Hi! my name is Evan and I'm super stoked you want to learn more about me!
I show people how to build their businesses. I learn a skill, test it with my own companies and share it!
I got my start by selling CDs at 13 years old. I’ve worked as a fry cook, I’ve mowed lawns, built go-peds, managed restaurants, sold mortgages, worked in Hollywood, and sat at a desk. I’ve cold-called, done graphic design, pounded pavement, traded crypto, and worked on an ambulance.
I finally settled down and devoted my life to becoming a firefighter in my early 20’s. It took me 5 years of training, fire academies, and paramedic school to finally land that job.
I spent 8 years of my life answering 911 calls. Now I get to pursue my real passion, which is building businesses and educating.
My first successful company is called Scorch Marker.
I was building a commemorative plaque for the fire department in my woodshop and desperately wanted to burn our motto “together in, together out” into the wood. So I pulled out my wood-burning tool, plugged it into the wall, and screwed the whole thing up!
But my wife and I had found another way. We created a chemical solution that reacts with heat. We were inspired by RU-vid creators! You apply the liquid to wood, apply heat, and the wood burns only where you drew! Pretty cool right? We invented the world’s first wood-burning marker - Scorch Marker.
Little did we know that this was the beginning of something big. We agreed to spend $500 of our savings to see if we could turn the idea into a product. 2 years later and we got into retail, became a bestseller on Amazon, created jobs, and made a lot of mistakes.
It’s the mistakes that are important. Those are the valuable, teachable moments that doers get to enjoy and learn from. They make you stronger.
Building, maintaining, scaling, running, or managing a business is not easy. But it can be done!
That's why I'm here. To teach what I've learned so you don't have to make the same mistakes that I did!
One of the things I feel I was put on this planet for is teaching. I absolutely love connecting with other humans who want to do what I've done, build a DTC company.
That's why I built my personal brand Vanader. I test the things I'm learning with Scorch Marker, make the mistakes, lose the money, succeed then I teach it.
It keeps me sharp, keeps me progressing and most importantly it help me make friends in the space.
Can't wait to hear from you!
Evan

I teared up while listening to you because I can totally resonate. First I want to thank you for your service!. I am embarking on the same journey, but right now, it is a struggle because I can't seem to get it right. I already lost a lot of money with my Amazon FBA. I don't even have that breadth of knowledge and understanding like you do how to make my business work. I know what you mean about being lonely because I don't know anyone in my immediate circle who is doing the same. I am in a paid mentorship group, but it focuses on promoting the group rather than really getting the support for the clueless wannabe entrepreneur like me. I can't talk about it at work because it causes envy ( ask me how I know LOL), even if I am not making money. I think just the potential scares them! LOL. I am a medical professional, and I also have CFS, but by the grace of God, I can still maintain my full-time job by pacing, so I don't crash often. Thank you for the videos you create. I am getting invaluable lessons from them!

Same feelings for sure. It was a job I loved and I owe a lot to the job, but it also had a lot of toxicity and negative sides to it. I poured a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into my career, but my family definitely took up the slack. I also spent 3 years building my part-time business to transition over. Thankful for where I'm at now also looking for some deeper meaning behind what I do now. I feel like when you actually get adequate sleep and have a chance to just put priorities where they need to go then you find other ways to give to others. @@Vanader

This resonates so much with me. I've been working in EMS for about 20 years, and it's definitely rough. This is a career I loved and has afforded me many opportunities over the years. Unfortunately, I didn't think about what's next. I started in EMS young, I'm not even 40 yet, and I'm over 20 years in the same job. For the majority of my career, I worked for hospital based systems and, in turn, do not have a pension. I was also the young naive kid and didn't contribute to a 401k or similar. 3 years ago, I moved as far away from everything to start over. I am lucky that I now have access to a pension. 20 years in, I find myself asking if I have another 10, 15, 20 years left in me. I honestly don't know, but I do know I want to spend more time living. Idk if that is reducing my spending to avoid OT. Maybe retiring all together and using my pension to start up something for myself to build income streams. Sorry for the long comment. This has been something on my mind for a while now, and seeing this... well it just hit home for me. Great work and keep it going!!

At the point where you mentioned about you being forced to work both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, I immediately thought of the countless similar threads in the subreddit r/antiwork. Did your dad experience these same struggles, policies and procedures in his 44 years as a fire fighter? How many school events, life events, ball games, parties or family events did he miss out on? Was it worth it to him? Did he take more pride in his job than being a father? Work schedules across wide variety of business sectors have changed to almost round the clock, very long hours or just terrible hours in general. Sounds like your Captain in that situation didn't have the guts to stand up for you. I am sure you made the right choice.

Just because parents have false ideas of how life should work, by no means equate to you automaticly following the same false ideas as well. Live life your way cause they want be around to judge you in the end, only you will...they just need to get over that shit real fast. Id be more concerned about why they have that hangup in the first place and make sure you dont apply similar repetitive behavior to ur own kids. Let that toxic behavor stop with you...😊

It’s not a false idea at all, our parents come from a time in which stability trumped family availability. I’m 40 with a wife and stepson, but I’ve also been at my job for 18 years working overtime. So with that said, I’m more inline with mindset of the older generation than my own. My wife is on the other side of it though.

You made your Daddy sound useless with your "Why would I come to you...?". After dedicating a lifetime to support you, you made him sound like a heartless tyrant with your "You would just crush my dreams". That's not good for any man, especially a dad, son or husband. I have to question was it the fact that you quit or your sneakiness and mean words that broke the camel's back? I don't know your situation, so I'm not judging. You just don't seem like the only victim, here . Compassion matters with loved ones and strangers, alike and words matter. Blessings and Love. M glad your business is a success. A selfish, cowardly decision. If you didn’t want your dad to talk you out of it, you should have told him shortly after you quit. Instead, you showed him disrespect and caused heartache and confusion (not to mention likely caused embarrassment) of making him stumble into what happened a whole two months later. Plus it’s an assumption that he “only knows one way”. He maybe only did things one way, but he likely knows many ways. Don’t listen to your fans, from whom you’re seeking justification. Your decision to quit was the right one. Your decision to not tell your father was very wrong.
