What's great about this. V2 was never the rival. V2 was merely the competition. The emotion in the voice lines shows that Gabriel is not only your rival, but your antithesis. He is the anti you. A punishing force created by God to destroy anything that would stand in the way of the kingdom of heaven. In essence Gabriel's very existence is to destroy you (the player) and yet he can't, he can only sit there and watch in horror as you do the very things he was created to stop. When he screams out "Is this what I lost to?" He's not asking you. He's asking god, his creator. But defeating him you denied him his very reason for existence. He hates you. His hatred will consume him. Until he becomes a husk, an automaton with a single directive. Destroy the machine. And he will burn all of heaven and hell to complete his mission. His very reason for existence.

I love the way he says "May your woes be many... heh... and your days few" after the second fight It's no longer a threat, it's more like a goodbye, as if it's an inside joke between him and V1

Gabriel: "Now peek this sick organ solo, Machine"

I felt so intimidated by Gabriel act 2 the first time I fought him. The voice crack in "IS THIS WHAT I LOST TO?!?!" is what sealed this as my favorite boss fight. His voice is no longer this over the top "god's light" caricature, he is just this crazed animal who has lost everything and does not care to put up an air of nobility anymore. All of this is to say, this is an amazing audio recreation of this fight that gives the same emotional feeling. Very good. Only complaint is the desync but everyone else has said that already. Late Edit: I was thinking about it and part of what makes the fact that Gabriel has lost everything so powerful is that at this point in the game you have crescendoed. This fight is two beings, one with nothing left to lose and one unable to. It is effectively, the point in which both beings are at a climax. For both v1 and Gabriel it's only downhill from here

I love how the fight starts off with Gabriel enraged. You meet him in Heresy, taking silent introspection on what V1 has done in the previous acts. Going into the fight, he's filled with rage, being faced yet again with the very being he failed to beat in Act 1. As he sustains more injury, though, his anger quickly turns to clarity. He realizes that this fight is no longer for Heaven or Hell, but it's now a battle simply between him and you. Things become clear, he begins to take the fight more personally, and he becomes much faster and more accurate. His mind is cleared, and the room turns to a heavenly chapel reflecting Gabriel's being more than hell. It's such a nice little touch that I feel like got overlooked a lot in this fight. You make a great fucking game, Hakita. Ok I'm editing this because I only just realized something, you also meet Gabriel in Heresy, perfectly fitting of his actions following the fight. You defeat Gabriel again in his purest and most personal state, and having beaten him then, rather than push through on his fate, now that it's lost, the barbarity of hell seeps into him and drives him to become a heretic.

After learning more about the lore of the Lust and Greed layers and gaining a lot of respect for Minos, I developed a lot of hatred for Gabriel So all of the buildup, from his mentions in 5-2 and his hologram in 5-3 to his voice lines in 6-1 hyped me up for when the fight finally happened, and oh man did it deliver When I first entered the level and started hearing the monologue, my mind could only focus on wanting to kill Gabriel, and when I heard his opening voice lines and the beginning of his theme, I just felt bloodlust, which increased with each taunt and even more when the lights turned on... but, it ended when I saw the ending to Act II Then, my hatred for Gabriel faded away. To be replaced by respect

After that he has his monologue, telling you he's about to die and wants a final round with you. And the fight starts "Gabriel, Slayer of Angels" appears on top. By the second phase YOU become enraged having part of your screen covered in red while having a little more damage. At the end you're about to kill Gabriel when Azrael appears to defend him. NOW HE'S THE REAL FINAL BOSS

"Machine, I WILL CUT YOU DOWN, BRAKE YOU APART, SPLAY THE GORE OF YOUR PROFANE FORM ACROSS THE STARS, I WILL GRIND YOU DOWN UNTILL THE VERY SPARKS CRY FOR MERCY. MY HANDS SHALL RELISH ENDING YOU, HERE AND NOW" probably the best boss line I have ever heard and will ever hear.

no one talks about how he starts to ENJOY the combat, his voice lines in his second phase shows... he never has truly met his match. he actually WANTS that feeling of true rivalry... and bloodshed. he at the end of the day, is a violent, blood-soaked weapon, just like you... just with a purpose, that you slowly rip away from him. its so fantastic . hes not the "good guy", hes a being that actually cares, and has feelings of all sorts within that death and destruction. such a perfect rival to our emotionless, robot character .... god this game is so goofy and has such a funny ass fandom but i really do love the characters and potrayal of it is so SO well done...

Every voiceline through the fight is amazing, but the first time I heard "Is this what I lost to?!" as he proceeded to obliterate my ass into oblivion sent chills down my spine. It really feels like, even though you and your kind is what's bringing the apocalypse to Hell, he finds in you what he needed his whole existence: an equal opposite. Someone who he doesn't have to look down in pitty (like the demons in Hell) or up in devotion (like the Council and his Father), but eye to eye. By defeating him, you help him put his feet on the ground for the first time and question if what he's been told for who knows how many centuries was right. Even if for V1 he's just another source to get blood from in it's never-ending hunger, for Gabriel, you are someone who made him grow as a being, and maybe even a friend of some kind.
