When I was training to become a welder, my instructor told me that the only reason he didn’t encourage me to get into underwater welding was due to the fact I was married and he didn’t wanna make her a widow.
Used to work offshore as a commercial diver and was certified to weld underwater. Its kinda funny... you start the arc and can feel the electricity when welding. Honestly I miss the job bro.

ya, if you're cool with some multi-month on the clock jobs there are some great opportunities. The guys I knew that did it could work as much or as little as they wanted. This was years ago but I doubt it has changed much.
im learning structural and pipe welding on uncle sams dime at a trade school and the pay immediately got my attention, what do you need to do to become a UWW and women hate my guts so i dont have to worry about making anyone a widow
Right there with you Nikko my Dad told me Jaws was a great movie when I was 6, and since then I don't do deep dark water, I would be constantly surrounded by a brown cloud as I would lose all sphincter control.
Another fun little fact about underwater welding is the light attracts barracuda so the welders will look over there should, see a snagly toothed demon fish lurking behind them and then keep working
We have sacrificial anode's in our hot water tanks. You can make your hot water tank last longer by replacing the anode every few years, but it can be difficult to replace.
Easier way to explain the anode thing is: Rust likes boat metal underwater. Rust likes anode metal underwater way more. Stick some anodes on and most rust goes to eat that and not the boat. Boat metal lasts 30 years but costs 30k. Anodes last 2 but cost like 1/100th the price.
I’m a pipe welder myself and have considered being an underwater welder for years, I already make six figures down here in Florida being above ground. I’m happy to be able to go home every weekend and go out on my boat or Jetski. BUT yall give me a 50k completion bonus I’d sign up..
My Indonesian friend told me things are inexpensive there. Like $14 will buy a feast for 6 at a restaurant. So the pay the welders are getting is really good. But most people make so little that the $14 feast is more expensive to them than a feast for 6 would be for us here in the US.
I’m pretty sure I know all the Subnautica fans no he’s not gonna survive if he even looks into deeper water like the floating island or above the void.
