THE DEAN WADE GAME: How an unlikely hero saved the Cleveland Cavaliers on Kelce Night at RMFH

Dean Wade did the unthinkable on Tuesday night.
The Cleveland Cavaliers backup forward went supernova in the 4th quarter, outscoring the Boston Celtics by himself.
The scoring outburst was much needed with Donovan Mitchell sidelined with a knee injury, and it helped the Cavs secure a big time win over the red-hot Boston Celtics.
Wade is now just the second player in the league to shoot 100% from deep in a 4th quarter this season with at least five attempts, joining Max Strus who did it last week against the Mavs.
With every one of Dean Wade's shots that splashed through the net, the Cavaliers got closer to the Celtics and his confidence grew.
“The rim looked like a swimming pool,” he said.
Wade made five 3-pointers and scored 20 points in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Celtics by himself, and Cleveland won a replay review in the final second to stun Boston 105-104 on Tuesday night, ending the NBA's longest winning streak this season at 11 games.
With NFL star Travis Kelce urging on Cleveland's crowd from a courtside seat, the Cavs overcame a 22-point deficit in the final period, the biggest fourth-quarter comeback in franchise history.
“Honestly, when the Kelce brothers started hyping up the crowd, we knew we could do it,” Cavs center Jarrett Allen said.
Cleveland stormed back without All-Star Donovan Mitchell, who missed the game with a knee injury, as well as forward Evan Mobley, who went out with a sprained ankle in the third quarter.
Wade, who finished with a career-high 23 points, came to the rescue with his barrage of 3s in the fourth and a putback dunk with 19.1 seconds left that put the Cavs ahead 105-104.
The Celtics looked for a final shot and All-Star Jayson Tatum, who led Boston with 26 points, appeared to draw a foul on Cleveland's Darius Garland while shooting a fadeaway jumper with 0.7 seconds left.
The Cavs challenged the call, and following the review, officials said it was Tatum's leg that caused the contact and not Garland.
“I thought it was great defense,” said Garland, who wasn't positive the call would go his way. “I knew the leg kick was kind of in play. My shin still kind of hurts from it, so I’m glad that it was overturned.”
Tatum felt Garland made enough contact to warrant free throws.
“I thought I was fouled, but they (refs) didn’t think I got fouled, which was tough because we would have got the tip-in,” he said. “It’s a weird way to end the game.”
It was the latest stirring win at home for the Cavs, who beat Dallas last week on Max Strus's 60-foot shot at the buzzer.
Following the game, Wade, who grew up in Kansas and is a die-hard Chiefs fan, said Kelce made him an offer.
“He said if basketball didn’t work out for me, I could be a backup tight end,” Wade said. “I got good hands. That was just awesome. Pretty cool.”
The Cavs are counting on Wade to be more consistent, especially not being at full strength.
“He’s a multifaceted guy. He’s not just a spot-up shooter,” Cavs coach J.B. Bickerstaff said. "We know the things he can do defensively. But he has an offensive game and tonight he got it rolling.
“But the belief, the confidence, that’s who Dean Wade is at his core.”

Ask yourself this: if Evan Mobley had not left the game with an injury, is there ANY chance JB Bickerstaff would have had Dean Wade on the floor? No, and that comeback never happens.

We have to start seriously looking at DGs late-game decision-making. Should he be on the bench late game?

I said end of last year that Evan Mobley had to come back with an arsenal or an offensive bag. We're seeing what this team could be if we get solid production from the 4 spot. Moral of the story: if you wear #4 in cleveland PLEASE get your shit together! PLEASE

So, Wade, Ocoro, And allen were the main stays of the line up that won seventeen out of eighteen games or whatever. Last night okoro was 4 of 8 from beyond the arc. Wade was 6 of 9 from beyond the arc. They are both shooting forty percent from beyond the arc this year. Ocoro is known as a defensive stalwart. Did any of you hear the commentary by the TNT commentator sitting next to shack yesterday? He said that Dean Wade was the number one rated defender in the NB A. When these two guys are on the floor at the same time, The cavs are difficult to beat. Along with allen, this is why teams had trouble scoring over a hundred points against them. Pundits like yourself make a big deal of the offensive output yesterday. These guys are elete defenders. They need to be starting and finishing games alongside donovan mitchell and allen. Garland and Strus need to come off the bench.

Let's not be knee jerk reactionary here and think getting rid of mobley is wise. Moving the lineup around, absolutely.

DGs shooting is more vital than his handles & passing. The 1/2 court offense has 2 nclude Evan & JA as facilitators & not just as P&R set men. The offense at times is predictable with DG being the ball handler. JB & DG need 2 talk about his nu Steph Curry like role on offense ASAP. JB have 2 get back 2 using r bigs as 1/2 court facilitators with JA as the primary 1 n r offense. A healthy Evan has more upside than JA, but JA is more efficient w/the ball. We also need 2 get back 2 the off ball movement 2 generate open jump shots & back cuts 2 the rim. JB has 2 continue empowering Wade like he did last night. He would benefit from this type of offense. Also being used as an off ball screener/P&R set man will give Wade better looks @ the basket. Evan should have this role if he can set a stronger pick. Evans's more of an off ball screener, since he is looking 2 cut 2 the basket more than set a strong screen. If Evan doesn't, Wade will.
