@@stvrmhondss5932 PERIOD! Without hesitation! I’m sorry but I don’t want to run an orphanage or a farm as the show put. Id much rather rule with the ancient evil who simps at my feet 🤷🏽♀️. Unlike Alina I don’t squander my opportunities lol
It works in the book but I think he played the game to well and they both called for each other but he is the darkling so we will never know. I mean she was always in love with him and she hated him but that doesn’t mean you can’t love a person. You really never get his side so maybe he did but his greed for power overtook his feelings. We will never know
@@sarar7363 so in the books Alina really did fell in love with the Darkling?? Cz in the Netflix series it seemed like what Alina felt towards Aleksander was just infatuation and not love, almost seemed like Alina just made the Darkling a replacement for Mal since she thought Mal never cared for her when she didn't get any letters from him.. Alina made the Darkling a rebound guy, that's what it seemed like in the series.. Sorry I've never read the books but I'm crazy about the Netflix series and I think I'm gona start reading the books cz like they always say, the books is always better than the screen adaptation..
the darkling before he met alina: “i’m the most evil manipulative villain” the darkling when alina came into his life: “so pick me. choose me. love me” *i swear in every episode this man acting like he’s ready to risk it all for her*
Bruh that scene where alina is showing her powers and everyone is covering their eyes bc the light is too much but he doesn't look away MY MAN DOESN'T EVEN BLINK, SHE IS PROBABLY BURNING HIS EYES BALLS BUT NO, our priority is simping😌🖤
SPOILER BOOK 2 (i mean just a quote but whatever) “I've seen what you truly are, and I've never turned away. I never will." When i saw that scene in the show, i was like : damn, he really meant it :/
@@Anna133199 hmmm you’re right. I meant it in a metaphorical way though. Darkling will always simp for Alina no matter how she opposes him, and I will always simp for him. It is indeed a sad reality.
I just read 2 books which are Shadow & bone and Siege and Storm and I don't think I still ship them cause the Darkling left his mother eyeless but I still feel butterflies flutting when they kiss, anyway I ship them in the show but not in the books.
i love how kaz gave him "he so whipped it's embarrassing" look but in his free time he thinks of bottling inej's laugh and getting drunk on it everyday. boi you're even more whipped than darkles
Yo I died when the Darkling somehow managed to find blue irises to give Alina after finding out it’s her favorite flower from Mal. Like it’s so cute but at the same time, mans had to find out from the rival love interest what her favorite flower was. 😆
Ben barnes hated that move of darkling and the people who watched it found it hilarious... I laughed out loud when he came with the flowers in that scene... That was such a clever move...
As a darkling stan, when the screeners said that we would hate the darkling after watching the show I was scared af but when I watched it I was like ??? He's much worse in the books...
Yes like.....Ben Barnes showed so much of his humanity and vulnerability. If anything it just made me root for him more. So Idk what they talking about tbh🤨
i expected this as well lol im what yall consider "local viewer" since i have 0 idea whats up in the grishaverse. but immediately noticed their chemistry and their relationship is fucking interesting 😩
@@lovedagger I'm glad you liked the show lol I wonder if Ben would make us hate the darkling in future seasons although I doubt it bc after all the books I still love him
@@aldanalisethromero9908 am I crazy if i say there was never a moment in the series where I didn’t like The Darkling lol??? It literally wasn’t until the end of Book 3 that I started to think that he was doing too much in a bad way
much more interesting than the boring bestfriends to lovers one tbh. and that's not even considering their light/dark, yin and yang, two sides of the same coin dynamic
@@magdalenatrukszyn7625 Yes, he said it in an interview. According to him, since the next scene is the one where everything goes wrong for them and it is revealed he was trying to manipulate her at some point, he said he thought the scene before that had to be as sweet as possible, so viewers would question themselves if it was truly all fake or if he ended up falling for her. He asking her "are you sure?" was also improvised by Ben
no, he is not pure evil, he is a mess. A mass murdering, manipulativ, abusiv, selfsabotaging, self rightious, idiotacly adorable mess ^^ He is a villain, no room to argue that, but that does not mean he can not be kinda adorable while at it ^^
@@arianewinter4266 hes just broken. He has the right intentions in mind just not the right way of executing it. He’s spent his entire life being hunted and running and losing people he loves.
@@MysteryGaming101 he is broke, true, but he is not just broke, he made his choices. I feel empathy for him, but there is no way to excuse the carnage he has inacted. At some point the intentions behind it do not matter any longer, what he wanted and suffered through does not change what he did.
@@janewallace5228 writer of the book has said they have big plans for this show, if they can continue it. Not sure what "big plans" mean since everyone already knows what's going to happen because of the books So big plans might also could mean, that they're going to change some stuff but that's just how I see it.
@@blurrylinesx8039 yeah, but at least Klaus had some redemption, I hope we can see the darkling redeem himself, he has SO MUCH potential to be such a grey and interesting character with more of a failed twisted hero more than a plain totally black villain
@@scarletletter2900 totally, but Klaus was pretty evil during seasons 3 and 4 of tvd, backstabbing even his own family for power at times, so there's still time for the darkling. And i completely agree! I love the show but it takes good x evil too literally, I'd love to see the characters becoming more morally grey
Don't get me wrong, Ben is very talented and I love him but shouldn't jessie be paid more? Considering that she is the lead. I also think that because Ben was already an established actor, the salary is automatically higher. Idk i just hope that Jessie gets the proper treatment because she is so amazing.
danielle taylor it’s because he is an established actor that he will be payed more than any unknown of actor that doesn’t have many well known works. Which is the case for most of the cast .
@@mwahaha03 Yeah he's the only cast I knew before, beside Baghra maybe, I swear to god i saw her face somewhere before. I even looked the actress up but the only thing listen on imdb I know is Harry Potter and that just doesn't feel right...
unless I'm wrong and I'm not sure but, I don't even think he auditioned for the role of the darkling. I think it was just offered to him😂😂😂 which thank goodness because tumblr has used his face as the darkling for years it was honestly the right choice he was cast
For real people don’t realize she had much more power over him than he had over her he literally couldn’t live without her by his side from the moment he met her
WHY IS NO ONE MENTIONING TGAT WHEN SHES PUTTING ON A MIRACULOUS DISPLAY OF HER POWER, EVERYONE IN THE ROOM IS LOOKING AT HER LIGHT- EXCEPT FOR HIM. HE DOESNT LOOK AWAY FROM HER ONCE.

I love how the book was like "ah yeah the darkling manipulated alina into liking him, so evil", but the show adaptation is like "this man is so hoplessly in LOVE with alina" - the dude is the freaking Black Heretic, creator of the whole dang Fold and general of the second army, but as soon as this clueless sun summoner shows up and he turns into a lovesick mess-
I'm a bitchass who never read the books, and started shipping them from like the 2nd episode. And I'm the type of person who can't jump ships. I ship to the freaking end. So, I'm gonna suffer.
From the beginning, every scene he appeared in, I was drooling over him, constantly talking to computer "well you're probably so bad, but I love you anyway" and continued drooling I mean just look at him 🙌🏻
That line was also improvised by Ben. It wasn't in the script. Same with the returning to kiss her one last time. He just gave us everything we could have wanted.
@@salehac7 I've also heard that as well... But Ben said he really pushed for it to happen in a interview. So maybe there was discussions he was a part of early on or something. Idk. Either way Ben is super pleased that even the villain asked for consent. 👍
@@salehac7 I read somewhere online that in intimate film scenes, everything has to be worked out & agreed to beforehand, especially since the "Me, Too" movement. So Ben suggested *both* additions to the scene, and everyone agreed beforehand. So Ben deserves kudos for those changes!
His mother is the biggest bitch in the series she is the one who raised it that way and completely gives a fake portrait of him in order to get what she wants Alina to do
imagine being this all powerful man and then just turning into the biggest simp over a girl like same but its so funny i need a video like this for alina tho
Literally all the scenes where Mal and Alina are nice to each other are during their childhood until the last three episodes. There's not much material there for shipping, they're in love with their childhood versions of one another.
@@assholebyginger Also, the point of growing up is to evolve beyond who you are as a child and become your own person, free of the perception of those who raised you and grew with you. Ending up with a childhood friend, especially one that can’t seem to break away from how you used to be, is like the best way to never even know who you are and always making decisions to please them. It just doesn’t sit right with me, I find it sketchy and overall bizarre
@@happyjellycatsquid In the show, they did a lot of flashbacks to show how they care for one another, but in their actual scenes together it seemed really quiet, like a friendship slowly turning into more or a puppy love. So, for the moment we didn't see a lot, because they're making it a Slow Burn, we will probably see more chemestry in season 2. They do love each other (in the books, Alina is obsessed and Mal doesn't really have any character trait beside that and being become a blade), but it does seem a lot like a comfort zone, a nostalgic memory of the past, not something centered on the futur. It's not evolving the same way Alina is evolving and it didn't allow her growth or Mal's growth either for that matter. If they want to make it work on the show, they have to aknowledge that or Mal and Alina would just seem like they hold each other back (which it seems like in the books)
@@alexandraheraudet9395 Well I’m aware that they like each other, I just really don’t get why ahaha ! In the books, from what I could piece together as I can’t get my hands on them yet, is that they both have the personality of wet sponges, which isn’t great. That why I like the Darkling so much, he very much overdelivers by comparison 😂
It seems like we are missing how nervous Aleksander is when he tells Alina his name. Like, CAN YOU NOT SEE IT?! He is SO NERVOUS! It's honestly priceless.
Some way, somehow, I really wish the directors could rewrite the story and have Alina and Aleksander end up together, despite him being evil. The chemistry is just too good to ignore *sigh*

@@jashandeepkaur8203 I think to her it made sense but I would have liked it better if she went to him first. If someone writes a book we’re they are together i would totally buy it cause his stupid mother ruined it and I will forever be mad
@@buckybarnesiskindalife8339 same i really hate the author here why tf she even write such a character at first place if she has to break our heart in the end . she wrote so much passionate romance between aleksander and alina and then expect us to like mal and alina .i’m sorry i can’t i just can’t see darkling as a villain. he sure has done bad things, manipulated alina but he isn’t that evil. He ‘s a lost man who deserves a happy ending
This video is perfection! And the way Ben Barnes is acting is marvelous. He speaks ... with his eyes ... a lot! Im just mindblown. Every look he takes at her is just oozing admiration, awe and an „she is perfect, she shall be my queen“ type of vibe. To me he is impossible to hate knowing his past. He reminds me a lot of Anakin from Star Wars for that specific reason. I really hope he can get a happy end and redeem himself.
I like that they gave the darkling more humanity in the show. He cared about the grisha in both the books and the show, but he was even manipulating and unforgiving in the books. The way he treats Alina in the show compared to the books is a little different too
Because even though he is trying to expand the fold he is also probably realizing how hard it is. Also he as a million other things he is also worrying about and Alina gave him light literally and metaphorically. He became different around her even in the books. He was human with her and he hated it so much but loved it at the same time
Him living hundreds of years with particularly no hope of exacting his plans, only for him to find Alina who was exactly everything he needed that it was almost unreal, and also add to that him being torn because he starts to have real feelings for her which probably is the first real feelings he had since his first love.
Its nice that ben barnes at least tries to understand the darkling even though he did terrible things. To me thats a sign of a good actor, being able to play the villan with the understanding of the person. You know where all humans and the evil inside us always has a story. They say the best villans have the best backstory and if an actor can understand that AND act like it thats the best thing
Ben Barnes could kiss a freaking tree and still make it sexy as hell. damn the talent.. and he dragged Jessie right with him, she is literally hanging at him, the chemistry! the intensity he put in the character, you can feel it down in your veins. please, saints, make them change the story.. we need Darklina endgame.
