In the aftermath of a brutal war, former soldier Van toils in a mine controlled by the ruling empire. One day, his solitary existence is upended when a pack of wild dogs carrying a deadly and incurable disease attack, leaving only Van and a young girl named Yuna as survivors. Finally free, the pair seek out a simple existence in the countryside but are pursued by nefarious forces. Intent on protecting Yuna at all costs, Van must uncover the true cause of the plague ravaging the kingdom-and its possible cure.

You can definitely see the co director worked on animation for Princess Mononoke. The disease looks visually very similar to Ashitaka’s curse and the riding animals look like Yakul

Man I really hope this is a continuation of Princess Mononoke after he leaves and continues his life he was banished after all could never return I can imagine how that could become a very lonely life especially with no purpose. At least that’s how I imagine still it would be like.

Ashitaka built a life in Iron Town and spent the rest of his time in the forest with San - the ending was pretty clear that was his intention.

I'm wondering could it be set decades later in the same world? Where the forest spirit, even after his passing, has some sort of trigger to inact this disease/curse that is plauging people again. Thus making them see with eyes unclouded and come together for a better future.

@@scparker6893 It's not made by Studio Ghibi so it obviously isn't a sequel. Miyazaki would never greenlight a sequel to one of his films by a different studio. They just have the same animation director. The Deer King is a completely separate novel series since 2014.

For all of you saying that the little girl is annoying... have you ever seen a very small child have a very strong bond with their parent in such a way that it would seem immeasurable. This child love her adoptive father deeper than what usual kids love their parent. If you think that it is annoying, than it may not be for you because the story clearly revolves around the bond between the father and daughter, and you will be hearing "Dadda" very often.

I watched it in sub yesterday, today I'm going back to watch it again in dub today. This movie was so beautiful that it left me in tears at the end.

HOLY SHIT!!! THIS LOOKS AMAZING!! I was literally brought to tears by the amazing visiuals and the characters, just from this trailer alone. Gosh, I almost don't feel ready to watch this because I know I'll cry super hard LOL But I absolutely need to see this. I just know it's gonna be breath taking.

This film was brilliant. Totally blew my expectations away. I had a gut feeling it was going to be good. But this film is utterly brilliant. Already thinking of when I will watch it again. After watching it, did some research on the film. It’s based on a book, which is suppose to be quite lengthy. So I hope there might be a deer king part two, fingers crossed. Love this film, so happy I own the bluray and recommend anyone to watch it. Fantastic film. ❤ Tom

Ghe rides a deer like creature, simular to Jakul from Ashitaka, And when he stopped the Boar with his Arm, the glowing Marks, reminded me instanly to Ashitaka too... For a Moment i thought he IS a grown up Ashitaka and this is a sequell to Mononoke XD

Just saw this movie and it was awsometacular. If your looking for your regular battle Japanime this is definitely not any where near. Instead this movie hits you in the feels real hard. Having a daughter with an Asian myself and watching what this guy goes through for his daughter had me almost in tears by the end. Very emotionally heavy movie and Im gunna buy this 1 on DVD.

It did suffer from precisely this. But I personally still enjoyed the movie. Where I saw it there was only English subtitles without a dub so you could imagine how it went.

It's like a cross between Princess Mononoke & Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit. I was even slightly hoping that at 01:23, that the woman on the horse would be Balsa.
