Regarding the image that appears from 10:19 to 10:25, that is from a rally on 9 October 2023 in Sydney, Australia, less than two full days after the massacre in Israel and before any Israeli response to it. While it might have started as a pro-Palestine rally, it quickly devolved into something much uglier - as seen in the subtitles shown in the image. You can look it up for further information. I chose that image and that rally very specifically because it was both very recent and most certainly did cross the line into anti-Semitism. It's inclusion in this video is a statement about that particular rally - not about pro-Palestine as a whole. I am only making this comment to clarify this point, since I've had to sort out several comments that seemed to miss the point I was making. If you wish to argue about Israel-Palestine? There are no shortage of other places you can do that: This is not one of them.

Hey so some claims to this were very much debunked by the NSW Police, you can still argue about some of the contents but the most bombastic ones were very clearly lies with the obvious intention of framing these people in as bad as a light as possible. And you know people making up lies to defame on purpose is never a sign of good intentions. And it is clear as to why people would do this when those who made these false claims originally also have not just defended but supported many many murders happening in the last 8 months. If you have not done so yet, please inform yourself about this. This investigation happened before you made this video. Note: this is just pointing out that a story where people said things very much unacceptable was spun with malicious intend to go far further than reality supports. We should be careful to not believe every detail we hear until authorities confirm these.

German here. As someone who graduated from the German equivalent of High school last July, I can tell you that the Dolchstoßlegende is still taught in school. Not in the same context, of course. I donˋt know what people in other countries are taught about Nazis. Probably not much more than: Nazis bad. However, this topic is so much bigger and more complex than you might think. Here in Germany, Nazis are covered multiple times in school. In my 13 Years of school, Nazis were covered 3 times for half a year each. The focus is not on the things they did, but on how and why the Nazis worked. We do, however, still learn about it. The Dolchstoßlegende is covered while talking about how the Nazis gained power. I do remember Siegfried being brought up, but more so as trivia than something you actually need to know. Anyway, the reason itˋs still taught is that by teaching about how the Nazis gained power, it helps prevent something like this from happening again.
@CrazyYurie
@CrazyYurie 3 месяца назад
Nowhere near enough is taught in the US about it. I learned about all this stuff on my own through my own studies. There is so much broad survey, but very little focus on real details of history. I do agree that the connection of Siegfried with the Dolchstoßlegende is pretty small in the grand scheme of things, but since I was approaching this from the angle of talking about Siegfried... it became something notable from that perspective.

For those who don't know, a reason Fredrick the Great of Prussia dismissed the Nibelungenlied was because he was a hardcore francophile (slang for lover of french culture), and didn't have much care for his native language and culture to the point he made prussian german his second language and French his first. it's also interesting how figures or organizations in history and legends are cherry picked to fit propaganda narratives. On example that comes to mind was how many European monarchs and dictators attempted to call themselves the heir of Rome. From Charlemagne's title "Emperor of the West" and founding of the "Holy Roman Empire" to Napoleon's coronation and how in the Romanov Russian Empire and later Hohenzollern German Empire use of the tile "Caesar" (Tsar, Kaiser) as in the Imperial title of the Roman Empire. All that flare while pushing aside that the foundation of Rome's legacy was not the Emperor, but the principle of the SPRQ, "Senatus PopulusQue Romanus" (The Senate and the Roman People).

Another reason why is because when the Nibelungenlied was rediscovered, it was changed by Christoph Heinrich Myller before it was published. He changed the verse form ,kept stuff out , changed it to resemble a classical greco-roman poem and advertised it as a german Iliad for the classical loving enlightenment period. Myller‘s edition had so many errors that you often couldn’t understand the meaning of the poetry. It wasn’t until 1827 that Karl Joseph Simrock translated the Nibelungenlied properly in modern german. Goethe liked this version but Frederick the great was already dead for 40 years. You see, the difference is in actually understanding and appreciating these stories, you make them and their lessons immortal. Most fairytales are read to teach children and adults lessons about life. Abusing these stories for selfish acts can only ever sully them for a short time. So what you're doing is simply sending on the message, whether it's because of genuine interest or you using an "anime avatar" doesn't really matter, you're presenting it well.

Even as a tangent, I appreciate this tangent, as I believe in how learning from the past, to not make the same mistakes in the present, is how we make a better future. This sort of topic needs to be talked about more, especially during the present where much "discussion" by people online, offline, and so called "leaders" are so ignorant to what has happened in WWII, and end up repeating the same "arguments" of racism, ableism, and abusing minorities, while also ignoring the Nazis were also exterminating LGBT+ minorities, for the sake of their "arguments" and agendas. You and your "idiotic videos with Melusine as the comedy avatar" show the appreciation and understanding of history and myth, along with what values we can learn from them, not just mistakes to avoid.

Source: The German and English Wikipedia article about the Nibelungenlied subsection Reception. Also regarding the Russian mercenary Organisation called Wagner. There was actually a period in the 2000s where N*zism gained popularity in Russia among teenagers and young adults .Despite obvious reasons like what their „Idols“ would have thought of them. According to them Russia was the only white nation left because the west is full of immigrants. They were racist to turkic people coming to western Russia from Siberia and central Asia. After an attack to a Tajik man on a train station which became a scandal, the Russian government decided to crack down on n*zism. Forbidding it, focusing on a Federal Russian instead of a Slavic Russian identity, and made some movies like „We are from the Future“ (2008). Where Russian teenagers including a N*zi are transported to ww2 and are mistaken as soldiers by the soviet military. They have to fight in the army temporarly and when they get back the n*zi throws his hooked cross away. For more information There is a 13 minute recap of that movie on youtube named „Skinhead Goes Back In Time To WWII And is captured by Soviet Army“. If Muhammad were a servant (he should exists in fate be given the fact that we know the hassans and Mehmed II) ,well, he'd make the top 2 for sure. Just one note about this video. As a Jewish person, I don’t think using Palestinian flags at 10:20 is a good idea to use as an example of anti-Semitism. while it is true that there are some people who use Palestine as an excuse to be anti-Semitic, the two are not synonymous, and many many Jewish people (myself included) support a free Palestine and holding Israel to account for what has been done to the Palestinian people. I feel a better example of modern day anti-Semitism would’ve been the charlottesville rally.

The thing about Nazism existing in Russia isn't exactly a new thing. It comes from Russian Jurist and political philosopher Ivan Illyn who was anti-Bolshevik and initially supported Hitler's totalitarian ideas. Even Vladimir Putin is a fan of Illyn. I was initially surprised about the Red Line existing in the Metro Series given Russia's history with Nazis but after learning about Illyn, it makes perfect sense. The thing about fascism and fascist ideas that makes its remnants still exists is its use of nationalism and the idea of the state being above all, which many political thinkers and "patriots" alike embrace even to this day.

Minor correction, but Mephistopheles is older than Goethe's adaptation of Faust. He goes all the way back to the chapbook written in the late 1500s. Because of Faust's widespread pop culture presence and how old the source material is, people get a lot of the details mixed up like that. A lot of people don't even know Faust was a real person. The stuff about the Nibelungenlied's cultural importance comes up around Goethe's Faust too, since it was already established German folklore being brought back into prominence. That might be worth revisiting in another video, since you missed a lot of the references FGO made to Goethe and the chapbook when you covered Mephistopheles.

An overall good video. Some things I disagree with on overall terms on what I consider "far-right" and what I don't, but I get the overall point. To me, far-right is the less government, the better. Which is not what Mr. Mustache was going for at all. You did a good job expressing things perfectly and why tyrants should always be thrown in the trash, though.
@CrazyYurie
@CrazyYurie 3 месяца назад
That conversation is a bit too involved to get into for this video. I would argue that a person who holds right-wing views who believes in smaller government isn't actually "far right" - because, whatever their views? A belief in smaller government tends to also mean a government that does not brutally enforce its will upon people. The "far" in far right and far left are meant to denote extremists - those who make a point of forcing their views on everyone.
@orga7777
@orga7777 3 месяца назад
@@CrazyYurie When I denote what is Left and Right, I go by the government. The Left, mostly, wants more government. The Right, mostly, wants less government. To me the extreme far-right would be the ancaps, relying solely on the non-aggression principle to govern the world. Sadly, as much as I wish that could happen, it just can't because humans are way too flawed and inherently power hungry or selfish to be fully independent without it inevitably devolving into a tyranny. The opposite end of the ancap is the full on Communist dictatorship in the realm of the Mao or Stalin where you are crushed by the bureaucratic and military might of the leadership and controlled fully by fear. Personally, I think there is a very thin line between Fascism and Communism. The differences are so miniscule that I don't even think it is that dissimilar from the other at all and one can seemlessly morph between one and the other without much changing. Both have top down government control over what can and can't be done. The only difference is the economic model used. Both still have the government involved way too much in business and how it operates, though, for it to be a significant change. A good example I think can be modern day China from Maoist China. Modern day China acts more like a fascist government than it was under Mao and before opening trade with teh West. The Maoist system wasn't working and stagnated growth, but instead of removing all the Communist Party controls, they kept those and just changed how they involve themselves into business so there can be some economic growth instead of none at all. Like in Germany or Italy in the 1930s-40s, they seem pretty similar. Sorry for the long-winded reply. I like talking political philosophy. You can ignore this if you want. :)
@CrazyYurie
@CrazyYurie 3 месяца назад
@@orga7777 Political terminology tends to be very complicated, and pairing it down to just left/right is something I actually don't like to do, since it tends to lack nuance. I prefer to add the second paradigm of Authoritarian vs Libertarian: specifically to denote how much government involvement there should be. Left vs Right then becomes, essentially, Economic Equality vs Economic Freedom. So rather than just saying "Left vs right", I'd rather have four main groupings. Authoritarian Right is when you have corporatism and bringing business into the government - like what you would have seen in Pinochet's Chile or in Putin's Russia. Authoritarian Left is when you have attempts to force "equality" at the expense of business, such as Stalin's USSR or Mao's China. Libertarian Right is where people want business to thrive with as little interference as possible - this is where you will find Ayn Rand and her followers. Lastly the Libertarian Left is those who want a more equal society, but without heavy-handed government intervention - see the Paris Commune or people like MLK and Bernie Sanders. Even these aren't perfect. You actually have a point in saying that Hitler wasn't really "true" far right, since in economic terms he mixed elements of Corporatism and Socialism - meaning he was more an Authoritarian Centrist. But since people tend to think fascists are all far-right? I used that terminology in the video. In reality, fascists are authoritarians, which is why it is ok to call people like Stalin or Mao fascists as well - Red Fascists.

@@CrazyYurie I will just say this. I have never found the second paradigm of the Political Compass to be very compelling. My biggest problem with it is that almost every "Libertarian" Leftist wants top down control in some fashion. Just going through someone like Bernie Sanders proposed positions shows that rather handily. I consider what Sanders supports is more POPULIST Left than "Libertarian." Cause really, there is nothing Libertarian about Sanders in my view. He is too much of a Statist to be Libertarian.

@@CrazyYurie I had a response, but YT got rid of it for no reason. Here is a thought. YT is pretty authoritarian. Speech police of the worst kind. Makes it so hard to have discussions around here. :(

Charlie predates the conception of "Germany" by about 1000 years. I don't think it's very fair to try and connect the two.
