Simple explanation is it requires any service that provides access to the internet can't skew the search results in favor of certain sites that pay a fee (or advertise) to that internet access provider; the search results are kept neutral and random. Example is Google could not put General Motors at the top of a list of search results for automobile companies if GM paid Google a truck load of money for advertising. The search results should be random and could come up with Ford, Toyota, Chrysler, Tesla, Mazda, Hyundai, or any other car company (including GM) as the top result. It starts drifting into the necessity of FCC/FTC regulation as someone has to watch to make sure the neutrality of search engine results is being maintained.
a question for Luke you keep mentioning everybody ditching their traditional cable companies and going to court cutting like T-Mobile 5G or something like that then why is it that I come back to my cable company something you've missing here they're raising prices on fixed wireless access and slowing people down because they're getting too many people on their systems so I went back to my traditional cable company got a good deal got gig speed internet for the same price as what I was with T-Mobile so answer me that why are people going back to the cable companies??
Fixed home wireless internet from T-Mobile Verizon AT&t they're slowing people down and raising rates because they're over capacity too many users put back to traditional cable got good deal
Just look at who is against it. Big telecom and cable companies. There spending gobs of money trying to convince people it's a horrible idea. Remember if Comcast thinks it's a bad idea it's probably good for you .
I was told by Crimecast that IF I deleted my cable and home landline service my price for internet would actually go up !! And IF I canceled my service (even after being a customer for 10 yrs) and then come back to them I'd be paying much more for service. Geesh I was paying $250 a month for one TV outlet and home landline and internet.
Is Comcast's issues a surprise? In the past they have shown a disregard for their customers with issues from hidden fees to horrible/incompetent customer service. Lay on top of that a consistent attitude of a monopoly which they were in many regions. They often fought communities trying to create their own local based telcos born of frustration with Comcast and their ilk. As far as I'm concerned they have made the bed that they are now lying in, so good riddance, adapt or die.
I was with Crimecast for 10 years and don't regret cutting the cord. I now have T-Mobile 5g internet and my cell plan too and YT Tube for less than Crimecast was. NO more equipment fees NO more broadcast fees and Local sports fees. NO more increases all the time in my super duper 'bundled plans'.. I was paying $250 a month for one TV outlet with Crimecast. I (for one) know they will lose millions more customers simply due to their greed
Agreed, as most times you dont end up saving money. Its more of a "convenience" but trust me, these companies are including that cost in your monthly bill lol
I live in a pretty rural area. Local phone company is unlimited, but it's almost $50 for 20mb down, and 2mb up. Hate the cable company because they have data caps while the phone company does not. Another company is running fiber throughout my town now, so new options are on the horizon. For the fiber they put a flier on my door. $35 a month for two years, then as long as you don't cancel it would then be $68 a month permanently with no increases. And the speeds would be dramatically faster than my current DSL. Phone company is also going to offer fiber eventually. So having more than two providers should make things competitive for the first time.
T-Mobile home internet is not available for alot of people. They say it's due to not wanting to congest an area with too much traffic. This tells me T mobile has scalability issues.
Just got Sonic Fiber 10 gig, well 2.5 gig for me and my network for $49, getting rid of Xfinity 1 gig for $109...no brainer. Been waiting for Sonic to get where i live.
As a linear cable TV provider, definitely. But as an _Internet_ provider, not likely. Reason: Comcast is by far the largest provider of 250 mbps speed and above high-speed Internet in the USA, and Comcast just started rolling out DOCSIS 4.0, which may allow download and upload speeds way over 1 gbps. I expect the only linear TV left by 2030 will be sports and news channels.
Take a look at the broadband nutrition label for Xfinity's 300mbs service. The typical latency is 14.123 milliseconds compared to my fiber connection which only has 8.570 milliseconds of typical latency. Xfinity's gives you 2.3 more times the latency as fiber. Latency is what causes buffering when you stream anything on a Xfinity's internet. There is so much buffering on Xfinity's that you are forced to constantly reboot your router at home. I have never had to reboot router as single time with my fiber connection, because of buffering.
@@JohnPollack-em8xj I've never had any issues streaming Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and MAX on my Xfinity service. Mind you, the combo cable modem /router I use from Xfinity has served me very well. And the buffering issue will likely go away once DOCSIS 4.0 with its much better connectivity in download and upload becomes universal on Xfinity by the end of 2025. Yes, fiber connections can be faster, but it's still a hit-and-miss situation for availability in much of the USA. It's only since about 2019 that fiber optic to the home became widely available in the major metro areas.
Comcast is killing themselves with their high prices and by NOT offering unlimited DATA for streamers unless you pay extra for it! At&t is now killing them with unlimited DATA! GOODBYE COMCAST! I Won't Miss You!
I find this very interesting. As a former owner of CMCSA (Comcast), I am generally aware of the health of this company and it does appear to me to be healthy. My broker essentially states that this company is technically a sell, but fundamentally a buy! If I owned shares, I seriously doubt that I would be selling. What does so called "cord cutting" have to do with anything?
QUESTION FOR LUKE: How about designating 1 day out of the week to just answer questions from your audience? By doing this, more people will get their questions answered. If you don't have enough questions, then it's business as usual, but I've seen numerous times where people have asked questions and don't get an answer. Im not trying to tell you how to run your business. Im just offering suggestions. Also, as one commenter suggested, a more in-depth explanation about " Net Neutrality " and just what it is and what it means to us and our pocketbook. Have a great day with your family.
For too many of us, there really are no good options for high speed internet. I only live about 5 miles outside of town, but we have no fiber, no cable, no DSL, no 5G, about the only options we have are terrestrial wireless (which is very unreliable) or conventional satellite service (slow, data caps, goes out in bad weather). Starlink? Not on our budget! We’ll have to see what Amazon brings to the table, but I’m not holding my breath……
I get so much content on RU-vid premium I'm cutting cable. YAY. I havent used cable in 4 months. Why haven't I cut. So much free content on antenna too.
Where I live I can only get Comcast & AT&T DSL. No fiber optic internet availability is available in my area. Yes I can get AT&T Internet Air but I was told not to get it if my cellphone signal is weak which it is. This is very frustrating because I don't live in the middle of nowhere, I live between two major cities. Plus anytime I've contacted AT&T all I am told is we may or may not roll out Fiber internet in your area that I live in. I don't understand why there's so little choices. I guess companies hate Michigan. 🤷
Depending on the model of modem AT&T’s Internet air provides. You should be able to connect an external antenna to the modem. Some of these Yagi directional antennas you can connect to them can project in a single direction for miles to strengthen your signal.
Same situation. It seems if you live in any congested area they won't run fiber & t mobile will be unavailable because they can't handle concentrated volumes in specific area. We are 20 min outside of Philly & Comcast monopoly is still in places. Comcast bangs us for $90 month for just internet for 250mbs speed.
I dumped Xfinity for Verizon FIOS as soon as fiber, became available at my old address. I have been a Verizon customer for many years. I am paying only $64.99 for gigabit speed internet, with a 4 year price guarantee. The price will up to $99.99 in four years. If I were with Xfinity for 4 years I would be paying $350 a month for gig speed internet with a lot of latency.
Right now it would be nice to be able to switch to Verizon but their service has declined so badly in the Clayton county, Georgia area. I'm two blocks from the police station and I get one bar of 4G. The only time I see 5G is when I'm driving within 3 miles of a Verizon location. That service certainly can't provide me with internet.
We have very fast T-Mobile cell service (500+) about 2 miles away but almost nothing at our house. Would love to get T-Mobile internet. AT&T and Verizon are also poor in my neighborhood.
COMCAST IS THE MOST HATED COMPANY IN AMERICA. FOR A GREAT REASON. EVERY SINGLE YEAR SINCE I'VE BEEN WITH THRM, I HAD YO SPEND HOURS ON THE PHONE ARGUEING WITH THEM ABOUT RAISING THEIR PRICE. I WENT TO T-MOBILE AND COULDN'T BE HAPPIER
I agree. I am glad we dropped Xfinity-Comcast for Cable TV and Home phone almost 2 years ago. We still have Xfinty Broadband Internet, and wonder if after 2 years soon will raise internet charges? Yes they are obnoxious to deal with. When we move back to the NYC area, we do not want to go back to Optimum, a pain to deal with too. We will try to obtain TMobile for Internet. 😊
@@raymondmartin6737 of you can, I suggest tmobil internet. What I did was get tmobile while keeping Comcast to make sure it was going to work. After 4 months, all was great. I'm locked in at 40.00 month because we also have tmobil cell service. We watch 4k movies without issue too. Comcast sends me info every month to get me back. SCREW them.
Comcast dug their own grave. Their super poor customer service (especially by phone) and penchant to arbitrarily raise you costs without really caring what you think has made customers search out other options. When I returned my equipment they did not even ask why...... I guess they knew. Still have their internet due to poor choices in my area but carefully monitoring future opportunities.... F U Comcast
I am delirious over T-Mobile Wireless service! Half the price or more, and the bonus is that you can easily take it with you in your RV! I have gotten 89Mb/s in a RV park! Spectrum is running ads targeted directly against the T-Mobile Gateway, it is such a threat. You can go online to check the coverage map in your vicinity. My town is completely covered. This represents a major threat to fixed installations. I've not had more than a few buffering situations when 5G got really busy. When that happens, I reset my gateway and get a newer link. Simple!
No way am I willing to move to wireless internet any time soon. Too unreliable. Comcast sucks but my internet works great. I do however plan on shopping around when their NOW service becomes available everywhere. I don't use or need the 800 mbps of my current tier.
I just canceled my cable (Comcast Now) after 30 plus+ years At&t just dropped Brand New Fiber on every utility poles in my whole town and finally finally Fiber to Premises!!!! At&t sent their whole sales team to every house in the area. All I know is within a week everyone on my Block except one person had an At&t tryck in front of their houses, Hell me & my neighbor went to comcast to return our cable modems and as we were sitting in the comcast store and we noticed 3 other people sitting with their cable modem and/or Cable TV boxes and my neighbor asked and 2 out of 3 just got Fiber like us & 1 got Verizon 5g Home internet we should of taken bets on how many people were there to cancel lol
Question for Luke: Why is it in most areas that there is only one traditional cable provider? It there some sort of non-competitive agreement among them?
A few friends of mine refer comcast as cumcast for a reason, they hate their service and they live in area where is no other choice. Similarly I'm stuck with spectrum, and tmobile doesn't serve my street but yet, they service the street over.
a question for Luke you keep mentioning everybody ditching their traditional cable companies and going to court cutting like T-Mobile 5G or something like that then why is it that I come back to my cable company something you've missing here they're raising prices on fixed wireless access and slowing people down because they're getting too many people on their systems so I went back to my traditional cable company got a good deal got gig speed internet for the same price as what I was with T-Mobile so answer me that why are people going back to the cable companies??
i cannot see how they can offer 30 or 40 dollars wifi internet and have wired internet double or triple the money with a cap. anything that demotes them is good.
I understand people get upset with the prices going up Comcast and all that don't you think that the prices will go up what you have now my family had Comcast since the 70s plus I'm happy now with just a basic but if I got everything else it will cost me over $100 and some dollars the last time I had something it was like $115 so now I just have the basic and I buy movies and all that and I keep them
Is there enough radio spectrum to provide sufficient data speeds to large numbers of customers in a given area? Would not seem like it to me. I live in an area of town that is famous for NOT having sufficient mobile service which is amazing considering the neighborhood. That is why I am still subscribed to my local cable company for internet service only. Phone naturally is on wifi calling. Should there be more options? Absolutely but my thing is "content", people should spend less time in front of a screen and ore time with family and friends.
Cable will more than likely be completely gone by the end of the decade. Several companies have already either shuttered completely, been bought out by others or have gone to being a streaming TV provider only, pushing it's legacy customers over to that platform. It will get to the point that it will be pointless to offer a service when it will become more costly to operate because there are fewer and fewer subscribers left.
Why do you hate Comcast so much? I have TMobile as my wireless carrier but while their coverage at my house is better it would not work for me internet-wise so I will stick with Comcast which gives me gig speeds. If I canceled TV from Comcast I would be paying just about the same with any other service to get the channels I watch so there is no savings to be found by cutting the cord in my case.
He's mentioned in the past he has a variety of services. Makes sense since he is doing this Cord Cutters News gig so he can test out all the options. Coaxial cable, fiber cable, 5G, satellite, OTA, maybe others, too.
Luke isn't trying to sell any particular option. All he is doing is giving people the tools and information to make the decision that best fits their situation. For some folks yet, depending on where they are located, cable is still the best current option, and he is very open and honest about this.
