The Day I Flipped My Mini Skid

This happened to me a while back. But I wanted to take the time to share this so hopefully it helps prevent this from happening to someone else. Mini skid steers are very easy to tip over due narrow tracks on the machine. BE CAREFUL! Take your time and never rush. If an area seems sketchy, AVOID IT! Lastly if this does happen to you, DO NOT START YOUR MACHINE! Take it to your dealer and have them go over it. If oil goes past the O rings in the engine the engine could fail, maybe not right away but prematurely.

Glad you posted this incident, this can happen with any machine that has a bucket and is easier to tip with articulating machines all the way up to large loaders. Good training video. Glad you were not injured!

Ran these little guy's on plenty of jobsites, hauling around 24" & 36" box tree's up & around some treacherous terrain & have never even felt like I was going to tip the machine. Work smart & operate with caution. Human error here, your bucket was loaded, lifted & you went over the mount of dirt with one track. Lessons learned here.

I tipped our Ditch Witch SK850 a few years ago. It's not necessarily the grade that gets them, its getting them cockeyed or off camber and all it takes is a little rocking or shifting of weight to one side too much. Good on you to call the dealer. We didn't call the dealer, it smoked a bit, but was fine once that was burnt off.

Sorry to hear that happened man! This might be a little long winded but as helpful as mini skids are I think they are one of the worst things for the industry also. They make the barrier to entry easier for people and they are so much easier to tip than a bigger machine. My sk 600 got tipped over by a friend that was using it. Every picture or video I’ve seen of one tipped the loader arms were raised up. Having them down would save a lot of accidents but they are just dangerous in general. The only good thing is your not stuck for the ride you can get off it. Glad you’re okay and the machine is good to go. I think you could have done the service yourself and saved the time to get it to the dealer and paying them to do the work. It’s pretty easy but I understand the peace of mind. Stay safe!

I had same problem a few years ago. It was SK750. It laid on its side for a few hours before I put it back on its feet 😅. Couldn’t start the engine, couse oil got into the cylinders and engine got seized. All I did, I unscrewed glow plugs and cranked the engine for a minute to get rid of oil from cylinders. Put glow plugs back and started the engine. It produced smoke for 15 minutes until oil leftovers were burned out. Added some oil to the engine and never had any problems since.

Your engine wasn't seized if you were able to start it.

I was thinking about using one of those on my property but have realized now that it's to steep. I wondered if you can widen the track on this model. Thanks for covering that issue so thoroughly.

Sorry you had to go thru this. But I’m glad you & your nearly-new mini-skid were not damaged. Taking time to make a video of the painful experience for the benefit of others…undoubtedly prevented someone else from inadvertently doing the same thing.

Sometimes we gotta learn the hard way. I appreciate the kind words very much! That’s the main reason I posted it is to bring awareness to the situation so people know what to do to save their machine and possibly how to prevent it from happening to them. Thank you for watching!

That’s unfortunate. Had I tipped over that Bobcat I rented to redo that lawn, I would have been screwed. I honestly didn’t even give it a second of thought. Thankfully, that didn’t happen. I totally agree, take it to the dealer. Better safe than sorry.

I've used that brand before and I have had it on all sorts of angles. Never had it tip over. You have to take it slow and feel what the machine is doing. Not sure what you were doing when yours went over. I've used all brands of that style of machine.

Glad you are ok, but honestly that's why I would go with the wider tracks. I am not saying that you made a bad choice or wider tracks solve all the problems, but for me it just seems would help somewhat. Stay safe brother, god bless!

Determination right here. This could very well happen again hopefully you'll be safe if it does not get hurt but I think you should invest the amount of time you spent on loading this thing into learning how to service it yourself if a shop's only charge you 400 bucks that means it doesn't take a lot of time. Figure out what you need to do so in the future it will only take you a couple hours to get your machine started again good luck. Keep operating!

if you feel it get tippy, slam that bucket down. Its a life saver. Watching your video... You had the bucket way too high while not on flat ground. Was this a test of stability? Otherwise I have no clue of what you were trying to do at the time of your rollover

When you brought the narrow track and explained to them your plans. That’s when they knew you were going to tip it.

i bet it would of started right up 4 hrs latter. u just need to let fluids settle. if its warm that does not take long. next time give it 4-24 hrs check fluids start it up and get back to work... dealers want ur $$$ and want to waste your time, seriously not even a service tech to come out? AS LONG AS YOU DON'T RUNT THE MOTOR WHEN ITS FLIPPED OVER. u should be fine. flipped may machines lol
