Fun Fact: Twentieth Century Fox invited a group of scientists to preview this movie, to test their reactions to the "science" used in it. None of the scientists were impressed with what they saw, although most conceded that the movie was enjoyable nonsense. Also, Roland Emmerich started writing the screenplay while he was filming The Patriot (2000). He stopped after 9/11, thinking a disaster movie inappropriate after such a cataclysmic real-life event.

While it is true that the phone company supplies the power on old copper lines, not the building, if the Library is underwater then so is the near by phone company CO. That payphone would not have worked because the CO would also have been submerged, even if pressure was maintained on the submerged cables. I know, I had to fix that shit after Hurricane Sandy.

As someone who lived through 2,000 and 2012 they were different things. 2012 was the mayan cyclicar calendar so a lot of people were convinced that there was going to be some world ending event in that year. 2,000 was however purely a human concern due to programing limitations on computers. A lot of the older programs were not set up to handle numbers that big so when it hit 2,000 they were going to reset to 00 (only two numbers). Which would erase bank records, shut down power plants and basically cause all the computer based infrastructure to fall apart. Which was why in the lead up to it there was a huge drive and expense to reprogram the computers to handle larger dates and a whole bunch of the world will end hysteria from the belief they'd fail.

It's interesting Curtis mentioned the power rangers. lol. I was watching a few power rangers episodes earlier just to take a trip down memory lane.

None of the people turning out to be total as***les was definitely the big twist haha, I remembered that for 20 years. JD being a bro by far the most shocking, but Better Dick Cheney being sort of redeemable in the end made it kind of a theme.

Hail can indeed be large, but the larger it is the mushier it gets so it would no longer be that solid, also, hail forms when droplets get pushed up and down by the wind, so it couldn't possibly get that large, at a certain point it'd be too heavy to stay in the sky, the largest hail recorded was around the size of baseballs. Tornadoes form in flat places, LA is too mountainous for tornadoes to form, and even if they did the main reason tornadoes are so destructive in the midwest is due to the types of constructions there, tornadoes can't actually destroy concrete and steel buildings with large foundations. Flash Freezing is actually a thing and in the distant past it did result in animals freezing so quickly that their bodies were recovered almost intact, the main inaccuracy with it is how it is presented, flash freezing happens in a snap all at once, it doesn't "follow" you. The flooding of New York was actually based on a prediction by Al Gore that failed to materialize, he used to claim NYC would be under the sea by 2013.

I've seen so many clips of her from Shameless looking chronically stressed out and exhausted that I forgot a) how young she, like Jake G, was when I first saw a film of hers and b) how much better people look when they aren't chronically stressed out and exhausted 😅
