After spending a month playing this game I'm pretty sure I can fly both an f15 and f18 in real life now
This some clips of me and Jack trying to learn how to fly and the funny moments that arose. There'll be more clips later on of us actually getting in dogfights but there was enough footage for this.
Warthunder video possibly next but might use some old footage that I have lying around of monopoly or something

They need to make one of the multiseat training jets cheap or free. I'd happily hop in and teach people if I could but not being able to put somone in a calm platform that I can take controls back from is a nightmare. The new mb339 being literally 60 bucks is a joke.

It is a high fidelity module, do you have any idea of the cost of making a module like this one? You truly have to be out of your mind to think they can just dish out the fruit of their effort of multiple years for free. It baffles me how much this community is asking for sometimes. AND the MB-339 is made by a third party dev, even if ED wanted to make it free (they already do with the 2 weeks trial) they couldn't

The landings were painful to watch :D Your problems isn't the rudder, it's that you're landing while controlling the aircraft in the same way you would as if you were fast. You may have dropped gear and flaps but you're still pulling and pushing on the stick to go up and down - that's not how you land. You should trim on a particular value of AOA called "onspeed AOA", then use the throttle to go up/down and pulling/pushing on stick or trim to get slower or faster. Yes, your controls are reversed in this slow-flying regime. Throttle controls mostly your climb/descend while stick forward/aft mostly controls your speed. If you pull hard on the stick while in this slow flying regime, you won't go up, you'll slow down and stall. Note that "Onspeed AOA" is possibly the worst name they could have chosen for this, since it has nothing to do with speed and everything to do with AOA. You should ignore speed on landings from the moment you drop flaps and only follow the AOA indicator, pulling up and trimming to put it in the correct value while slowing down to prevent climbing. I didn't see the HUD but you were probably going about 50 knots too fast on touchdown which is why the plane bounced, and also you didn't flare - which is expected, because it's impossible to flare at this speed without making the airplane climb again. Look up some "onspeed landing" tutorials.

Always glad to see more peeps getting into DCS! it can certainly be quite daunting but so very awesome if you stick through with it too. I've been playing DCS and other sims (both combat and civil aviation) for yearrrrrs and I still am learning new things all the time. Some of my absolute favorite memories in video games have come from flight sims, the steep learning curve makes things that much sweeter once you do something right and blast your first mig or gun down your first fw190. Best advice I can give you is to keep trying and learn what works and what doesn't work, use your resources, there's soooo many good youtube tutorials and manuals and such out there. Also I hate to say it, but take random bits of advice with a grain of salt, I'm sure everyone means well, but even just in the comments section, some people are giving good advice and some others not so much if that makes sense. hahaha oh man, fun times Would you believe just flying the plane is still the easiest part of DCS? If you really want to enjoy study sims like this (i.e. feel like you're kicking ass & avoid frustration), I think a good trick is to take a couple evenings to put a podcast or an audiobook or a new album or something on in the background you wanted to listen to anyway, and then just fly around by yourself doing maneuvers and touch & gos on the runway, etc. until the flying enters your muscle memory, just like how you might grind early enemies in a normal-people game to get a handle on the controls (not a perfect analogy since those usually have a carefully calculated difficulty curve to make that unnecessary, but you know what I mean).

In my opinion for what l have learned rudder and brakes are not good friends for take off and landing procedures. Best things to do is in a take off use roll axe to stay lineup onto runway and also work for landing. And to slow down your aircraft after landing use antiskid if available and mainly your elevator while all wheels are on ground then use your brakes softly btw 50-80kts.
@petrmitchell4442
@petrmitchell4442 Год назад
And it’s important to avoid finish out of runway to manage landing speed btw 130-150kts have right rate of descend keeping constantly lineup to the runway and touch landing at the target point (it’s that huge white rectangle btw lineup line) If you not lineup way to fast abort landing and try again 😇
@theclassicliberal1915
@theclassicliberal1915 Год назад
@@petrmitchell4442 I don’t use my brakes for stopping until I have taxied and I’m in the hanger about to park. If I’m landing on a road then I’ll use my brakes to stop if I need to. I just tap my left and/or right brakes once around 100 to stay on the CL while taking off.

Basic flying is something you can learn in almost every sim... DCS, IL2, MSFS, XPLANE... Name it. Problem with DCS is that every module is like a sim itself, you have to learn how the plane you get works, the speeds, the weights, maneuvers you should do or avoid, it's strong points and all that stuff. Also, combat is different if you are flying a post WW2 plane like the mig 15 of you are flying a f18. Getting hit from a missile you don't know where it comes from is so frustrating, that's why you have to learn the weapons systems and how they and the countermeasures works. Plenty of stuff, that's why it gets frustrating, but go baby steps and practice. There's tons of tutorials on RU-vid.

DCS could get around this problem with an Arcade mode that plays like a real arcade flight combat game you would find in the arcades. Points and just easy flight etc. This while providing some basic controls in the cockpit.. Kinda a step of difficulty below flaming cliffs to also provide action packed fun. From there provide a pathway to more increasingly complex and realistic simulation...., as in perhaps a step between flaming cliffs and DCS as well?

But what would DCS gain from that? The game already has a lot of accessbility settings, cheats, editor and so on to make learning easier; and I do appreciate that, a lot. But if you dont wanna learn a complex sim, then you probably dont want to spend that much money on DCS in the first place. Even the "simple" planes require learning of the basic plane systems. Advanced planes cost 40-60 bucks even on sale after all. And honestly, the main challenge in the vid seems to be basic flying, or really just landing. Landing an F15 requires some care, but its certainly not as difficult as a WW2 plane in IL2 Sturmovik or so. Theres nothing wrong with crashing a few times, thats part of the learning bit. Also makes for a fun video, evidently! If you want super easy flying, people mentioned War Thunder, but Project Wingman/Ace Combat is on the ultra-arcade side and super fun.

The video is from 5 months ago so you have probably improved but anyways I just wanted to say that yes, DCS is hard because flying military high performance aircraft is fucking hard. You have to study to a certain degree how stuff works and what they mean regarding avionics, aerodynamics, sensors, sounds and beeps, etc etc. So as a general advice, inform yourself about how to do stuff and then trying it out and practicing. You were trying to land a F-15 at 300 knots when their landing speed is around 150 knots. Just by googling about a DCS guide you could have found out and it would have saved a lot of attempts since it's not really trial and error. So a big advice is just to watch the tutorials, try them yourself and practice on what you've learnt. Do it enough on enough different aspects of a certain aircraft and you'll slowly master it.

Yeah the footage from all my DCS videos are from July 2022 so while I'm better at it now I'm still not good, I watched a few tutorials on basic start ups but we tried to do landings by trialing just to see how we could gauge more advanced but still beginner levil things, we did eventually look at guides tho to get better although it's been a solid 3 months since we've played

@@MJK-GC barely anyone have pedals, 90% only use the twisting joystick. (If you dont have even that then any 20$ stick will have it, until then X and Z keys will do the trick) Luckily rudder is seldom needed, mostly for taxi-ing and crosswind landings. In the air during flight you can get by without.
