burnt out artist here, hi. i started teaching art a little while ago and found it really good for my mental health. seeing my student's love of art, i'm eager to find exciting things to share with her. the hurt it very much still there, but i'm looking forward to seeing what my new relationship with art is going to be like. thank you for this video
Really nice video -glad to see someone saying it clearly. I think the complicated terms and theoretical usage in art world can have its real value in history or idea, but it may not be the cases most of the time. What you suggested in the video might happens as well
Thank you for sharing your story so much, can relate, you come across as a genuine and compassionate young person. Thank you for making yr channel here on RU-vid. I find yr videos really interesting and inspiring. The art world needs to change/ evolve, it is so corrupt and full of the super rich and upper middle classes and nepotism and laundered money. I think of art I think of privilege and identity tokenism. I think Titus Kaphurs work is interesting in that he built his own world and that is what you are doing. Art is much more related to the class struggle than people understand and it shouldn’t be it should be for everyone. Maybe we should go back to the apprehension system which was feudal af but at least it was honest about it, I find community art spaces and programs or what is left of them the only space where I can intersect with creative people and art these days. I draw with other people with mental health issues on Zoom, just regular people who enjoy art. Good luck on yr journey.
Love your channel and your sharing your experience in the art world. I am a retired commercial photographer who's learning about and moving into the fine art world. What I have observed is that the art world is a capitalistic system where it thrives on competition and zero sum game mentality. Your success as an artist has little to do with how good you are in making art rather the kind of network you built to support your business in the arts. Most gate keepers want to keep this elite network small for money making purposes. Loving and making art is entirely different thing compared to having a career in the arts where one requires to thrive and sustain as a business person.
A lot of this really resonated with me, enjoyed the honesty in this video. Though I would say a lot of my favourite painters, people who I think deserve success, seem to be platformed by mainstream galleries. Artists like Mamma Andersson, Michael Armitage, Nengi Omuku, Will Bruno, Noah Davis … list could go on and on … doesn’t that show that there is some merit to the gallery game and that it’s not all dreadful?
Honestly I think I agree with you, sometimes I’m just free-styling and I say something I don’t actually think. @@ArtTheoriez yeah I go through phases where I feel so disenfranchised with the art world and times where I feel more optimistic about it. But I’ve never had much first hand experience. Still painting, currently travelling, trying to figure out if I should continue putting so much time into painting which is such an unstable and financially difficult place. Or whether I should retrain and find a more stable life. Regardless I think the solution I have been coming to - and perhaps the message in your video - is that the real value of art is simply just in the doing of it. I really enjoy your videos, your channel is great! Nice work.
@@ArtTheoriez haha I say travelling but I’ve been sat on a beach in Corfu for a week or two… but before that I was hiking in the north of Spain on a pilgrim route.
Thanks for sharing your story, really well told! Devil wears prada s such a good film too. We need a full exit from "The Art world". I think the big instutions and blue-chips have been playing catch up since 2020 in terms of platforming more sidelined artists but it has taken much too long for these surface level changes.
