being blessed tremendously and then having it all taken away without any warning. I don’t understand illness nor why God would allow it and take away the life I had. I’m tired.
Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww how sad is that to take your dreams and your talent and judge but you can't compete because you have none just benifiting off the poor desperate money hungry will do anything for a Dollar I'm glad I never went to sing or act in movies and the killer is they die broke😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
It is isn't it. Especially that Harvey Fuqua to whom he 'signed for life' aka married into the industry, also did the same. Its been going on since the inception of the music business.
