Pretty sure it's a combination of curiosity and obsession. When I start something new, I need to know everything; I also become a little obsessed. That obsession keeps me around long enough to actually get good. If you'd like to get good at stuff, the best advice I can give is 'try to become generally curious.' Also, 'practice a lot.' Don't know if it'll work but that's why I'm good at a few things. Also, bojcio is right; I can't exactly say I'm 'winning at life.' It turns out that getting very good at just a few things can be a bit of a hit or miss strategy. I'm doing fine but to describe my life as 'winning' would definitely stretch the definition.

I lived in SCGT and the mod scene for a few years... started on KB, then joystick controller, then Logitech wheel with no FF, to Logitech Momo wheel with FF. My brothers and I would hook up 3 different computers to race each-other. I even made some cars in z-modeler from pictures (which really sucked in comparison to other cars in game). It was a different world in early sim racing, and on one hand I kind of miss it, but on the other there is so much refinement in the sims today, and they look and feel so good.

I wish you described more terms like what "clutching" is and how it enables more "tape", and what "tape" is in this context. 15:51 For anybody else who doesn't know: Tape is used to cover up the grille on the car to improve aerodynamics at the expense of reducing the radiators effectiveness and risking overheating. "Clutching" is putting in the clutch and coasting to save fuel and reduce engine load which reduces heat produced and enables more tape to be used.
@teebob21
@teebob21 2 месяца назад
The clutch is the pedal in a manual transmission car that isn't the brake or the accelerator. Pressing the clutch disconnects the motor from the transmission, effectively putting the car in neutral. Tape is tape, like duct tape or gaffer's tape. They put it on the radiator.
@pchris
@pchris 2 месяца назад
@@teebob21 that doesn't really clear much up. :P I'm very aware of what a clutch is. I own 2 after all. That doesn't help me understand what "clutching" is in this context thought. With enough googling I figured out what the tape was about. I gather they put it on the grille - not the radiator - to reduce drag at the expensive of head dissipation. Not sure how "clutching" enabled them to do that though.
@teebob21
@teebob21 2 месяца назад
@@pchris How much fuel do you burn when you are coasting with the clutch engaged?

@pchris 2 месяца назад
@@teebob21 is that what that's supposed to mean? How does that enable someone to use more tape?
@teebob21
@teebob21 2 месяца назад
@@pchris More coasting is less fuel burned. Less fuel burned means lower engine heating. Lower engine heating means you can get by with less air flowing through the radiator and still not blow up the engine. That's where the extra tape can be used. Too much tape will mean you burn up your engine.

@RickyHardin

@@Drew.DrivesYT it really encompasses all aspects of how you race other cars on the track. There is an epidemic in both real and sim racing where idiots just shove their car in and "make" a hole because "that's what Dale would do" - and it's really ruined racing in both sim and real life racing. Good racecraft is about making the right moves at the right time, racing with respect and knowing exactly what you and your car can handle in a given scenario. There is more to it, but this is what it is in general.

I've only ever done the road racing side of iRacing but I respect oval racing more and more as I learn about from the outside. It really is a special kind of racing in how strategy applies to it. The nuance is insane and executing a plan is so difficult to do. Only criticism I'd have is that you mentioned that Bryan was gonna win before finishing the story of the race. I didn't know he had won and I'm sure a lot of future viewers of this video will be in the same situation. Just lifted the tension some, is all. Looking forward to more stories like this! But that system was build solid and when I upgraded in 2000 to a Logitech Wingman Formula Force, it felt like cheap plastic versus the amount of steel components on the TH. I still own physical copies of all the NASCAR games from the first until 2004, which is about the time I stopped. Disappointingly I never used the online racing option at the time. Sounds like the "certain incident" that ended Kyle Larson esports needs to have a video made.

I had something similar that ended in a epic fail i was proud of. GTA San Andreas 100 cab missions in a row at a friends house i ended the 100th on my roof crossing the line with a epic fail, the friend jinxed me and said slow down 5 second before i crossed the line. we were also drinking. he was pissed but me and his wife found it hilarious.

I've been video game racing since Atari's Pole Position... In 1998 I was Nebraska state champ in NASCAR Sim racing. I completed Gran Tourismo 3 and 4's career mode. I was a top 20 modder and racer in Microsoft's Monster Truck Madness, and a beta tester for MTM2... On top of that, I've been involved in some form or fashion with most real world motorsports, from sprint cars to drag cars... I only wish I had the time and money for an IRacing rig. Put me in one. Please

With the inconsistency of the team we can kiss goodbye a tittle this year... I hope yamamoto and muncy comeback... Helps the team! We need pitcher that can go 5+ inings and batters getting in base!

Played the old school Nascar games as a kid(my stepdad was into it heavy) glad to see its still around...although I couldn't play now I don't have the understanding of cars or racing games and honestly hate having to go in depth(If I had a team to setup the car and coach me idk rofl I do love driving) 😂

Where do I join? Train ? Join ? I’d like to reach with people who don’t slam you into the wall fist turn lap one . Experience on games in arcades and elsewhere in PlayStation …..the tape strategy , wow I had no idea the game had such details …. That’s what’s so cool about gran tursimo , the minutia of details and Chang ability

random noob here that knows little about NASCAR but it fascinated by this story: what is "tape" please?
@Borzke
@Borzke 28 дней назад
In NASCAR they put tape on the front grill opening to close the space off. This limits the amount air entering the engine bay and causing less drag on the car. Have to be carefull how much tape you use. Close the space too much and not enough air goes in and the engine can overheat.
