Please join us in a discussion with Q&A about the Death Doula movement with Dianne Gray and Kimberly Paul. Hear the amazing journeys of these two women as they share their own experiences, which led to their mission to help others facing death or loss of a loved one. They will give a brief history of the death doula movement and discuss where it is headed in the future, then answer questions from the participants.
About the Panelists: Dianne Gray has been a Death Doula for more than 30 years and has been a global keynote speaker, author, TV/radio host and guest, and President of the Elisabeth Kubler-Ross Foundation. Kimberly Paul left her job in the entertainment industry when she felt a calling to work as an advocate for patients facing end of life and to motivate them to take charge of their journey. In 2018, Kimberly published “Bridging the Gap: Life Lessons of the Dying."

Thanks for keeping this presentation up here! It's 2024 now and I'm finding it so valuable. I am a retired RN, very comfortable with navigating the health care system and advocating for patients/family. This is what I have done for my own family and want to help others in this part of life's journey.

When I was a super young nursing student I got to hear Elizabeth Kubler Ross speak. My soul was forever changed. I’ve been an RN for 43 years and I think this might be what my calling is now!!

Kimberly gets it!! It is SO refreshing to find someone who understands govt regulations often greatly hinder care!!!! The truth is though, as soon as Medicare touches it, it gets regulated.

Exactly!!! I'm a nurse and my dream is to open a Hospice House (something we don't have in my area) and I am unable to do it because Medicare only pays $150/day for hospice and there is no way that is sustainable for anyone unfortunately! It breaks my heart because people around here don't have options

@@kimscott5683 you know how I'm able to afford a wonderful hormone specialist? He doesn't take insurance. He has excellent reviews, wonderful bedside manner & his prices are very affordable. Least about of govt possible, no insurance, less cost.

I just ran in to this. I am a retired RN with home care, hospice care and psych experience. I get it all about what your talking about. I am wondering how I could get certification and open a business in NYS.

I am an RN who works in the disease care system. I am drawn to this work, just wondering if there's value in being able to do both the medical and death doula roles. I would have to work under a doctor if I do anything medical, correct? Having my own practice and focusing more on the spiritual and less medical does appeal to me.

We are sure there would be a lot of value in doing both medical and death doula roles. A recent NPHI survey found that less than 20% of patients have discussed their end-of-life wishes with their physicians. There is room for improvement here. Here's a link to that survey's results in case you're interested: www.hospiceinnovations.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/NPHI-Survey-Views-and-Experiences-of-Aging-End-of-Life-Care-in-the-US.pdf To answer your question- as an RN you likely would have to work under a doctor if you are doing anything medical; you are correct. Thank you for your response!
