"Oh, y-you wanna know about the French Revolution, huh? Well let me give you the short version." "Executions." "Executions *EVERYWHERE!"* "Seriously, you couldn't take a single step in France without getting blood on your shoes back then, it would've been a dry cleaner's worst fucking nightmare!" "And to think, these are the same people that invented mayonnaise... Makes you wonder what anybody's capable of. I'll tell you one thing, I would *NOT* wanna piss off Gordon Ramsay. Guy could probably make Cain look like a Nerf gun."
Totally agree. He has a serious stutter problem, and he keeps acting like something's stalking him, but when it comes to knowing about the Darkness, the Angelus and the Relics, you won't find a better ally.
Timothy Gregory to be honest he's actually got good reason to believe somethings following him all the time. considering his profession and all on the Darkness and Angelous.
All games need to do this. Want me to go around looking for collectibles? tie them into the mythos of the story and give each one a funny, insightful, scary, and engaging narration. These are, to date, the only collectibles I spent time looking for. I wouldn't complete a level without getting all of them, and if I saw I missed one, I'd go back and get it. Didn't need any achievements to motivate me, either.
"Just being near it feels like I got worms under my skin. Worms that are as creeped out as I am 'cause they got worms under their skin! Am I painting a clear enough picture?" Too clear if you ask me.
Brotherhood Agent: The words to activate the Abysmal Maw? You just killed the last guy in existence who had any chance to rediscover those words. Johnny: GODDAMMIT!
From what I can gather from all this, the Angelus's tools never worked, she'll fry anyone who even had a hint of sin and she's way too prideful. She bonded 100 kids souls into a glass sphere and just LEFT it there. Made a sword that couldn't cut shit. Hardly ever fought the Darkness directly, if at all. She never reclaims her tools, doesn't have a strategy to best the darkness, has yet to make an atonement for for any of her mistakes, or even had bloody idea to give her power TO A PERSON WHO KNOWS HOW TO WIELD IT PROPERLY. Reading all this (or hearing the rantings of this wonderful madman) it seems like only the Darkness puts any effort in all this.
I don’t get why the Darkness even stays in this hate relationship with the Angelus. He’s obviously too good for her, he could find a much more worthy rival if he just worked up that confidence, went out there and applied himself. Jackie is a strong, handsome and powerful host; I’m sure someone would be willing to fight him on occasion.
They’re both insane and evil. As long as they can kill the other, they don’t care about what happens to anyone else. In an ideal world they’d both be sealed in the same container so they can fight for all of eternity away from humanity
Jackie: Are you being sarcastic? Johnny: Yes, I'm being sarcastic. Jackie: You want me to kill you? Johnny: No, I don't want you to kill me. Jackie: THEN SHUT THE FUCK UP! Johnny: Okay, I'll shut up now.
Dear game devs, take notes. THIS is how you do collectibles right. Probably the only game where I was genuinely interested in them enough to bother searching.
i never realized how much foreshadowing they had in these relics, especially with things like the last relic "she's not trapped.. where the fuck is she?" ah but she is trapped.. just not in that siphon lol
32:18 Holy shit, Jackie. This is big. This is really big. When the Darkness and Angelus re-emerged during World War II, the Brotherhood was waiting for them. Don't ask me how, 'cause I sure as hell got no idea, but the Brotherhood defeated the Angelus, trapping her inside the Prism, where according to legend, she remains today... But here's the thing, Jackie: I'm looking at this Prism right now and I'm not picking up a thing. No holy essence, no dark magic, nothing. The Angelus is not inside the Prism. In fact, it never even touched it. If I can be honest, this scares the living fuck outta me. The Angelus has not been seen on our world in seventy years. We thought it was because she was trapped. In this! But she's not, Jackie. She's still out there. Where the fuck is she?
If they ever make a Darkness III, I hope they make the relics actual weapons or stat-boosting accessories. There's just so much potential! For example the Abysmal Maw could be used as a hellflamethrower after you get the activation spell from some boss, with the Deceiver's Glove as some kind of assist that lets you stab someone with it (acquire blood) and use the Maw for a longer sustained blast while incinerating the sacrifice! And since the main antagonist is probably the Angelus, which means angelic enemies as well, anti-angel relics would also work. Please make it happen
0332288 the maw could have a bar for ammunition, and the glove would be used to reload/recharge the bar with a brutal animation(like punch through the enemies chest or skull, or rip a limb off).
This was awesome! Some of the stories behind these artifacts legitimately made me shiver in fear. The lore of The Darkness universe just seems to hold so much power. It's also pretty awesome that Johnny Powell read them out. That man only heightened the experience further. God, now I feel paranoid. Thanks Johnny, thanks a bunch.
Matthew Schrier probably on Earth killing EVERYBODY because everyone does bad things and so shes probably going to kill them all kinda ironic that the creature who wants peace is worse than the one who wants chaos
madison pitts Eh, I don't think so. The whole point to having a human host is being able to know who deserves smiting and who doesn't. If the host of the Angelus had no control, the all-powerful bitch would have purged humanity a LONG time ago.
So the Darkness imprisoned the Angelus in Hell for 70 years? I am surprisingly alright with this. Though to be fair, anyone who thinks butchering tiny orphans and draining them of their innocence like little juice boxes of purity is a good idea, is going to a very special place in Hell. One reserved for child molesters and people who talk in the theater.
scott robertson Doesn't matter. The Angelus didn't actually care about the murdered kids - she just wanted to fuck around with souls. There is nothing good about the Angelus. In fact, the only reason it isn't a core villain is because its bearers are usually good folk, and keep its murderous rampages in check.
A lot of people completely misunderstand the Angelus. The Angelus is the complete opposite of the darkness but she still shares the twisted and violent personality. Unless someone pure is in her presence, she is very highly likely to erase that person from existence. The Angelus is just as bad as the darkness and order as an excuse for what she murders and spites. At least the darkness is honest compared to the Angelus and doesn't use excuses to kill and devour, it just does it because it wants to and it's not ashamed of it.
The voice acting for both Darkness games was amazing... I keep coming back to them because of this. I would pay 3x the money of a standard game for the Darkness 3
I fucking love crazy stories like this. I saw the AngryJoe review of this game and he showed us a small bit of this stuff so I went to look it up. Thanks for uploading! Best 30 minutes of my day :)
Because the host of the darkness is a friend of Johnny, so about 49% chance less likely to be killed by the Darkness, while being killed by the Angelus is increased by 149%
The Anglus is more dangerous and arguably more evil than the Darkness because it has no morality beyond 'Light = Good and Dark = Bad' and will kill anyone, including children, if there's even a small hint of the Darkness. Whereas the Darkness is self-aware of it's evil nature and doesn't care, corrupting everyone and everything. The Darkness preserves life for its influence; the Anglus destroys it to keep that influence away.
@@bubblemonkeys That, and The Darkness is more straightforward than The Angelus. The Darkness wants to exist and kill. The Angelus wants to destroy The Darkness, by *any means necessary*. She will slaughter as many people as she has to, so long as The Darkness is one of them.
it's 2018, i want to to see a third darkness game. give it the exploration of darkness 1 along with having a variety of darklings instead of having just one through out the whole game but also give it the gameplay of the second darkness game.
Both really, when you think about it, recall what he says, there's a running theory that the Darkness is in every living being now (at least in this version). Mankind has done absolutely unspeakable things to each other over the millennia, but what if some of these acts were egged on by that itty-bitty teeny-tiny piece of the Darkness inside everyone? After all, think about it, The Darkness may thrive on death and chaos, but recovering a piece of himself (via eating the hearts of the recently deceased) and thereby collecting a fraction of itself could be how Jackie heals himself.
The nephilim were an ancient race of beings who were the children of humans and angels/demons. Obviously this doesn't make much sense in the darksiders universe but in the bible they were said to be giants among men.
The Lantern of St. Anthony? yeah if i was stuffed into a tinny little glass ball with 99 other people after being brutally murdered I'd be a fickle little bitch too... - _ -'
I like how all of these important artifacts collected through the game were just lying around in the back allies of bars, strip clubs, and abandoned amusements parks all localized around new york city
man, this guy is so believable as half crazy from studying cursed items. just superb voice acting. I'm gonna have to see if I can find some torrent of all the darkness comics, the lore just seems so interesting.
I really love the lore behind The Darkness. And the fact that Johnny Powell is clearly so passionate about all of it makes it that much more interesting to listen to. 10/10 voice acting there.

No.... every supernatural think in the Darkness/Angelus/Witchblade/Spawn Universe is real in that fictional universe. A better twist would be that at one point, Johnny was a Darkness Host. He's crazy enough to be one of the weirder hosts.
@CarnageO31 I've read a good chunk of the comics, and was upset when I found out that the first game, doesn't even mention the Angelus, nor the Witchblade. Glad to see The Angelus at least got a big "DUN DUN DUUUNNN" in the sequel though. Still, we need more Witchblade.
Wait, there's "no such thing as a phylactary", aka a vessel where souls are kept, but Siddhartha's Tears is literally a vessel where Siddhartha's soul is still trapped inside?
Erik Hallberg Yeah, but Powell says specifically "nowhere in all the black arts is there such a thing as a phylactery"...meaning I'm going to assume he's approaching all of these relics from a theological perspective.
yes but a phylactery is like a safety deposit box, ya know you can open it and get the soul back out, but Siddhartha's Tears is more like a 100 foot pit fall filled with fire ants that cant kill you, your still alive, you cant get out, and your stuck in a never ending state of pain and torcher.
Erik Hallberg true but they are only alike in that they can both hold things but that's where the simulates end , to put it simply think of a phylactery as and jar, and Siddhartha's Tears as a bear trap.
Erik Hallberg Yes, but only in light passing. Things I pick up from movies, video games, and books I read. When something interests I research it to death.
I was hoping for a Darkness 3, but since that won't happen, we don't know. It might be a plothole that was going to be fixed in D3, (Or it might've already been fixed in the comics)
Borinater3 The healing abilities of the Darkness actually go quite a far ways, so long as the Darkness exists in the host's body and is free to do as it pleases, and also isn't in enough light that keeps it from appearing, it pretty much makes it's host immortal, only magical items and holy light have any chance of hurting the darkness, and even then, it's clever enough to escape on it's own. Jackie gets his head basically blown open with a Shotgun in the game and all that actually happened to him was that he was unconscious for four days while the Darkness patched him up.
Magic my good sir, magic. And, the fact that maybe the natives left some trace of the possession. Combined with the magical remnants of the presence of two of the most powerful being on existence, and a little investigation, I don't doubt the story can be pieced together.
I like how some of the things Jackie finds can utterly obliterate him lol. Even if you were able to use these things as weapons in game thing like the chimes would allow him to truly die.
"POOF! No more Enoch. Next verse!" I love this one. It's just... great. Johnny's english voice actor is... a lot different than his german voice actor (that's the one I'm always listening too). He sounds younger, while his german counterpart sounds older and a lot more crazy. Personally... well... I can't decide. I like both versions. I kinda enjoyed the german relict readings more. But whatever.
I like the little quirks and additions the voice actor gave to Johnny. It makes him seem a little more real. Says a word strange, claims it's 'cause that just how he's always said it.
I need to play this game again, because I was playing this to grab voice lines of the Darkness entity and of course I did it with NO sound, NO music other than voice lines particularly from the Darkness. Planning on using the voice for the Beyond Light expansion for Destiny 2 when you get Darkness powers. However just to have fun and do a re-mastered gameplay of this for a stream or something to rip and rend the minds of people who needs "safe spaces" especially to fuck with the Karens and Snowflakes out there to cause mental pain, suffering and anguish that would make The Darkness happy.
real talk, whoever did Johnny's voice is amazing, the stuttering, the rambling, the tangents, the pauses, gasps for breath, tripping over words, not only does he sound crazy, he sounds fucking terrified.
This is super interesting but I was hoping he would've talked about some of the other 13 artifacts but he only ever mentioned the darkness and the Angelus which are only 2 of the 13 artifacts.
