This is Canada in a nut shell ... musically ... culturally ... and creatively.

Dead South was my gateway drug into bluegrass. Their best song is Into the Valley.

That is a cello. This is the only time I’ve seen it played like that! This band is great, lyrics are always ‘dark’. You must ck out Colter Wall, The Devil Wears a Suit & Tie. See the live version, recorded in a brewery. He will blow your mind. Excellent musician & songwriter!

These guys are a fun rabbit hole. They got some really cool songs to give a listen to. Black Lung, Down That Road, Massacre of El Kuroke, Honey You, Broken Cowboy, The Recap, Gunslinger's Glory, and Diamond Ring to name a few. But you can put their catalogue on random and not get a bad choice lol

Seen them live, met & hung out with them & they even called my daughter & son during their times in hospital to raise their spirits! They're truly phenomenal musically and as people ❤️

Just saw them in concert. Before the show I noticed extensive lighting and I was just expecting a straight blank stage with just a straight forward 4 guys on stage thing. They were epic. Great performance. There's a lot to them.

fun fact (and if you pay attention to the lyrics you'll pick it up), this song is about a husband catching his wife cheating on him and then promptly killing her before committing suicide. The upbeat tune hides the dark lyrics, all the music these guys make is awesome and goes super deep like that.

My favorite band! Their music is always on rotation in my car and I have seen them 3 times and 2 more times in a couple of weeks! Do yourself (and me😬) a favor and check out their other stuff, PLEASE!

This is an alt country band from Saskatchewan. Is genre music has became one of my favorite. Pretty much it's a bunch of Gen xers that went acoustic. A lot of these bands have backgrounds and heavy metal and punk rock. Another band to check out is poor man's poison. Good video I can't wait to watch more of them keep up the good work guys 👍

I like a bunch of these guy's songs. I'd classify their genre as either Indie-Folk, Americana, Bluegrass, or an element of all 3. The cello player/bassist Danny Kenyon has a day job as an engineer and had to take a year off touring with the band after allegations of sexual abuse surfaced. The charges proved to be baseless so he's back on tour with The Dead South for 2021. The banjo player Colton (Crawdaddy) Crawford wasn't able to tour with the band outside of Canada for a while so banjo player Eliza Mary Doyle filled in for him & sometimes plays with the band but is considered to be a former band member. Crawford & singer Nate Hilts were originally into heavy metal and after hearing bands like Old Crow Medicine Show & Trampled By Turtles they decided to try their hand at bluegrass. Colton Crawford then learned to play the banjo for the new band.

First time I saw this I thought Amish too, LOL! But once vocals kicked in I fell in love with the sound and for sure NOT Amish, LOL. Their lyrics are really crazy up but I love that! Great band, and Canadian like me! Banjo Odyssey has even more crazy lyrics. LOL

The Dead South is not the genre I typically listen to but I have every album they have put out. It's difficult to put them in the country genre, their themes and sounds sounds like something you would hear in a Wild Old West film.

This is the kind of music you get when you live in Saskatchewan , it's the long winters really and the wheat ... just fields and fields of wheat , then yes some more wheat but the yellow fields are canola .

I would consider this group a folk band, they have often referred to themselves as the evil version of Mumford and Sons. Danny Kenyon the bands cellist describes the meaning of the song “It's about a man who murders his cheating wife and is super stoked to go to hell with her, and it sounds grim.”

As others have said they are kinda a cross of Bluegrass and Folk. If you want to have another band blow you away with their singing check out Delta Rea, I would start with Bottom of the river then Dance in the Graveyards You will not regret it.
