The dawn chorus in the UK, celebrating International Dawn Chorus Day. The dawn chorus can be heard in the UK between March and July. Birds begin singing and calling around an hour before sunrise and continue into the morning. Different species join the dawn chorus at different times with Robins and Blackbirds among the earliest birds to start singing.
The birds featured in the video are:
0:13 Eurasian Blue Tit
0:30 Eurasian Wren
0:47 Great Tit
1:04 European Robin
1:16 Greylag Goose
1:33 Common Wood Pigeon
1:49 Grey Heron
2:00 Mute Swan
2:06 Great Crested Grebe
2:28 European Goldfinch
2:49 Common Chaffinch
3:01 Eurasian Blackcap
3:23 Mallard
3:29 Dunnock
3:43 Great White Egret
3:55 Common Chiffchaff
4:14 Song Thrush
4:35 Common Blackbird
The landscapes were filmed at the RSPB's Ham Wall Nature Reserve on the Somerset Levels. The building on top of the hill is St Michael's Tower which sits on Glastonbury Tor. The tower is all that survives of a 14th century church which was demolished during the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1539.
International Dawn Chorus Day celebrates one of nature's most uplifting sounds and is held annually on the first Sunday in May.

I knew most of the birds in this video from watching your channel! The three I didn't know were at 3:02, 3:28, and 3:54. The finches (and other birds) all looked great, and that tall, narrow, building on a hill was an interesting mystery in the background as well. Thank you for sharing your bird experience with us!

Glad you enjoyed the video! The birds in question are a Eurasian Blackcap at 3:02, a Dunnock at 3:28 (also known as a Hedge Sparrow in the UK but as it's not a sparrow, that name is used less and less), and a Common Chiffchaff at 3:54. The building is St Michael's Tower which sits atop of Glastonbury Tor in Somerset. The tower is all that survives of a 14th century church which was demolished during the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1539 - a very interesting place with lots of links to Arthurian legend!

Your videos are so relaxing. I am usually up early enough to hear the dawn chorus and i love o sit outside and listen while the rest of the street are still asleep. Unfortunately I am in a very urban area so the chorus isn’t as layered as yours but it is still beautiful and so lovely to wake up to.

Lovely footage. My preference would be to have the name of the featured bird inserted in the video itself. That way I wouldn't have to keep pausing to check if I'd guessed right. That said, it doesn't detract from wonderful close-ups and the uplifting chorus.

Interesting that you mention that European Robins and Blackbirds are the first to sing the morning chorus, since the American Robin is one of the first birds to sing during the morning chorus in North America. The American Robin is more related to the Common Blackbird, but it got its name because the colonists of British America thought the red-orange breast of the bird resembled the European Robin back in England. Anyway, thanks for sharing, and happy International Dawn Chorus Day!
