i went to donate plasma once and a woman came in late for her appointment and was begging the nurse to let her give blood because she didn’t have enough money for the bus home and it was the most dystopian experience i’ve ever had.
@@authenticxted3775Its a pretty common situation, everyone I've personally ever known who gave blood repeatedly was also truly broke, and using busses
I am in shock at that 48 hour figure. What the video didn't cover is that they all give plasma too, which is exponentially more gruelling than just blood.
I was an active blood donnor in Romania and I always had to wait 2 months and a half between donations. I even went one time 6 days earlier by mistake and they didn't allow me to donate. It's just crazy to think there's places where you're allowed to donate every 48h hours.
Yeap, that's the case in a lot of other country. In Russia you have to wait for 60 days between donations and you can't donate more than 5 times a year.
They failed to make the distinction between plasma donations and blood donations well in this video. Plasma donations are very different and return the blood (without the plasma) back to you when the plasma extracted. The plasma is what pays, not blood typically. And plasma, due to how it works, can be done twice a week, at least 48 hours in between donations. It's even benefical for some people and specific conditions too.
You guys really didn't have to make a 20 minute long video explaining how Alex has been blood transfusing the shit out of Aleksa and back into himself in order to preserve his youthfulness, we already knew from the years of subtle hints
Listen, I think it's inspirational how far you guys are willing to go for both content and journalism, but PLEASE DON'T DO ANYMORE ELECTIVE SURGERIES HOLY
*puts conspiracy hat on* Maybe these guys are just addicted to plastic surgery and made a video criticizing it in order to get their fix of korean baby p**s right under our noses.
Dude, this channel has become an obsession of mine as of late. You are absolutely hilarious man. That line about Bryan Johnson having the heart of a 37 year old, lungs of an 18 year old, and... had me dying! Love your takes on just about everything thus far.
For those who wanted to know, the only reason why the mice experiment worked was because the older mouse was essentially using the younger one’s organs. By connecting their arteries together, the scientists basically created a close loop where the younger mouse’s organs where working overtime in order to keep the older one alive. This had the effect of making the young mouse a lot weaker as the old one got « younger ». So the blood itself had absolutely nothing to do with it and it never will, if rich people want to actually become younger vampires, they’d have to parasite young people’s organs by straight up hooking their blood systems together
I guessed this the nanosecond we were told the mouse's organs were working better. I'm glad to have confirmation that it is, in fact, complete pseudoscience and that blood transfusions (the thing that gets flushed from your body in only a month..) won't keep the vampires alive
It's so discusting. I've donated blood for free through my school. I have a brother who was dying from ulcerative colitis, and he had to get so many blood transfusions. Watching him go through that made me want to donate my blood. And to think my blood could end if some rich person face, instead of someone who needed it like my brother. I can't even explain how angry that makes me.
If you don’t mind me asking, who did you donate through? If you’re in the US, that is. Certain companies will sell pretty much exclusively to hospitals and aren’t able to specifically target the economically disadvantaged by offering cash incentives. I work as a phlebotomist and as a medical lab scientist and don’t want this video to discourage you from donating!
The red cross does not sell its blood like the agencies in the video. The video is about plasma collected by for profit companies that pay donors, not volunteer whole blood donations through the Red Cross.
@@keith720 Red cross sells to hospitals and doesn't keep your plasma for profit. They also ship blood via mobile blood banks to disaster areas. you can google the red cross's finances, but in a nutshell their blood arm had $741 million in revenue and $14million in profits last year, which really isn't that much. On average, hospitals pay ~$200 per unit of blood. The average transfusion requires 3 units of blood and the hospital charges the patient between $1000 and $3000, about $600 to $1000 is the cost of the blood itself.
I have never come across this side of youtube where i feel such despair at the end of every video, thank you for spreading the knowledge bro, big fan from india.
I love how you put scenes from Gounod's Faust when talking about "deal with the devil". I see what you did there, my friends. You have my attention and subscription.
My Dad "donated" as often as he could for years and years until he developed a blood cancer called essential thrombocytosis. We don't have any proof that the donations caused it, but we suspect the plasma "donations" played a role. The fact that the plasma might be sold to billionaires-that my dad might have gotten cancer from "donating" plasma-just so some vampires can shoot it up... I don't even have words. On top of all that, now I have been forced into donating my plasma as well despite the risks-despite my dad's condition-because I have been unable to work for over 3 years now. I applied for disability over two and a half years ago but am still waiting for a hearing. In the meantime, I have received *nothing.* This country is vile.
I'm so sorry to hear that mate. I hope you're holding up well over there, it's an incredibly rough place to be. We did a whole lot of research during the course of the video, and there are some clear, negative side-effects, but I think the big issue is that the people who are suffering the consequences of frequent donations are generally poor people... so no one really cares to fund research into it. We just don't know the full effects of donating that often, so I wouldn't be surprised if essential thrombocytosis is a side-effect.
@@Boy_Boy Iron deficiency can cause thrombocytosis. You lose a lot of iron when you donate so if your father was donating very often without waiting to fully recovers it's no surprise that happened.
where i live in Europa we are expected if we donate blood it should be free but we are forced to have healthcare insurance. Also if you do not clarify the goverment systems here about healthcare and you get in a accident you are automaticialy a donor if theres something of value left in you're body so if i realy dont want them to take advantage of my corpse im forced to burn myself to a crisp. But stil i wouldnt mind to donate some blood if i had a money issue and currently prices and inflation are not realy easy to fix financialy. im currently stuck in a ather situation which prevents me from working.. im waiting on a court date for that. But yeah if i could donate some of my blood for some money it would help me a bit. But yes anything carrys a risk i'm unsure if you're dad his condition has something to do with the blood donations he has done in the past but it could be something.. But stil it weirds me out that rich people are trying to inject themself with blood plasma shouldnt that go to people who realy need it in the hospital?
@@Boy_Boybu- bu- but boy boy, the private healthcare industry makes a lot of money so they can invest it in making new treatments! The look on that woman's face when you told her you could only donate blood once a month in Australia was devastating. You can tell she was immediately questioning if it was really that safe to be donating every 48 hours and what that can do to someone's body over time. TO CLARIFY, if you donate through Vitalant or Red Cross or another nonprofit, your blood/plasma goes directly to hospitals. These organizations will probably not compensate you other than with raffles for gift cards and free food, so it’s not something to do if you’re trying to supplement your income, but your donations will be sold to a hospital, not to the highest bidder.
@@kirklandday Not Dystopian at all. If a business can have willing participants make money off of something they wouldn't do for free, then that's just good business for both sides. Just discovered your channel and while I love your videos and they’re really well made. I must admit they are making me more and more pessimistic and depressed with the state of things
funny thing to me is that most of the heterochronic-parabiosis studies (the young blood/rat experiments) came to the conclusion that the young blood itself didn't do anything, it was the fact that the young heart from a combined circulatory system was able to help pick up the slack of the older heart. That's why all the rats are sewn together and attached to one another, instead of just swapping their blood with needles.
~$30 for around 0.5L of blood then being sold on for $2000 is a genuinely insane markup. 6700% markup. There's no way any amount of processing they do on the bought blood comes close to justifying giving them so little in compensation.
@@nihtgengalastnamegoeshere7526I mean it's not a big deal. You just lay there for half an hour and you're done. I'm not really noticing any adverse results after it.
The look on that donor's face when you told them Australia's once-per-month law.... That was hard to see. Immediately putting it together, questioning the ethics and safety of this system. This is why I love your channel. You balance the humor and absurdity so well with genuine and important thesis. Keep it up, boys. Beautiful work.
Yeah meanwhile the lady was donating plasma at a plasma center and not blood. Also "You can donate blood every 12 weeks. If you'd like to donate more often, you can give plasma every 2 weeks." - taken straight from australian .gov website about blood donations
The irony and sad truth is actually the opposite. She is questioning why would they only let you get money once a month. Because She would not be able to get by if that was the case.
a donation every 48 hours is freaking crazy. In Russia you can donate blood once a month and after 6 months continues donations you have to take break for 3 months
It's not every 48 hours, there are Federal laws restricting that. It's Blood every 6 months, only once, and plasma twice a week at least 48 hours between. They even mark you with special markers so you can't go to different centers and donate repeatedly
Right? I've never seen a channel this well-informed but still insanely entertaining. The topics in this channel are ones I've studied for YEARS both for my degree and my career, and these videos STILL produce new things that I never even knew or made a connection to.

I knew about ambrosia for a while and am so glad someone is covering it. The bit I found the most gauling however was that I at least thought they paid their donors pretty well The fact that they just buy it from blood banks, especially since there is always ongoing blood shortages, fills me with rage.
The plasma collection centers they buy from are different than the blood collection centers and blood banks that service hospitals. No blood is being diverted from hospitals to go to this. The process of collecting blood for life saving use is different than this sort of stuff and the people that donate for that (like at the Red Cross, Hoxworth, Versiti, etc.) do not get directly compensated.
This is why circumcision is done so much in US. I had 4 boys and the hospital didn’t give a choice, they just do it. They also don’t tell you anything about it. Sad
It is a huge issue that is not talked about enough. I find it insane that hospitals are allowed to sell foreskins to third parties, and that “companies will pay thousands of dollars for a single foreskin.”. What world are we living in...
in hindsight, tech bros are already kinda like a mythical monster, they grow immensely powerful over time, become more grotesque and strange as they evolve, and their homes are often bare bones apartments, much resembling caves. No wonder they decided to add vampirism to the list
Anyone notice that Elon musk's entire body seems to have changed ever since that ugly shirtless pic of him leaked? I swear these fuckers are hooking up live people and sucking out their life force
I tried selling my blood once in college to help pay bills (it was actually plasma instead of blood, so it's a slightly different process). They required a minimum amount to be viable/get paid. The first time I tried it, I got so dizzy they had to stop before I could give enough to count. The second time, I didn't pass the pre-screening because I was so incredibly nervous that my heart rate was higher than accepted. After that I never went back, it was incredibly anxiety inducing and they didn't pay enough for it to be worth that. They really try to rope you in - on campus, they KNOW there were college students with bills to pay. And even if that didn't rope you in, they play to your humanity. "You're being paid AND you get to help people!" - those were their selling points.
@@reda-exeWhat's the scam? You sell your plasma. Where it goes after literally is no concern of yours. You already got the money lol. It would only be a scam if it was a non profit company that does not pay you that specifically said they send it to hospitals like Red Cross, but does not.
Genuinely started to tear up when you interviewed some American folk because... I am in almost the same position.. and was considering donating plasma just to be able to not starve anymore. I am a 22 y.o disabled chronically ill person in the US who moved out in 2022 on my own and have been struggling for my life since. Luckily now i do have a full time WFH job in data entry but I can afford everything but... food. I've tried everything. Budgeting, all the shit. But I'm still malnourished because I can't afford to eat 3 meals a day, im lucky if i can get one. I'm about to lose my foodstamps too because i "make too much money". so all that being said, it really resonated with me how desperate people are to just survive and live in my country. I literally have been considering plasma donating just to finally not be hungry. It's a nightmare here right now. edit: thank you for the unexpected support. im gonna be okay, dont worry lol and yes, i do eat a lot of rice for those mentioning it LOL but i didnt consider adding beans to it for more protein. As for free options like foodbanks, its more of an accessibility issue for me. But we do have ONE nearby I have considered. Thanks for the advice! take care yall
i really hope your situation improves, that really sucks. its so unfair that so many of us have to struggle like this while some have more than they know what to do with.
It's not ultra tasty, but if you're malnourished, you might want to try some bagged rice (not instant rice), dried beans (much cheaper than canned), and ideally get them from an ethnic shop, which offer better deals than normal supermarkets (Chinese, Indian, Mexican, etc) I think combined they create a complete protein, and are some of the cheapest sources of calories around. A shit. As a long term blood plasma donor, this video made me go into the rabbit hole of researching whether frequent and long term plasma donations actually have any negative health effects. I found several studies that contradict themselves and now I am more confused than before.
Another donor here. Your body replenishes with relative ease. As long as you don't overdo it, it should be fine. Your plasma center does regular checkups and replenishes the lost volume with NaCl solution, yes? I was really disappointed with how disengenious they were here. Yes, the techbro / vampire stuff has to go, and 48 hours timeout is to short. But they blatently lied. They knowingly interchanged periods for full blood and plasma donation waiting periods in different countries, which are not the same thing and they are very well aware of it. Its 2 weeks for plasma in AU, which is very different from what they claim. And while plasma donations seemingly do have a problem in certain regions, they pretend as if it is only used for nefarious reasons. Completely ignoring that the immunoproteins and clotting factors gained from them are literal live savers. It's good to remain skeptical and remain informed - and boy boy demonstrated very well that it applies to their content aswell, scince they demonstrably lied to further their own agenda here.
When I was in college (Iowa, USA) there was a BioLife facility across the street from my apartment. It was super normal to go donate plasma so you had some pocket money to go out and drink on the weekends. They know college students are broke and advertise plasma donations on the buses. Hell, my roommate’s girlfriend was a phlebotomist at that plasma center 😂
@@Boy_Boy Oh boy don't look into US college textbooks and how much of a complete scam they are. Imagine spending a few thousand dollars per term on textbooks that you can't resell, and if you can resell them you'll maybe get $200 for them. It's a massive scam.
Perfect synergy because giving blood drops your alcohol tolerance. But in all seriousness, the times I've donated blood they specifically said that you shouldn't be drinking for 24 hours afterwards.

Thank you for posting this. This entire video just made me disturbed and sad. It's tragic to see that blood that I donated might not have even been used for something beneficial, and just to make some rich guy have less wrinkles
Yeah, it's devastating. We donate quite a bit here in Australia, and now I'm not sure what I've actually contributed... I'm sure the majority of it is still going to good places.
Just to put a positive on all this stuff - my grandfather who had terminal cancer was kept alive and in pretty good health for someone with terminal cancer in his final months from blood transfusions. So at least some of blood transfusions are allowing someone live a few months longer and in better condition then before and I’m sure there are many other stories like this. That being said all of this stuff is fucked but donating blood is still doing good.
@@Boy_Boy The line is usually blood as a whole is donated for the purpose of healthcare and plasma donations (where they remove the plasma and then returns your blood without the plasma) is almost entirely for commercial purposes (research, medicines, other evil corporation stuff), at least in the US but it seems similar in other countries.
Where I'm from you're only allowed to donate blood for once every few weeks at LEAST and you get about $10 in sugar and nutritional snacks + same amount of blood back for free when you need it. The fact that people are donating crazy unhealthy amount to survive and on top of that the blood isn't even going to the right places is horrifying to me
I'm watching this video having once been a poor student in Germany. I have a CSL Plasma account and I've donated dozens of times, by now I've quit years ago. Once I had a relatively decent job on the side, I stopped selling plasma because the side effects are severe, even for a healthy young adult. When you're selling plasma they're filtering out your antibodies and other proteins from the bloodstream which hampers your immune system until your body has replaced them. It took me about two days with good rest and proper nutrition to get back to a normal level (the bloodbank does test this and I had simultaneous tests done by my GP) so the time of 48 hours until the next donation isn't chosen at random, it's quite literally the fastest turn around time. In those 48 hours you're so much more vulnerable, I usually got sick once or twice a year but when donating every third or fourth donation (for lack of a better word...) I would come down with something. It ended up just not being worth it in the slightest. By the way, even in Germany where regulations are a lot more stringent than the US most of the people selling plasma are doing it out of need and most of them aren't exactly what I'd call young and healthy. I've seen many alcoholics and homeless selling plasma. These people should receive help and not be exploited in this manner. I'd rather have a government mandated quota of 2 donations a year or something for everyone to make up hospital demand than having capitalism literally deal in blood.
so glad this video made it onto my page when it did, was considering donating blood if i could for some extra cash to help me through school but this has given me considerable perspective on where that blood would actually go, how it could affect me, and what id even be gaining from all of that
At this point they have to start making "how to" guides on how to use a guillotine because I'm not sure I can get much more angry without a vein bursting.
@PJ-oe6eu as someone who's studied these topics for nearly a decade, these videos still introduce new things to me. I never knew blood banks in America were private, nor did I know about their strategic placement in impoverished areas, fuck I didn't even know you could donate blood less than 48 hours after you already did, I also didn't know they're lowering the amount these people are paid for their blood. Literally everything you think could be worse, ends up being even worse than that. The usa is fucking insane
Fun fact, fifty years ago, when someone needed a blood transfusion at a hospital, they would fysically have someone there to hook up to the transferee. I just like to imagine that Hollywood stars of that time did the same, only with children.
Slight correction: in the US, you're allowed to donate every 48 hours *_twice a week._* in other words, if you "donate" on Monday, you can donate again on Wednesday, but if you've already donated on Monday and Wednesday, you *cannot* donate again until the following Monday. Still too soon, but at least it's not _every_ 48 hours...
Also they kinda have it misconstrued. You donate plasma, not blood. There are cases in which blood is transfused with rich people. But this video is missing the key mark that plasma donations (at least where I worked) are used purely for plasma based therapies.
@@Zman44444 That is true for plasma banks, but plasma isn’t the whole picture. Blood banks do it too, as they are private businesses. It’s why hospitals will encourage anyone who wants to donate directly, as many for profit companies are allowed to visit schools and on the streets to trick them into thinking it’s given for free to save people’s lives in return. It’s just like the “school programs” that take donations from businesses under the guise of helping kids, illegally employ children to sell their products for junk objects unpaid, and bribe the school a bit to get away with it. All 3 are massive markets for the elite, with plasma being even more coveted. It’s still extremely scummy.
@@Zman44444but it’s still the same for donors though, they still give their whole blood. The plasma and the red cells only get separated afterwards, once its already been collected

To be honest. We snicker at the "America is the greatest country in the world" statement. We have free healthcare and would never expect to pay anything crazy for procedures here. We are fortunate and we forget that.
I work at a Plasma Center in America and for the most part, everything that was stated about plasma donations are true except that he didnt mention that you are only allowed 2 plasma donations in a 7 day period that are AT LEAST 48 hours apart. I’d love to answer any questions :)
To add on, i still agree that two donations in a 7day period is still VERY frequent! Ive donated and i can only do it once a week or less, i honestly dont know how some of my donors come twice a week without fail
The caretaker interview is especially heartbreaking. Caretakers I've known have some of the most physically, emotionally, and mentally straining jobs, for just minimum wage (and that's not including tales of worker exploitation I've heard from friends in the industry. And in the post covid world, a lot of caretakers are leaving to other jobs, resulting in more work for those who decide to stay until they break down and leave, creating a nasty loop of workers getting streached thinner and thinner). Doing all that after donating blood every two days... I can't even fathom it.
On a lighter note, when they began talking about dubious celebrity facials, I was like "oh yeah, it's probably that 'vampire facial' where they extract some own blood, extract the plasma and use microneedling to put it back in (where I'm pretty sure the only benefit would be exclusively from the microneedling). I was right about the microneedling, but NOTHING could have prepared me for the main ingredient. Seriously, what the hell.
because theres no money in caregiving. Unless youre giving care to someone rich, the government essentially pays for caregiving. the only way governments can pay more for caregiving is to increase taxes. and sure as hell they arent going to tax their friends and party donators.

Thank you so much for making this. I was nearly forced into relying on plasma donations and I still remember viscerally the desperation I felt coupled with the rage that it would be sold for an insane markup. The importation of baby tissue for the American rich I did not know and that makes me sick and furious. This country is hell.
Something else to know about vampires is that the stereotype of them being awful rich people is actually more of a modern thing - in ancient cultures, a lot of vampires were also allegories for disease spreading and plagues. There's even IRL cases in history where people not only believed in vampires existing, but actually tried to "cure" sick loved ones when they believed they were being visited by a vampire (especially if they had long-passed loved ones that died from the same illness). The results were not pretty. And they were gross af. 0_0
I remember when I was hitting BROKE BROKE and I almost did the blood donation, but my dad talked me out of it. I thought about microneedling but I'd NEVER heard of people having injections of baby penis. Holy shit. WHO CAME UP WITH THIS?? Also: dope sweatshirt with cute lil puppies. 10/10
The one thing the rich don't have is unlimited time. It leaves a lot of room for snake oilers to step in and prey on their single insecurity. Imagine all the anxieties you have, spread through all aspects of your life, simultaneously alleviated and focused into a single point around your own mortality. You'd give anything, try anything to solve it, and you're one of the few people on this earth who's actually capable of giving ~anything~ even the literal lifeblood of another person

I think their reasoning is that to get the believed benefits of youthful tissue. You need to go as young as possible. For which discarded baby tissue like navel strings and foreskin are then used for their stem cells and … funky facial treatment potential. Perhaps Korea is one of the few countries where hospitals can sell these discarded tissues abroad? - that’s my reasoning

I like how you explained Alex jones's rants. He throws in such wild vocabulary and crazy outbursts and gets so worked up that it kind of masks the reality of the things he's trying to talk about
Yeah there's actually a lot of truth to what he says it's just all garbled up in the craziness. Like when he said "they have chemicals that are turning the frogs gay" he wasn't totally wrong, pesticide runoff into nearby waterways from industrial farming practices really does mess with the hormones of the local wildlife and in the case of frogs it can make them grow both male and female reproductive organs. So he just needs to communicate better
@@muffinman3052He's like a broken clock. He says tons of crazy out there shit most of which is false but every once in a while there is a nugget of truth in his insane ramblings
Epic video, as an American, I've been sad about the truth of donated blood for awhile. I watch too many people sell their blood/plasma for alcohol. It's wild out here..
Your videos are exceptional. Really. As a Colombian, it really frustrates me that I can't send this to my father that does not understand English. I am willing to translate your videos to Spanish for free to be put as subtitles. I have no credentials for such work, but I think I could do it nicely enough if you are interested.
As an American i have totally sold entirely too much of my plasma to the for-profit blood industry. There was an entire month where I turned being in rough shape financially into being in rough shape physically lol, I had just moved across the country and absolutely couldn't land a job, so I was selling plasma to two different companies concurrently to cash in on their holiday bonuses. It was bad, I was fatigued the whole time, I constantly felt like vomiting, I was in a very obvious state where I should have been rejected from selling plasma, but both companies let me do it anyway. Got paid $1,000 and wasn't homeless in December tho, so that's nice. I love America.
Every 48h is crazy... in Switzerland men are allowed to donate every 3 months and women only every 4 months lol... I'm a regular donor here and the thought that people do this every 2 days is just insane to me
even worse that they allow actual baby boy genital mutilation for adult skin care lol. now it makes sense why so many people are circumcised in America
It's the same in Germany, only 2 days between each donation. And I looked it up for switzerland too and it's allowed every two weeks. It's about plasma donations not full blood donations.
Here in Brasil there is a limit of 3 times every 12 months for woman with at least 3 months of interval and 4 times with 2 months intervals for men. And we don't get paid, we only receive a snack to regain strength after donating.
Plasma is different to full blood donations, but it's still super limited compared to the approach in the US and Germany... The German model is gross as well, but the only positive in Germany's situation is that the social safety net is much more robust, so the desperation isn't as prominent among donors
i have a major phobia of blood, that even the word gets me lightheaded, but this video interested me so much, i pushed through. very entertaining and interesting!
As horrifying as this all is, it's deeply satisfying to know just how terrified these people are of ageing and dying - and that there's nothing they can ultimately do about it. Oh and on the off chance there is an afterlife, it feels a fairly safe bet that people who harvest the blood and penises of the poor won't be getting in!
@@Boy_Boy Of course not. If you did, who'd be god's undercover journalist to document all of the batshit insane shit the billionaires get up to in hell?
I got told to stop donating plasma for my health, which kinda stinks because it was my only way of being able to pay for art supplies through college. Though having a clear(ish) head actually does make it easier to actually use said supplies.
