they're just trying to reduce headcount without layoffs, its a pretty standard technique for businesses. the reality is if youre a tech company and you dont offer work from home everyone you pick up is at risk of leaving in a few months for a work from home role, especially the skilled roles.

My company lost a ton of people trying to get them in the office. They quickly reversed that decision and had to hire them back at a higher wage. Now they are selling the office buildings and acting like its a good thing NOW as they are saving millions a year on utilities and office building rentals. they change their ways when they have their thumbs up their arses

They know this isn’t going to work. This is about 2 things commercial real estate crisis & companies trying to get people to quit so they don’t have to offer severance packages to their employees. Once that commercial real estate crashes & the fed starts stimulating and printing money again we’re going straight back into remote work & out of the office work when all companies are hiring again. I’m paying attention to the companies that are pulling these sleepy tactics. I view them as toxic & I wouldn’t want to work for those companies knowing during the next down turn they’re going to do the same exact thing.

The implications are simple: the best talent will seek remote work and other companies will have to adjust or settle for whatever they get.... ultimately becoming less competitive. In summary, a savvy company would promote more remote work and flexibility.

Remote work is inevitable. Companies are going to beat their chest and force people back into the office. But people are just stalling until they find remote work. The workers who are going back aren’t planning on staying. They are just putting out resumes. Return to office is banking on a bad job market. But once the job market is healthy is pretty much game over for on site jobs. It’s simply not a striving model anymore. And anyone forcing anyone back into the office are just on the wrong side of the issue
@olafbaeyens8955
@olafbaeyens8955 Год назад
The discussion is never what the workers want, it is only about what the companies wants. Me, me, me, me. If you only care what the company want, you end up with the worst people you can have in your teams. I see giant companies go down in flames, while smaller companies that accept remote work will rise up. It is the end of the area of giant companies.

they may just get their way if they just peddle their influence and release enough hot air out of their holes which are connected to their bloated egos. the mentality of the Jim "class warfare" Cramers of the world is basically: "so you peasants you can demand the pay you lost after 2008, and you think you can get a little more out of life by not having to waste away in traffic or in cities walking around the homeless addicts sleeping on the sidewalks? think again!" they dont want their bank or asset holdings to pocket a hit from the trillion dollar debt bubble they greedily built up over time, in office and apartment buildings. they gotta make sure to socialize those losses among the plebs instead.

Not surprising that the workaholics on CNBC scoff and deride any view that isn’t in the office 6 days a week. Some of us out here are just trying to hold on to a sensible work life balance that offices intend to pull away despite all work interfaces being mostly online with Microsoft O365 and Zoom meetings with the east coast office where your boss works.
@user-hf2dr7sh4y

well, when work is nothing but peddling influence and releasing hot air out of their holes which are connected to their bloated egos, of course you look down at all the peasants who get a little more out of life by not having to waste away in traffic or in cities walking around the homeless addicts sleeping on the sidewalks. they dont want their bank holdings to pocket a hit from the trillion dollar debt bubble they greedily built up over time, in office and apartment buildings. they gotta make sure to socialize those losses among the plebs instead.

@@abbottmdThey do have business with it. Because most enterprises have long term contracts with office space providers so they dont get out of these contracts easy. Investors and other relevant share holders track resources usage, so when a CEO doesn't fully utilizes his offices, his office costs will be written off as losses and that looks bad on paper even when nothing has really changed in terms of productivity of the company. For the CEO and it's managers though, it means a big hit on their sweet bonuses when they can't reach their growth promises.

I love these inane headlines. A company decided to bring people back into the office 40% of the time and that equals the death of remote work. I hope not for Zoom's sake. Remote work is where they made their money. By doing this, Zoom seems to be telling their customers they need Zoom less. Alternative title: "The Death of Zoom? Company that facilitated remote work now orders workers to return to office at least twice a week". Perhaps Zoom is facing headwinds from competition and made this move to reduce staff without announcing they are in trouble. The cat is already out of the bag on their difficulties. We all knew they were in trouble when they started cutting off our free Zoom sessions. Given who they are, a straight layoff may have been wiser as it would not have sent a message counter to the company's business interests (we are in trouble financially and so we are selectively eliminating the kind of workers who use our services).

Anti-Remote Work: "Yes! Yes! More of that Lazy Girl videos! That's a way to pin the remote work argument!" I am a remote worker and I don't watch movies or do other things while doing my job. Maybe I do cook my meals, drive my child to school, or stare the ceiling but those are scheduled so as not to distract me from my work. How do you measure productivity? - Well, set agreed deadlines. If met = productive, else = not productive (though subject to explanations). Can't life be that straightforward? If I'm the employer, if I agreed that my employee deliver x to me on y day, I won't care what that employee does the rest of that day. "I got what I want, talk to you later."

There's a big difference between a salaried employee getting their deliverables, projects, and assignments done in time as one's boss has specified and actual wage theft where work is not being done. A quick quip about "work the wage you want" is all fine and dandy when employers reward hard workers with higher pay instead of only more work. One should live within their means and still conform to the dress code of one's employer, not dress the wage you want. That comes across as flashy.

Zoom stock price down. Not many use Zoom anymore in IT: Slack is better. Even Teams is better. Lack of technical skills at management level to help incompetent narcissistic extroverts stay on top - the only way they can control is to see - all their good people will leave and their company value will forever decline. Zoom isn't Elon Musk and they're not really changing the world anymore.

I feel like if companies required coming to the office couple of days a week, people who always work at the office would have more chances to get good evaluations, and then more people would eventually work at the office so as not be judged in a bad way.
