If you like Christopher Walken as a non-villain he also did Brainstorm. It's about a machine that records all the senses.

Stephen King stories are always dark and creepy, but "The Dead Zone" is an exception. He was a good man who'd been delivered bad cards. Particularly poignant was the story about Chris. One of the most powerful scenes...Johnny crying over seeing the woman he loved with her husband, Walt. Chris asks Johnny if he was crying, and Johnny just reaches out and pulls Chris close. I'm not used to seeing this kind of scene in a Stephen King story. Very sweet. Johnny cared about Chris and Chris respected Johnny. They were not just teacher and student, but they were friends. This is the one Stephen King movie I really like, and it bears repeating viewings.

I have always liked this movie, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I know you said you don't read comments but just in case... There is a The Dead Zone television series that aired in the early 2000's. Anthony Michael Hall (The Breakfast Club, Weird Science,16 Candles) played the part of Johnny. It didn't suck.

The book was great, the movie was also good and the TV series based on it was quite excellent.

It's funny how Walken's character keeps refereing Sleepy Hollow then he ends up playing the headless horseman himself later on down the line.

I would love to see you take a look at The Dead Zone TV series. While it starts off as a pretty straight retelling of the novel/movie, but evolves into something VERY different, and I'd love to see your reaction to how it plays out.

did the book/movie do the story beat about the parentage of a character like the tv show did? -trying to make that as spoiler free as possible
@MagiusDel
@MagiusDel Год назад
@@bekenotsalony2905 You know, I haven't actually seen the movie or read the book (I was actually surprised at just how close so many elements the movie had in common with the TV series to be honest) - but that particular story beat came up after the show started really going its own way rather than being a direct adaptation, so I suspect that particular point wasn't part of it.

I've said this before but I love the way you analyse things, make funny observations and predict what's coming. So many familiar faces in this movie, including Herbert Lom who was in a really funny episode of 'The detectives' as a Dutch Chief Inspector.

IMHO this is the second best Walken 80's movie; second only to "The Prophecy". (I mean playing an arch-angel is hard to beat.)

They did a good job adapting this to a TV in 20 years back so might be worth a look, it has some surprising twists... actually, I'm going to give it another watch.

The problem was it was yet another series that didn't get a proper ending. US TV makers seem to love ending a season on a cliffhanger and if the show isn't picked up for another season it's just so unsatisfying. Ultimately it renders a show pointless and just annoys everyone who invested so much time watching it. The Dead Zone was a classic example. I don't understand the logic. If a show doesn't have a conclusion then surely a large proportion of the audience won't bother watching it again let alone purchase it. It doesn't make financial sense not to bring a programme to a conclusion and tie up the story. It also puts people off bothering to watch new shows. These days I often wait until a show has finished and then check online to see if it had a conclusion before I decide whether to invest precious time watching it. Hopefully the tide is turning with the advent of streaming services. They seem more inclined to have self-contained seasons and to announce in advance when a show is going to have a final season.

@@jjc5407 Yes, the ending was unfortunate, but I don't hold out much hope for more modern (sci-fi/fantasy) shows as many (not directly based on books) tend to be messy or we get the multiverse nonsense where they're trying to make it endless & interconnected.
