What do you mean only romance ? My favorite aspect of blood meridian is the love square between the judge ,glanton ,the kid and that weird cat in a bath thing everyone just calls bathcat . I find it kinda weird that this cat moving around in a bath is with these scalpers

What part? What happened in the shower room? What about the quote about Blevins feathers? It is almost undeniable.

Maybe it happened. The captain reveals himself as a rapist to John Grady in the story about the whore his buddies gangbanged. But I don’t think it’s the completely undeniable. It’s an interrogation and the captain is foremost concerned with ascertaining the boys’ identities. We have to assume Blevins was a disagreeable smart ass during questioning, and Rollins isn’t as intelligent or articulate as John Grady, so perhaps making them strip was part of the investigation. Perhaps the captain was looking for something specific. And Rollins holding his stomach could just as well mean he got the shit kicked out of him. My hang up is that John Grady escaped without injury. If you’ve got three boys why rape two and let the third go free? I think it’s because the captain believes John Grady. In the end it doesn’t really matter one way or the other.
