Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), the last Gunslinger, is locked in an eternal battle with Walter O'Dim (Matthew McConaughey), also known as the Man in Black. I like a villain who doesn't need to yell to get his/her point across. For the man in black is no exception, for he doesn't need to get angry to show how menacing he is, just him talking shows enough.

Even though this wasn't a good or great movie, it's a guilty pleasure for me. Idris Elba does a good job playing Roland Deschain despite not being given more to work with, Matthew McCounaghy is definitely having fun playing the Man in Black, and I admit the action scenes are pretty cool. Still what bogs the film down is focusing too much on Jake and trying to be more like Maze Runner or Divergent or any of the numerous other Hunger Games cash ins than being The Dark Tower, not to mention condensing so many of the books into a single film with a run time that's shorter than it ought to have been (seriously, I think it might have worked better as a 2.5 hour long film than a 90 minute film).

I agree I havent read the dark tower books or anything yet but the movie wasnt that bad it could have been better but it was still good for what it was. I like the action in it and how well the man in black and roland were portrayed.

I think it would have worked much better as a Netflix limited series. There's a lot of good moments here that didn't get enough room to breathe because the movie was so compressed.

I'm still not sure why in the film, Randall Flagg's magic worked on Roland's father but not Roland himself. Roland's father was a descendant of Arthur Eld, the Lord of Light, and a Guardian of the White. There's no way the powers of the Outer Dark should have worked on him. His magic also shouldn't have worked on the bullets from the Sandalwood Guns, since they were forged from Excalibre, a weapon literally forged by The White in the Pyramid of Kashamin.

Genetic? Possible to skip a generation? Definitely doesn't work on the guns but Idk about the bullets - in all fairness he does far more often block them than catch them, as if his magics *don't* work, but he can still just grab them - he can't stop them without touching them unlike say the glass or rocks in the finale

This movie was cool and people saying that it's not faithful to the book probably didn't get the book ending because the movie was a sequel and no one can know how many times the story looped to include all the changes, remember that Roland has save the tower over a 100 of time in the book (yeah I'm spoiling the book but the comments are simply unbearable)

This movie depresses me because I feel like they chose to focus on this one (frankly kinda lame) aspect of the Dark Tower mythology - the stuff about the breakers taking out the beams - and made that the focus of the film and the conflict. But that’s like…. I dunno, adapting The Lord of the Rings into a single short film solely about Frodo and Sam destroying the Ring, and cutting out everything to do with Gandalf, Aragorn, the wars of the men in Rohan and Gondor, everything to do with elves and dwarves, and definitely no time for Elrond, Galadriel, Saruman, et al. Because the important bit is really about hobbits standing up to Sauron and destroying the ring, gotta condense that story to make it adaptable!

This movie had a couple good scenes but the dark tower series is 8 books total. This movie was an hour and 28 minutes. That's like fitting game of thrones or Harry Potter in an an hour and a half. They need a movie per book or 7-8 seasons on HBO or something

I haven't read the books yet (but I plan to), so I can't fairly judge the comparison AND Matthew McConaughey is my favorite actor (so I'm a bit biased), but I personally felt his portrayal of Walter was absolutely BONECHILLING and I loved the movie as a whole.. I'm not sure if they really could do a sequel but I'd love to see one.
