Stars: Michael Whalen, Anne Nagel, William Bakewell Director: Albert Herman A Nazi spy ring is after a U.S. Army formula that increases the power of ordinary gasoline!
I am 71yrs old and love these classic movies. Sometimes I pretend I'm reliving in times past. Thanks to U Tube I am not alone during this shut in p,us I have the flu. God bless I have U Tube.
Why can't these days script writers do not have that much of capability which showed 1943 onwards writers written, so simple but encouraging story, my DOB was 1956 maybe that's why I got the weaknesses for these types of stories.
Quite a good film. Those were the days when men wore a suit and hat, even the villains wore suits. Everyone had manners: stood up when a lady came into the room, opened doors , helped with her coat, and she was tastefully dressed.
@@alban1959 "Yes; I really miss that kind of criminal." The Mafia had its heyday in the United states from 1920-1990. It killed maybe 5000 people in that entire period. And mostly only people who got involved with them. Modern gangs and criminals in the United States now kill easily that many people in a single year.
A very well-made spy thriller. A cast of shady characters worthy of any Hitchcock offering. Well-written, plausible script, believable, compelling characters. Atmospheric settings, taut suspense. I particularly liked the dream sequence. It's safe to say "Producers' Releasing Corporation" were no slouches; even if they were a second-string, 'poverty row' studio... This was no 'B picture'. 👍👍👍🎞️📽️🎬
He saved his mother, his sister and her husband. He was a civilian soldier, who gave to the nation The Supreme Sacrifice. His Life. He had no fear. He was proud and brave.
Octane petrol...based on very real history. What makes this movie "quaint" is that single or groups of patriotic individuals would interact with Axis powers and they took heroic risks. Today it is a horror of surveillance and assassination. No one would have the liberty to move freely or be discreet in this kind of situation. It's all high stakes now.
I've always loved black & white movies thanks to the great influences of my late mother whom I share the same passion with thanks to the people who had posted this movie keep it coming 👍 😀 🙂 👌 😉
They don't make films like this any more! O.K. Some viewers may say "thank goodness" but nevertheless, at that time, 1942 it probably did a lot for morale. Everything about it was pretty awful but an hour well spent is my opinion. I enjoy the historical aspects, cars, clothes etc and prefer this rubbish to modern day junk which lasts frequently for nearly two hours. Will watch another one very soon.
This story is based on fact. In 1940 the R.A.F. had access 100 octane petrol to replace the 86 octane used in 1939 .This gave the Spitfire an extra 34 m.p.h.at 10,000ft.giving us the edge over the Meschersmits.Thank you U.S.A....without the ' secret formula ' we all, probably, would be speaking German now...
Winston Poole, Even if the octane had not been increased when it did and the Germans were able to shoot down more aircraft as a result, it would have made no difference in the end. The U.S.'s overwhelming manufacturing capability made the outcome inevitable. And consider this: The U.S. was having to supply the Pacific Campaign too, and japan was likewise overwhelmed with our manufacturing output. And...even if Germany had been able to complete their work on the atomic bomb first and wipe out Washington, they would have still been defeated and most likely we would have obliterated Berlin with atomic bombs like we did Nagasaki and Hiroshima. But there is a very interesting "what if" movie named "The Man in the High Castle" where Germany and Japan win WWll and they divide up the U.S. among them. I highly recommend watching it.
Anytime I see PRC I know it is going to be worth watching even if it is considered a "B" movie. Those are where they could take chances and really come up with something new. The "A" movies had to play it safe.
This movie was made after we entered WWII and over two years before it ended People may define it as propaganda but it was a very scary time when we thought it could go either way And it would have been the end of our freedoms Viewers should try and immerse themselves in those time to appreciate the anxiety and the fears our parents and grandparents went through!
Big whore USA was out of reach from both of its enemies, Japan and Germany. So, what "freedom" when you could massacre enemy populations at will, while your own is protected by distance and lack of technology of your enemies? The only US civilians killed were in a US colony thousands of miles away from mainland USA, in Hawaï! Its the German and Japanese populations that were to be scared by US terrorists, not the other way.
Alphonso Zorro Spoken like a man who doesn’t know history so Don’t kid yourself . Closest nbr to US was a British possession . I f England went under Canada would be on the demands table. Also theJapanese were in the Aleutian Islands off Alaska’s coast. If the US had lost at Midway the Pacific fleet was fucked completely The German Wolfpack’s ruled the Atlantic & were sinking ships off the east coast. The US was hemmed in& they knew itSo go back & review your world European History. PS.not denying that the US has often been the whore of Babylon but I am glad 1000 year Reich only lasted 12 .
al meggs In the Intro to his book “ The Good War” Studs Terkel wrote that the majority of graduating HS seniors believed that during WWll the Americans & the Germans fought the Russians. I mean WTF? If that is even remotely true perhaps we need to look at who are writing the History Books our Kids are reading . My father & my Godfather fought in North Africa , Sicily & Italy MyStepfather fought in the Philippines at the battle of Leyte Gulf , my best friend in grade school a Jewish kid’s father was in the liberation of Buchenwald . Maybe it didn’t mean as much to me at 17 then it does now but I knew these places were important & I knew why
Al--You are Right--I was born the next year--1943--and from older people and my relatives, i learned " What it was like " during those years.-- Watching my uncles marching in Veterans day parades into the early '50's----They weren't just marching in a Parade--But to celebrate the fact they helped save our 'Way of LIfe ' --"In for the Duration" in the Army meant--You came back in a Coffin or Standing Proud as an American.
"fORMULA" isn't just what everyone is trying to steal or protect, it also describes the plot. The actors are not very good and the diialogue is hokey too. The characters (esp. the "Bad Guys") are stereo-typical German/Nazis ("Vee have vays ov making you tauk!) and lots of 'eeevil' glances BUT it all lends to making this a good and enjoyable movie.. There's nothing else to say except, "Golly. This was a swell movie" Thanks for the Upload & for the comments. They are very helpful. Sincerley, L-L
Laura, "German/Nazis"? LOL. "Nazis" were Germans too. Would you make a difference between Libtards/Reptards and Americans? 90% of the German population was "Nazi", and the rest was made up of traitors.
The "fate" of the world, while only industrial nations were at war, and the rest of the world was dominated by British, US, Japanese and Russian colonialists?
John Allen There was supposedly a " formula" that someone created many years ago, when mixed with water, would actually be like gasoline in a car& ran on it.I saw an episode of" One Step Beyond" that dramatized this, with the host John Newland. If that" formula" actually existed, think what that would have meant for " state of oil" in the World economy?!
Will pan out in a century may be, so oil feudals have generations of good life ahead, with the help of Western and Russian whores supplying the Islamic market in the Gulf.
So this blind beggar strolls through a Middle-Class housing area only to turn the corner to a sleazy "Tavern". Amazing how Hollywood finds locations for filming.
The old Hollywood versus the new Hollywood? I'll take the old every time. (I do admit that a decent film does come out of Hollywood, once every year or two.)

It depends on from whom against whom. If a suicide bomber targets a Pentagon beast pack in his homeland, he is in his right, no matter his ideology or religion.
Germans haven't changed much over the decades. I've visited there twice since 2013, for months ea, and they are an arrogant bunch. In fact, the only thing I enjoyed were the Turk "Donner Kebaps" along the streets. Even with their "pretense" at liberalism, I saw them as no less aggressive than the Russians. Wait and see...
24:37 -- Schultz, the bald-headed headwaiter, was played by Charles Calvert. He was uncredited in all of his 9 screen appearances. He had only 10 TV series' roles and he was credited in all of them. Such as The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show, and also Peter Gunn.
Amazing the movies that were made as the horrors of WW2 were unfolding...the Wachenshou...shows the final episode with Goebells rallying the enthusiastic Berlin people to defend against the Soviets at their gate...Brandenburg gate
9:19 : Tom Fielding (William Bakewell) tells Linda Pavlov, (Constance Worth), as he lights her cigarette: "A little old'fashioned, but always reliable." Try: "Very old fashioned, and always very dangerous!" Constance Worth only lived to 52. And as for William B? Ironically, he made it to just 2 weeks away from 83!
Thank You,PizzaFlix for an interesting historical," real life" movie during the time of World War 2! The person who sacrificed his life, for the sake of the" free world" maybe difficult to find in the" present state of world?" This man gave up his life to save others, how many people would do thatNOW????!!!
A very out-of-character role for Anne Nagel. But, when WWII began, the very talented, somewhat sexy looking, alcoholic actress had no shortage of struggles -- with her career and her personal life. Her most obscure of all motion pictures was probably "Black Friday" (1940), in which she played a nightclub singer by the name of Sunny Rogers -- and in which Jack Muhall had only a bit part, as a bartender.
CREEP!~ Maybe because Ann was "sexy-looking" in the cesspool of hollycrap, she ended up drinking to escape the disgust? Others 'offed' themselves instead. Maybe you could be a bit more generous in your estimation?
I would usually watch anything that was vaguely film noir but this one was literally putting me to sleep. I gave up on it about15 minutes in. It was just too corny.
Everybody just remember you would be supporting the allies in the middle of war. We have all kinds of conventions that are used in movies today that are sorta redickuless also. Just try to put yourself in the position of a movie goer when this was originally shown.
@@DavidRice111 Yep, just a different way of saying the same thing as someone else. You need to view things from another point of view to begin to understand them. But you need to realize that was six years ago and I'm not all that sure of what I was thinking then.
The premise of the story is believable but all the other aspects of production were really bad - the screenwriting was bad, acting was terrible which can be blamed also to the bad direction. May not enough budget for location and props as they were reused in the same sequences of the foot chase and the car chase. Reaction shots were badly edited that conversations had gaps and dead air. This movie can be a good subject for discussion though in teaching what not to do.
