Welcome to The Frey Life daily vlogs! We are Peter & Mary, a married couple in our early 30's, showing the ups and downs of everyday life with #CysticFibrosis, a genetic lung disease that Mary was born with. In August 2019, Mary started a new CF medication that changed the trajectory of our future, and we are humbled and grateful to welcome our son, Elijah, into our family through #adoption. We have an adorable standard poodle, Oliver, and a hairless sphynx cat, Harry. It's our hope that these videos can be an encouragement to to celebrate the little things in life and find joy amidst a world full of hard realities!

Your inclusion of your son's birth parents gives me joy. I was the result of a private, closed, adoption and I struggled with that gap in my identity. I know some women who place children for adoption also struggle with a similar gap, even when they know they made the best decision. He is and always will be your son, but he is and always will be the product of four families. My best advice is to let that shine through. My parents did what they thought was right and tried to cram me in a cookie cutter to make me more like them. It wasn't fun. Cherish him, love him, and nourish him - even when you can't relate. It's so true! My dad was adopted as a baby and while he went the first 30 something years of his life not knowing his birth parents, his birth mother found him when he was in his 30s (I was 5 at the time) and my whole family is so thankful to have her and the rest of the family in our lives! The most beautiful part of it is how when my dad's adoptive mom was dying of cancer, his birth mother took several shifts staying with her at her house, caring for her, and taking her to her Dr apts and she cried with us in the front tow at his adoptive mother's funeral

Wow the birth mom should be at complete peace . You both will be the perfect parents to her son . It must be very difficult for her to immediately relinquish this precious child , however your immediate bonding was so important to have that instant skin to skin contact. Sending prayers to Elijah birth parents to be at peace with the decision they have made . It’s a guarantee he will have a great life with two of the best parents!

Being at complete peace....not as much. It's still a loss that needs grieved. Just like any other loss. If she needs to grieve which alot of us do, then I hope they understand and respect that. It's not an easy choice.

@@riju3184 I think they mean be at peace with the family they chose for their son. No one can be 100% at peace with giving their child away. But choosing an amazing family is a little peace they can hold onto while they grieve

Ohh my gosh!! I couldn’t be more happy for you to bring home your baby boy!! He is soo precious! This is such a joy to witness. I can’t have kids due to being ill and disabled from progressive chronic illnesses and a spinal cord injury. I’m so excited to live vicariously through you!! I can’t think of a more deserving couple to share this blessing and honor. Lots of love and blessings of health and protection for Mary, Peter, baby Elijah, Ollie and Harry!! The birth mother made the most sacrifice for her son it must of been the most difficult and painful decision she ever made and it was so nice she allowed u to experience his birth. Congrats on u son

As a person who was adopted my best piece of advice is to make sure he knows from the very beginning that he was adopted and that he is so very loved (which I can see so clearly). My parents read (and gave me) a book called "why was I adopted" by Carole Livingston, I still have it today.

Yes. Tell your children they are adopted when they are Day 1 until they understand completely. -and read Primal Wound. Informed Adoption is so important.

It is so powerful to see families being created through adoption. I wish more people would share these intimate moments (I can certainly understand needing to keep them private) and celebrate the selfless love of these birth families. Praising God for the gifts your lives are to so many.

This reminds me at the time her sister adopted her nephew, she was so thrill and excited, now just imagine how both of them rejoice a million times to be able to adopt a baby of their own, something that they wouldn't even dream off until Mary's health estabilized. This is a gift from God, you reap what you sow and in this case is the most beautiful and special blessings, since it was a wish they had always had in their hearts but never think possible. So I send you my love, prayers and all my blessings to the whole family but especially for the new member of the Frey family, Elijah Lee Frey

I'm so glad for all the changes since my children were born. My youngest is nearly 39 now. Lamaze was still in it's infancy. Sonograms were only if some medical issue warranted it. Skin to skin contact, especially for fathers hadn't been heard of. That bondind is so incredible. God Bless your family. 😁👋💖

Even in the 20 years since my daughter was born things have changed. I got one ultrasound to make sure everything was ok with her and we found out she was a girl. Skin to skin wasent a thing at least at the hospital I was at. They just put a blanket on me and layed her on me when she was born.

From adoptive kid to another, your raising and teaching your son not to hate his biological parents! I hope during those private meetings you gather all his medical history, and when his questions get asked you will without a doubt have the answers. Also these same questions will be asked at his doctors appointment. I’m very proud to be adopted two great parents who loved Christ so much they wanted to share that with me. Congratulations you two and I wish you all the happiest and sleepless nights ahead

I've chosen to be adopted as a adult by a beautiful lady who I now call mum. The choice his birth mother has made shows pure love of her child to do what she feels is the best for her baby. I gave my son up for open adoption when I was 18. I was so blessed to have found the most loving adopting family. 27 years later and we are all still close. And my son still has love coming at him from every direction. This is such a beautiful thing. I've been watching since y'all were in a different country. What a beautiful and blessed story you two have been writing.

I absolutely love this. You have such a big platform to help debunk the rumor that you have to guard yourself. so many people are scared to have a super open adoption. There is NO reason to be scared. We have an untraditional extremely open adoption and it is so so so wonderful. Our son was born with more love than he knew what to do with and so was Little Elijah. God bless your sweet family.

i agree, mainly, but there are some circumstances where it would not be wise - i.e if drugs, alcohol, violence were part of where baby had come from.

@@anovemberstar - I fostered a child from age three months to fifteen years, who couldn’t be with their birth mother because of drug abuse and prison sentences (with contact to original mother). They went back to their birth mother at fifteen but we kept in touch - when they were 21 I was blackmailed after refusing to give them even more money (I had willingly given a few thousand over approx two years). I am still impacted daily on the (totally untrue) accusations and allegations that resulted because of my refusal for more money. I still fiercely love this child, who is constantly in my thoughts, but I cannot excuse their behaviour, we currently are not in contact.

I hope & pray that Elijah's birth mom can & agrees to pump & give you her breastmilk for Elijah since it has compounds that humans haven't been able to create for formula perfectly. (Not that formula is bad by any means. Just hoping Elijah can be given the extra things only found in breast milk especially at the beginning)
